Robert Harrop Troll Doll – Terror of the Autons

Available to order while stocks last from www.robertharrop.com

From ‘Terror of the Autons’

“Oh, it’s a horrible looking thing. There’s something evil about it.”

The Master arrives on Earth and steals the sole surviving Nestene energy unit from the National Space Museum, which was left over from the failed Nestene invasion documented in ‘Spearhead from Space’ (1970). The Nestene Conciousness is a disembodied life force, a hive mind race and a singular entity existing as energy with the ability to possess plastic.

The Master then hijacks the Beacon Hill radio telescope, which he uses as a bridgehead to channel energy from the Nestene Consciousness in space into the surviving unit. He then takes over Farrel Autoplastics, a nearby plastics factory, to build a force of Autons, plastic mannequins animated by the Nestene Consciousness, to use as soldiers for a second invasion of Earth.

Reports of the theft and hijack bring the Doctor, his assistant Jo Grant and Brigadier Lethbridge-Stewart to investigate.

Yes Zygon, I said the same thing on Friends of Harrop.
Although the Troll Doll does look small in the Harrops photos it still comes as a bit of a surprise.

Well its arrived. I got number 64. I,m appalled, i,ve a good mind to send it back, the cheek of it. Joking aside though. He is quite tiny and i,m glad i managed to get one, although Ive picked things out of my nose bigger.

Yes, he’s a lovely little fella Ergon. Very small, as in keeping but really lovely.
I got number 20 having purchased at pretty much the same time that you and Coleman indicated you had so whether numbering is a random thing or not I don’t know.
Like you, I preferred the night time releases but just as many people prob prefer the morning releases of late.

I see he’s already on ebay too.

      February 11th, 2022 - 3:55pm

Its pretty random Morrid 12 but you do seem to get the lower numbers i,ve noticed the earlier you get it in. For the carnival Auton and beyond it seems well all be keeping check on the clock earlier and earlier still until we all crash the site with our simultaneous orders. Haha. I still prefer the midnight ordering.

Hello ergon, sorry for the late reply, I kept expecting you to reply on your “Collections” or “Ask A Question”. I’ve only just checked this page.
Glad he’s Finally here, and he’s not a bad number at all.

    • Coleman

      February 11th, 2022 - 9:34pm

Yes MORRID12, I think the numbers you get are totally random.
I was reading a comment awhile back on “Friends of Harrop” and a guy commented that he didn’t order the Troll Doll until about 12.30 on the day of release because he was working, yet he ended up with a number under 20.

    • the ergon

      February 11th, 2022 - 9:40pm

The numbers fine as long as the figurine in pristine condition thats the main thing. I was about 3 minutes behind you when ordering coleman. We might get the slightly bigger version with The Master in 2023 when it finally arrives.

    • Coleman

      February 11th, 2022 - 10:41pm

I havnt ordered the Big Chief, Master or Captain Jack at the moment ergon.
I’m hoping to get them both one day, but not at the moment.
I envy you though that Troll Doll looks great.
I’ve Got Tom, Colin, K9 and Two Daleks on pre -order at the moment, so I’m having to pace myself.

    • The ergon

      February 12th, 2022 - 2:46pm

Thats more than enough coleman. Still some payments off paying for those 4 doctors and that rusty k9. Missed the season 18 tom but found another source to get that on preorder. Still hoping the zavvi stuff come back in stock. I was a fool not to preorder that season 12 version before i ordered the newer stuff. I wont bother with jack or the daleks. Might be tempted by the cyberman you mentioned before.

    • Coleman

      February 12th, 2022 - 3:20pm

Yes, the Cyberman is a definite for me also, it should be the EarthShock Version.
Where did you order Tom From ergon, if you don’t mind me asking?

Just got mine today, impressed with the detail and certainly fooled by the box it came in. Got 204.

