New 3.75″ Figures and playsets in 2013 – Poll
New 3.75″ Scale Action Figures and playsets in 2013
In a recent interview for www.toysnplaythings.co.uk, Character along with several other companies have talked about their future plans for Doctor Who Products.
You can read all the interviews and stories via www.toysnplaythings.co.uk magazine or click on the image below.
One quote however appears to give us some major news on new figures and sets…
What exciting new products will you have coming out in future?
“Our product range will be diverse and innovative, in addition to the figures and playsets that have been released, Autumn 2012 will see the first Doctor Who App-related toy in which you connect your smartphone to a physical device enabling kids to digitally battle Daleks, Cybermen and Angels as they appear in their actual location on screen via augmented reality. We have huge expectations from an exciting new toy range for 2013 with new scale action figures, playsets and role play toys. Construction will continue to grow with the introduction of Series three micro-figures and all new playsets based on the upcoming episodes.”
The current 5 inch figure range
- The Classic series figure range will stay the same scale, 5 inches.
- No more new series figures will be made in the 5 inch range.
- Rory was the final new series figure to be made for the 5 inch scale range, although there may be re-releases (Like the B&M Dalek and Cybermen sets).
The new 3.75 inch figure range
- The new scale range will be 3.75 inches which is industry standard. This means the toys will be more compatible with other ranges.
- There are no plans to release already existing figures in the new scale range. (Excluding Daleks and Weeping angels seen in series 7)
- Photos of the range will not be released until next year.
- There is a possibility stands if costs allow but priority will be given to the figures.
- There will be a range of four playsets.
Above is what we know so far thanks to Alasdair Dewar.

October 15th, 2012 - 8:45pmSo there’s no new series 5″ figures? There only doing classics? If this is true, the new ones won’t sell AT ALL! I and many other people won’t be buying them! I can’t belive it… I’m totally shocked about it! 👿
Kiebo03
October 15th, 2012 - 8:57pmThey still have to bring a few more out before they start the new line AT LEAST! They don’t think about us people who collect nearly every figure released! It’s just not fair! Well Character Options go and check your inbox BECAUSE THERE MAY BE A FEW NASTY COMPLAINTS!
Anonymous
October 15th, 2012 - 9:00pmYou’ll probablly find that’s why there’s been no figures this year, to put the 5” figues out of the minds of many young children who don’t pay that much attention.
At least the classics will remain and hopefully they will change their stance on no 21st century figures (they certainly sound a bit shaky on the ban on the RTD era).
Kiebo03
October 15th, 2012 - 9:05pmAgreed, Im still going to get the classics but I mostly collect the new series! You should see my collection of 5″ figures. Over 200 at least and my collection stops there! Just think of the figures we could of had!
timelord22
October 15th, 2012 - 8:39pmi don’t like this at all. character have lost a customer 🙁 goodbye, dr who figures. will we get series 7 part 1 5 inch figures?
BOOBOO JR
October 15th, 2012 - 8:42pmI’m afraid we won’t, Rory was the last ever New Series Figure of the 5″ Range 🙁
timelord22
October 15th, 2012 - 8:57pmThis has ruined my life 🙁
George Dolley
October 16th, 2012 - 1:11amDon’t forget the classic figures will still be made in 5 inch, it’s just new-Who that’s got this problem. Hopefully the first wave of 3.75 inch figures will absolutely bomb, CO will apologise, and things will get back to how they were.
Then again, maybe they’ll decide to give up on making Who toys and sell the license to someone that will decide to make a better 5″ range than CO did.
THEBIGBLUEBOX
October 16th, 2012 - 6:53amwhy would they do this cause im pretty sure they will loose money then save it cause of all the fans who wouldnt want to by them anymore. 🙁

October 15th, 2012 - 7:58pmI think this news has made most of us glum to say the least, but the 5 inch line has been slowly heading towards its grave since 2009 and i would rather see this 3.75 inch action figure range than hear that classic quote “You Get Nothing, You Lose, Good day Sirs”
Esterath
October 15th, 2012 - 9:05pmWilly Wonka and the Chocolate FActory! Ahh, such a good movie. Way better the Johnny Depp one. Uch.
