Night of the Whisper (Destiny of the Doctor 9)

destiny-9Night of the Whisper (Destiny of the Doctor 9)

New Vegas, 23rd Century – a sprawling city huddling beneath an artificial atmospheric bubble on a distant moon. Pleasure seekers flock there from every corner of the galaxy, to take in the shows and play the tables in the huge casinos. But beneath the glitz and the glitter, organised crime rules the streets.

Whilst Rose Tyler works as a waitress in the Full Moon nightclub, Jack Harkness poses as a reporter for the Daily Galax. Meanwhile, the Doctor is helping the police department with their investigation into The Whisper, a strange vigilante that has been terrorising the city’s underworld. But the Doctor is also on a mission of his own – to save Police Chief McBain’s life at all costs.

Like the noir/crime riff. Would have loved to actually see this made into a proper TV episode. The 9th Doctor would look good in noir styled stories with his black jacket.

I was expecting the cover to have Rose and Jack on, like the other covers which had The Doctor and the Companion included in the story

Is Rose in this one? And when is it set?

Yes, it says Rose will be posing as a waitress. Captain Jack is also in it which suggests it takes place between the events of The Doctor Dances and Bad Wolf.

I find this release really odd. Christopher Eccleston is the hardest of the living Doctors to get hold of, but his companions are some of the easiest actors… BARROWMAN would jump at the chance surely!?

I think it ruins the range every so slightly, being the only one without a companion reader. They’ve not even bothered to put a companion on the front cover, despite Rose and Jack being in the audio!

Yeah, it is disappointing. I would have loved to hear Billie or John reading this story. It really is the odd-one-out, since Catherine Tate and Jenna Coleman will be taking part in the final two.

The first three are very good and faithful to their eras, but I’m gonna wait for the complete box set to come out after they’ve all been released and get that.

Looks great, pity Billie didn’t read it though, Tate is reading 10’s.

Also, wasn’t ‘New Vegas’ mentioned at the recent DW Proms?!