    • the ergon

      February 14th, 2022 - 3:11pm

What time did you order yours Prototype Dalek if you dont mind me asking? These are supposedly Random but i preordered mine 5 minutes to 8AM and got number 64 but apparently someone ordered much later and got below 20, funny that.

    • the ergon

      February 14th, 2022 - 3:13pm

To answer your question Coleman. I ordered from Statuesque. They had K-9, sixie and 4th from season 18.

      February 14th, 2022 - 4:38pm

Ah, another site I havnt heard of ergon.

Yes, just checked again ergon. It was John Sissons on “Friends of Harrop”. He ended up with number 14. But he ordered at 12.30 pm due to working.

I know this is abit “out there” but I wish Harrops would make the Vespiform. I don’t think we get enough Vespiform merchandise if I’m honest.
I realise the legs would have to be Pewter (so won’t be fragile), but I’m sure Mike would make a good job of him.

Don’t generally collect Nu Who stuff but for some reason someone was once selling the completed vespiform and I liked it and bought it without having to buy all the duplicate figures the pieces came with. My second favourite nu -who piece. As for the story I’m afraid I find it ludicrous I dont think much of sci fi stories where totally incompatable non humanoid life forms find female humans attractive and worthy of bearing children.

    • Coleman

      January 30th, 2022 - 11:15am

Yeah, theirs just something really nice about that Vespiform in Figure form. If Harrops never make one I hope CO re_releases their version in the B&M sets. Could be the perfect time this year now they’ve already made the K1 Set in the Budget line. (Fingers Crossed).
I never had all the Build a Figure parts as I bought all that wave when it 1st came out without the parts included.

  • Joe 90

    January 28th, 2022 - 3:21pm

Sold out in less than 7 hours must be a record !

It would be nice if Harrop could adopt a similar style to Weta where they have a 2 week pre-order window and the edition size becomes the amount of orders recieved in that time which gives everyone a chance to place an order without missing out.

I struggled to place an order this morning probably due to the amount of internet traffic on the site.

I believe Omega Sold out in about half that time Joe 90. I remember reading about all the complaints from people who missed out. Any original monster/alien piece always goes quickly. I don,t reckon the Carnival Auton will be around long either when it goes up at the end of March.

    • Coleman

      January 28th, 2022 - 4:00pm

I missed out on getting Omega from Harrops, ergon and Joe 90. Had as to resort to Evilbay.

    • Joe 90

      January 28th, 2022 - 4:07pm

Good point Ergon…..forgot about the Omega sell out.

I’m hoping that Harrop increase the edition size for the Terror Auton as that will probably fly off the shelf quicker than the Troll Doll.

Be interesting Coleman to see how many Troll Dolls end up on Evilbay!

    • Coleman

      January 28th, 2022 - 4:41pm

A few I should imagine Joe 90. Theirs always a steady supply of figurines on there. I go on now and again just to look at the Prices of the Pewter variants.

Ive got a feeling the little ratbag is going to sit on my shelf and stare at me, he terrorised me when i was 11 and something stopped me buying a full size one someone was selling on ebay. He really is a nasty little beggar even all these years on.

Would be great if Harrop’s did a Stigorax.

    • Popplewick

If I recall correctly Big Chiefs Master comes with the doll too .Eventually.

    • Coleman

      January 28th, 2022 - 3:51pm

Yes it does Popplewick. If the Scales correct the Big Chief one will be larger than Harrops Troll Doll.
Harrops are 8 inch While the Big Chiefs scale is 12 inch (1: 6).

    • Coleman

      January 28th, 2022 - 4:52pm

You forgot the Stigorax ergon. Harrops would probably make it on its own rather than with Sheila E. Just like the Troll Doll without the Master.

    • Coleman

      January 28th, 2022 - 4:56pm

Sorry, meant “Helen A”. I think I was having a ,’Prince’ flash back there.