Dtron Wunder
October 15th, 2012 - 7:56pmneed too see them first before opinion , does this mean there dropping the 5 inch versions ?!
booboo
October 15th, 2012 - 7:57pmclassics are staying the same and there could still be re-releases, presumably like the b&m sets
Dtron Wunder
October 15th, 2012 - 8:29pmoh well i will probably get the 3’75 inch ones and keep them in the box
duckter who
October 15th, 2012 - 7:48pmVERY ANNOYED WITH DR WHO NOW! Cancelling confidential, delaying character building by a year, getting us all exited about the release of somthing but it turns out its that Sh**y 10″ beard dr and now SHRINKING FIGURES?!?!(OH AND HALFING SERIES 6 AND 7
Mr Evil Fez
October 15th, 2012 - 7:55pmI agree! 👿
McGann is the Doctor
October 15th, 2012 - 7:56pmAll valid points, except halfing series 6 and 7, they only split them.
But it’s not Doctor Who you should be angry at.
It’s the treatment of the show/it’s merchandise.
Things are not shaping up good.
duckter who
October 15th, 2012 - 7:59pmi ment splitting it :)i agree with you though mcann is the doctor

October 15th, 2012 - 7:37pmbooboo when will we find out the winner for the rory figure
ironside 247
October 15th, 2012 - 7:34pmbooboo, will the classics be in this scale?
Nicholas
October 15th, 2012 - 7:36pmno
ironside 247
October 15th, 2012 - 7:38pmphew! we still need loads of classics!
booboo
October 15th, 2012 - 7:54pmno, they are still 5″
the astronaut of death
October 15th, 2012 - 7:31pmi wonder what pleysets we will see
the astronaut of death
October 15th, 2012 - 7:27pmas much i am dissopointed in character changing the scale of the figures i am still going to buy them
booboo i have a few questions
1. booboo when the figures come out will it be a reboot of the waves
2. when in 2013 will we see them
3. what playsets do you think we will see
booboo
October 15th, 2012 - 7:29pmthe only think i know is that they will be launched arround when series 7b starts
doctorpond393
October 15th, 2012 - 7:26pmreally though get a ruler and mesure 3.75″ It’s very small compared o the ones we have now. I sent a very angry email to character asking if they would carry on the 5″ range because i like buying the odd action figure if its good. But I will noy buy these as they will not fit with my big collection of 5″s. Bad idea if you ask me. They should have just produced smaller waves. Very annoyed! 👿
Nicholas
October 15th, 2012 - 7:31pmI just compared it the 11th doctor figure, and it is just over half the size of
his figure
dra
October 15th, 2012 - 8:52pmwhy dont they keep the 5″ running and insted of replacing them make the 3.75″ seperate so we get to keep the 5″ and get a new load of figures that are smaller
Dalekcaan1963
October 16th, 2012 - 12:09amApparently they’re changing to just 3.75″ because
1) It’ll be cheaper and more affordable to kids (despite the fact that figures of those ranges cost about £8 anyway, no big change).
2) The 5″ range hasn’t been selling too well. Can’t say it’s surprising when all they’ve been making are Dalek repaints recently. They finally make something new with Sutekh, Brigadier, Omega monster thing ect that would surely boost sales, and they make a decision like this.
dra
October 16th, 2012 - 3:56pmmaybe they could make the prices of the 5″ figures something like £7.99 then they will get more people buying them and the sets to cheaper prices and talking daleks to £10
booboo
October 16th, 2012 - 3:59pmlook for offers, remember the talking Daleks had existing moulds that have been used over and over (and again in the future) hence the price.
Justjeulin
October 16th, 2012 - 9:45pmI put a star wars figure next to my Doctor. Now for Figure Adventures how can I do The Doctor and Jenna meet Davros? Jenna gets attacked with a faulty TCE? Well actually…..
The TARDIS
October 15th, 2012 - 6:46pmI don’t see how shrinking the figures by 1 and a quarter inches is going to boost sales. And why didn’t character consider the 5″ line viable anymore?
booboo
October 15th, 2012 - 6:50pmBig retailers see this as a toy line that had become static and obviously stopped ordering , retailers did not want the classics either, if not for UT they would not exist either
The Monitor
October 15th, 2012 - 7:24pmOne issue is the distribution of figures retailers experienced. In a box of 12, there might be only one sought after figure, padded out with 11 slow-moving ones.
I have heard for some time that 5in figures are dead; some were just too mass produced like Lazlo and the Vampire, others like Cyberman with gun were very difficult to get. There are huge surpluses of figures out there sadly, but then, there was with Tennant era figures too. Post Woolworths, saw the largest of vans had hundreds of figures but only 3 variants-£1ea & not selling ?!?
dalek eternal
October 15th, 2012 - 6:41pmbooboo can u do a poll to see who will stop buying the figures if the scale is changed as i think i will im not spending my money on another scale collection when i already have a good collection that i was proud of and would rather more releases in 5 inch than a new scale i wll only be buying classics if their 5 inch
booboo
October 15th, 2012 - 6:52pmno good doing a poll for something no one has seen yet, when we get the first images of the range everyone might be ecstatic for all we know
BOOBOO JR
October 15th, 2012 - 6:53pmTrue, I suppose we ought to wait and give these new figures a chance.
