Please keep in mind Amazon have sometimes have these RSD releases at normal retail at a later date.

A newly adapted version of Record Store Day will return on Saturday 29th August in what will be the first of three “Drops” that celebrates independent record stores.

Superstar artists from the likes of Pink Floyd, The Cure and The Kinks to Christine and the Queens, J Hus and The Big Moon are scheduled to take part with limited-edition releases. The Weeknd and Working Men’s Club have also come on board in a bid to support the UK’s record retailers.

The annual celebration known for its in-store parties, live performances and very limited vinyl releases was originally scheduled to take place on 18th April. However, like many music events, organisers were forced to call off the party in light of the COVID-19 pandemic.

However, Record Store Day has since gone back to the drawing board and created a series of “RSD Drops” to accommodate the new social distancing guidelines.

Whilst the live music and in-store parties will remain off the cards, the list of limited-edition releases will be made available from participating shops on one of the 3 Drop Dates: 29th August, 26th September and 24th October.

For Record Store Day 2020, Demon Records presents a narrated full-cast TV soundtrack of the legendary historical adventure, The Massacre of Bartholomew’s Eve. Limited to: 2000 copies.

The Massacre is the lost fourth serial of the third season of Doctor Who, which starred William Hartnell as the First Doctor in BBC series Doctor Who. In this 4-part serial, first shown on BBC TV in February 1966, the TARDIS materialises in Paris in 1572, a time of great danger and religious strife. The Catholic Queen Mother, Catherine de Medici, is hatching a plot to kill all French Protestants, and the Doctor and Steven are quickly caught up in events. While Steven is befriended by a group of Protestants, the Doctor has a perfect double in the shape of the hated dignitary, the Abbot of Amboise. One of them is about to lose his life!

Presented across 2 x heavyweight 180g pieces of vinyl, in a striking ‘Parisian Blaze’ splatter, this narrated TV soundtrack evokes a classic Doctor Who adventure in all its aural magnificence. The vivid sounds of 16th Century Paris in turmoil, and the encroaching terror of the massacre, are all accompanied by the eerie sonics of composer’s Ron Grainer & Delia Derbyshire’s theme tune.

Written by John Lucarotti, this dramatic story now survives only as a sound recording. Linking narration is provided by Peter Purves (Steven) and the cast includes Eric Thompson as Gaston, André Morell as Tavannes, Leonard Sachs as de Coligny and Annette Robinson as Anne.

The coloured vinyl LPs are presented in a gatefold sleeve with illustrated inner bags and full episode billings, cast and credits.

The LP series is an expensive set to collect but they are gorgeous. I managed to get a copy of this for not much more than store price incl postage. Very happy

Just received mine today from Assai records, quick delivery and well packed.
Records are mainly clear with just a few splashes of orange, totally different from promotion pictures.
Wonder if they vary greatly from set to set?

I’ve noticed someone on eBay selling these as extremely rare with only 500 made.
Yet above it says 2000 copies.
    Somebody must be right.

All my friends, got The Massacre LP and few other things, by pre-booking slots, with the stores,or ordering online at respectable prices.

It’s so odd, as each year RSD generates so much chatter usually. Does everyone think it’s a success this way. Or much better the Queue up and rummage way.
I even got Christine and the queens Double 7” for the store price online. It just feels odd with so little chatter

The usual way will be much better for stores to generate interest. But due to covid there’s no option now.

Well, heres a surprise. I put my name down with three record stores, who may or may not be getting this release.

1 on thursday(after three weeks) said now stores were open again, There would be no online sales.

1, said we will let you know on Monday if we have any left.

and 1, contacted me Thursday 10pm, and sold me a copy, in the post, to arrive Saturday.

I certainly did not see that coming. Fabulous news. Chesk out your local Stores online/Phone. Everyone is aware that Covid is A viable thing, so exceptions can be made.

Shops can be thrown off the RSD list for selling stuff early, so probably best to keep that quiet.

will this be postponed further or will they make it available online for order instead (ik this defeats the point of RSD but ya know…)

They have postponed it and staggered the releases. So there are 3 Record Store Days now…late August, late September and late October (to avoid excessive queuing). They also say that some stores will be selling stock online from 6pm on each day. Amazon also normally gets some stock about a month after.

You can generally.pick them up on Amazon after RSD, but there’s a couple of weeks until they are available

Most likely postponed again. Non essential shops will be allowed.to.open, but social distancing will have to be adhered to.and have you SEEN the queues at RSD!??? Lol

I think June is a better time of year anyway. Much as nearly all recent Dr Who records are lovely, standing in the cold for 1-2 hours is no fun.

Record Store Day has always been at this time of year, it’s nothing to do with the other recent Doctor Who records.

A few of the last 2 years releases (City Of Death, Tomb Of The Cybermen) are still available on Amazon with prices from £26.

The shop can sell them for whatever they want. If you are queuing for 2 hours, price is hardly an issue. Also, it is a huge burden on small record shops to buy over 100 titles some of which no one will ever buy. The popular ones are gone by the first 20 people in the queue. The really popular ones by the first 5 people some who have queued from 4pm the day before.

I think last year for RSD both Destiny of The Daleks and Galaxy 4 were £39.99 each so would expect a similar price for another 2 LP set . RSD is I believe 18th April.

I don’t buy these but if you haven’t heard this one it’s good. Being an historical story and a 60’s story there’s a lot of talking and that translates well to the pure audio format that is all we have left of the massacre.

Great to have another 1st Doctor RSD release following on from last years Galaxy 4. Stunning artwork and colours. I hope there’s more Hartnell releases on the horizon- maybe Myth Makers or Marco Polo.

The Demon Music Group, seem to have captured the Cover and Art design on these, so well. Even dare I say it, up there with Some of the Target Covers.

Beautifully Made , Vinyl records with such brilliant colours and designs too.

The thing with growing up watching new who is that you know certain characters like the doctor can’t die or such things like that. When I watched the ending of episode 1, via recons, even I was shocked at “the Doctor turning evil”.

Such a great cliffhanger, for new who and classic who fans alike. Really shocked me and goes down as one of my favourite cliffhangers of all Doctor Who! 😀