    • the ergon

      January 29th, 2022 - 11:10am

Yeah completely went blank about Fifi, shouldn,t he be kept in his cage or sent to run rampant after the pipe people . Theres also the pool cleaner though that might look odd out of water. Well we,ve had those cybermats, so there are a few ideas there for Harrops to chew on.

    • the ergon

      January 29th, 2022 - 11:21am

Its funny. No one seems to mention the pink fluorescant pair of eyes that is Kroagnon before it possesses the Chief Caretaker or those cannibalistic ressies Tabby and Tilda who terrorised and were also very hungry for a very skinny Mel.

    • Coleman

      January 29th, 2022 - 11:36am

I love Paradise Towers, must admit it’s abit of a Favourite of mine even though it gets a lot of flack. Theirs Too much in it not to enjoy. The Rapour of Sylvester and Bonnie the Superb Cleaners, Richard Briers doing his best Adolf Hitler impersonation and of course the two old lady Cannibals, also plenty of tongue in cheek action. The Pool Cleaner would be good ergon as a figurine, even out of Water.

    • the ergon

      January 29th, 2022 - 12:48pm

Except of course pointless Pex and that excruciating Kang street slang. Rather than make them three dimensional and believable most of the characters seemed to have jumped straight from a comic book. Far from the JG Ballard book ‘High Rise’ from which it was based. Perhaps too many good ideas but quite a few badly executed on screen.

    • the ergon

      January 29th, 2022 - 8:06pm

The cleaner robots should have posed more of a threat instead of just chasing people down corridors and the scene with its upward inarticulate claw managing to somehow throttle the doctor always makes me smirk. It is fun in places but just a guilty pleasure.

    • Coleman

      January 29th, 2022 - 8:41pm

The thing that always striked me about Paradise Towers and having these “Cleaners,” was why didn’t anyone get suspicious about them, when Instead of Buckets, Mops, Cleaning fluid etc all the Cleaners had were Drills, Circular Saws and Grabbing claws?

    • The ergon

      January 29th, 2022 - 10:27pm

Ha,ha. They were a bit conspicuous and impractical as ‘cleaners’ All that and a touch of corpse collection and disposing on the side.

    • Popplewick

      January 29th, 2022 - 10:54pm

It must have been desperate times as my self and a friend descending to debating which of the Kangs was the ‘hottest’ If I recall he liked the one who – I believe – was or is Mrs Mark Strickson while I liked the one with the long ‘bubbly red hair. But not an auspicious story. Poor Clive Merrison from ‘Tombs…’ to that. At the time I couldnt believe what i was seeing.

      January 28th, 2022 - 11:25am

Oh ive just thought of one, The Keller Machine. An almost instant sellout.

    • Coleman

      January 28th, 2022 - 11:32am

I was going to say the Keller Machine along with a Quark, Servo Robot and Sil on his Tank. Maybe even Banakaffalatta or Skovox Blitzer, but they seem to have stopped doing Nu Who.

    • Coleman

      January 28th, 2022 - 11:37am

Hey I’ve thought of of good one but it’s Nu Who Again. The little decrepid Ancient Tenth Doctor.
CO did him in a double pack if you remember?

    • the ergon

      January 28th, 2022 - 11:38am

I think a quark or servo might be slightly less than regular price coleman. I just cant think offhand apart from a Wolfweed and i cant see fans slavering over one of those so much.

    • the ergon

      January 28th, 2022 - 11:46am

Maybe the Horda from The Face of Evil.

    • Coleman

      January 28th, 2022 - 12:15pm

Most of the ones I keep thinking of are from Nu Who unfortunately, I don’t think Harrops will make them. Just been thinking of the Small Metal spiders (maybe hatching from an egg) in one of the 9th Doctor episodes were there watching the Earth die from a Space platform.
(Can’t think of the name of episode without looking it up)

Ayyyy, Popplewick how’s about this for a recommendation. Since Harrops occasionally make figurines in sets of three or four like the Cybermen and now the Autons.
How about a Quark, Dominator and Jamie?