Dalekcaan1963
October 16th, 2012 - 12:13amIf we wait for a poll, it’ll be too late. If we make a poll and show how many people are going to boycott it, CO might change their minds (or at least make a 5″ range as well as the 3.75 one). It doesn’t matter how stunning these new sets look, the size alone is enough to stop many people collecting, and a poll would be good to see that. I wanted to vote on the current one, but “I’m not sure” doesn’t sum up my dislike of this decision.
itdalek
October 15th, 2012 - 6:33pmbooboo can you a poll on what people think about this decision like no way or yes or i want 5 inch to continue
Anonymous
October 15th, 2012 - 6:18pmIt’s UT I feel most sorry for, a while ago they mentioned they were hoping to expand their exclusives into the new series and now CO have taken that part of the licence off them.
itdalek
October 15th, 2012 - 6:22pmwhat? i think underground toys will be complaining as well as the collectors!
itdalek
October 15th, 2012 - 6:11pmi think character options have had a mistake big anougth for then no longer be able to make figure because no one will buy them and most true collectors will compain plus they will end in a right old mess and going to that size figures is bad any way as many get discountied, by next year they have to go back to 5 inch or they will end up like dapol
jaketorwho
October 15th, 2012 - 6:10pmI can see only one good thing coming from this, character can redeem themselves with the TARDIS playset, and actually make it look like the set, and with lights and sounds, and less cars and an opening door!
Dalek Prime Minister
October 15th, 2012 - 6:09pmWhen it says a new scale of figures, where does it say how big they are and that they are actually replacing the current ones?
booboo
October 15th, 2012 - 6:13pmits been confirmed its 3.75″
Dalek Prime Minister
October 15th, 2012 - 6:16pmOh ok, what does it mean playsets, like the CB but for the figures?
Dalek Prime Minister
October 15th, 2012 - 6:33pmwhen do you think the first pictures will be out of them? and when is the toy fair?
David
October 15th, 2012 - 5:54pmEnd of New Series 5” figures,ok. But think one second about it? Guess whose fault is it? Theirs, not ours, cause Series 5 was ok but Series 6: missing crucially appealing figures, lots of 11th Doctor variants, that horrible white glue everywhere…Guess why they are not selling.
The Driver
October 15th, 2012 - 5:55pmthis “glue” you mentioned, do you mean the flesh goo? and also, why do you think they are not selling?
David
October 15th, 2012 - 6:00pmThe goo thing, yes. Well, i can’t see any other reason. I mean, how many for buyers would have been if instead of 11th Doctor with blue shirt they released an Hanbot, or the Minotaur? They have just been too conservative and not used the potential of the line, simply bad management, its quite obvious. It’s like in a restaurant: at the end of 3 months, if the Aubergine stuffed with Haggid 13.95 pound don’t sell, what does the chef do?Change the menu. Chef’s fault though
THE ERGON
October 15th, 2012 - 8:14pmWe wanted handbots, minotaurs, girl vampires etc.. Instead, what did character give us?- A load of inconsequential figures like the editor, hawthorne, laszlo etc.. Which wouldn,t have been so bad,but they couldn,t release figures to compliment them with,E.G- Tallulah, the fish vampires..the list goes on.CO shouldn,t have took the contract to start with if they couldn,t see it through.
Justjeulin
October 16th, 2012 - 9:44pmTotally agree, CO just have blind faith that we;ll buy their every figure, and that caused them to make those rubbish figures( Except Idris, I liked her). And CO still have that blind faith in us with this new scale
McGann is the Doctor
October 15th, 2012 - 5:50pmBeen thinking about this for a while.
Conclusion: Gutted I will never get a 5″ Doctor in his Longcoat and otehr figures I hoped to see.
I know the retailers weren’t getting the 5″ ones in, but I wonder why not ?! ❓
The Driver
October 15th, 2012 - 5:52pmTheres always Ebay!
The Driver
October 15th, 2012 - 5:44pmThese are some bold plans!
Boodleoo
October 15th, 2012 - 5:41pmDon’t know if I’m happy or sad it’s really weird.
The Driver
October 15th, 2012 - 5:44pmIm quite sad there will be no more 5″ (except for classics)
dr who 1999
October 15th, 2012 - 5:40pmwait, what about daleks, will they remain 5″ or will they change?
Dalekcaan1963
October 16th, 2012 - 12:16amSame rule applies until stated otherwise (it won’t be, the Daleks will need to be the same range if they think it’ll fix sales, kids will want a scale Dalek to their other toys, specially as they’ll be the best sellers); Classic Daleks 5″, new-Who Daleks 3.75″.
It sucks.
Dalek Prime Minister
October 15th, 2012 - 5:40pmSurely if they are smaller they won’t be as possible and detailed? Why have they done this, I don’t get it? And why are classic staying 5″?
Dalek Prime Minister
October 15th, 2012 - 5:48pmI mean they won’t look right next to the bigger ones, and how will this make more people buy figures? They won’t have as much detail on them , will they and why is it only new who figures changing?
They should be about £6.99, but I suppose they aren’t that smaller, only about an inch!
The Driver
October 15th, 2012 - 5:48pmTheyll never go with it, its just one of those rumours that Character make to make you feel tense; at least thats what I think
booboo
October 15th, 2012 - 5:49pmits no rumour, its happening
The Driver
October 15th, 2012 - 5:51pmOh right. it will be interesting to see pictures of these new figures at the toy fair when they are put on this site.
Dalek Prime Minister
October 15th, 2012 - 5:52pmHow much do you think they will be booboo? And do you think they will be less detailed? And finally do you think more people will buy them and why?
booboo
October 15th, 2012 - 5:55pm£6.99, dont know about the detail but yes they will sell and maybe to a wider market because of the additional play-sets etc that are not possible with the 5″ range
The Driver
October 15th, 2012 - 5:52pm£6.00-£7.00?
Dalek Prime Minister
October 15th, 2012 - 6:00pmPlaysets like what? Like scenes like CB have, not just things like the tardis? So we could have things like the control room for the spaceship of DOAS? (I couldn’t think of a better example)
Dalek Prime Minister
October 15th, 2012 - 6:11pmI know I have commented a lot, but is this what you mean?
The Driver
October 15th, 2012 - 5:37pmBooboo, does this mean that there will be no more 5″ figures?
booboo
October 15th, 2012 - 5:39pmno, the classics will continue in 5″ and there might be some re-releases (like b&m sets i assume)
The Driver
October 15th, 2012 - 5:43pmSo no more 5″ figures for the latest Doctor Who? I mean for instance, the figure of the Gunslinger won’t be 5″?
booboo
October 15th, 2012 - 5:44pmthats right
The Driver
October 15th, 2012 - 5:45pmShame, it wont look good with my collection and it will feel quite odd.
The Driver
October 15th, 2012 - 5:46pmIm going to miss 5″
dr who 1999
October 15th, 2012 - 5:36pmso that means that the Rory figure will be the last new series figure? 😯
booboo
October 15th, 2012 - 5:37pmin 5″ yes
dr who 1999
October 15th, 2012 - 5:39pmnoooo!!!!!! well, you never know, the new ones might be good

October 15th, 2012 - 5:34pmso new series figures will be dapol Scale.
duckter who
October 15th, 2012 - 5:31pmso becuse 5″ are just classics, could that mean we could get an abzorbaloff?
booboo
October 15th, 2012 - 5:35pmyes, actually no, its been clarified
Boodleoo
October 15th, 2012 - 5:40pmAl Dewair or what ever said on twitter they are not counting 9th and 10th doctors yet as classics.
booboo
October 15th, 2012 - 5:42pmyes, he’s made it clearer now
That Cherub over there
October 15th, 2012 - 5:30pmI’m not surprised. I was already losing interest anyway. Might get some of the Classic figures (I’ve been after those for a while and I want at least one or two in my not-very-big collection ;)), but I’m not sure what to make of these new 3.75″ figures. Guess we’ll have to wait and see…
Thank goodness we still have the good old books, magazines etc. 😉
Esterath
October 15th, 2012 - 7:18pmYeah, can’t go wrong with books! BTW, I’m on holiday, and I found an antiques shop and I got the Dr Who Annual 1977, Death to the Daleks Target and the Making of Doctor Who all for £10! PLus the woman at the store had like 30 different Target novels!
BOOBOO JR
October 15th, 2012 - 5:26pmDoes anyone know what the average price for this size of figures is?
Boodleoo
October 15th, 2012 - 5:38pmSometimes it’s £10 but I bet these will be cheaper
