New 3.75″ Figures and playsets in 2013 – Poll

New 3.75″ Scale Action Figures and playsets in 2013

In a recent interview for www.toysnplaythings.co.uk, Character along with several other companies have talked about their future plans for Doctor Who Products.

You can read all the interviews and stories via www.toysnplaythings.co.uk magazine or click on the image below.

One quote however appears to give us some major news on new figures and sets…

What exciting new products will you have coming out in future?

“Our product range will be diverse and innovative, in addition to the figures and playsets that have been released, Autumn 2012 will see the first Doctor Who App-related toy in which you connect your smartphone to a physical device enabling kids to digitally battle Daleks, Cybermen and Angels as they appear in their actual location on screen via augmented reality. We have huge expectations from an exciting new toy range for 2013 with new scale action figures, playsets and role play toys. Construction will continue to grow with the introduction of Series three micro-figures and all new playsets based on the upcoming episodes.”

The current 5 inch figure range

  • The Classic series figure range will stay the same scale, 5 inches.
  • No more new series figures will be made in the 5 inch range.
  • Rory was the final new series figure to be made for the 5 inch scale range, although there may be re-releases (Like the B&M Dalek and Cybermen sets).

The new 3.75 inch figure range

  • The new scale range will be 3.75 inches which is industry standard. This means the toys will be more compatible with other ranges.
  • There are no plans to release already existing figures in the new scale range. (Excluding Daleks and Weeping angels seen in series 7)
  • Photos of the range will not be released until next year.
  • There is a possibility stands if costs allow but priority will be given to the figures.
  • There will be a range of four playsets.

Above is what we know so far thanks to Alasdair Dewar.

So there’s no new series 5″ figures? There only doing classics? If this is true, the new ones won’t sell AT ALL! I and many other people won’t be buying them! I can’t belive it… I’m totally shocked about it! 👿

They still have to bring a few more out before they start the new line AT LEAST! They don’t think about us people who collect nearly every figure released! It’s just not fair! Well Character Options go and check your inbox BECAUSE THERE MAY BE A FEW NASTY COMPLAINTS!

You’ll probablly find that’s why there’s been no figures this year, to put the 5” figues out of the minds of many young children who don’t pay that much attention.

At least the classics will remain and hopefully they will change their stance on no 21st century figures (they certainly sound a bit shaky on the ban on the RTD era).

Agreed, Im still going to get the classics but I mostly collect the new series! You should see my collection of 5″ figures. Over 200 at least and my collection stops there! Just think of the figures we could of had!

Don’t forget the classic figures will still be made in 5 inch, it’s just new-Who that’s got this problem. Hopefully the first wave of 3.75 inch figures will absolutely bomb, CO will apologise, and things will get back to how they were.

Then again, maybe they’ll decide to give up on making Who toys and sell the license to someone that will decide to make a better 5″ range than CO did.

I think this news has made most of us glum to say the least, but the 5 inch line has been slowly heading towards its grave since 2009 and i would rather see this 3.75 inch action figure range than hear that classic quote “You Get Nothing, You Lose, Good day Sirs”

really though get a ruler and mesure 3.75″ It’s very small compared o the ones we have now. I sent a very angry email to character asking if they would carry on the 5″ range because i like buying the odd action figure if its good. But I will noy buy these as they will not fit with my big collection of 5″s. Bad idea if you ask me. They should have just produced smaller waves. Very annoyed! 👿

      October 15th, 2012 - 8:52pm

why dont they keep the 5″ running and insted of replacing them make the 3.75″ seperate so we get to keep the 5″ and get a new load of figures that are smaller

    • Dalekcaan1963

      October 16th, 2012 - 12:09am

Apparently they’re changing to just 3.75″ because
      1) It’ll be cheaper and more affordable to kids (despite the fact that figures of those ranges cost about £8 anyway, no big change).
      2) The 5″ range hasn’t been selling too well. Can’t say it’s surprising when all they’ve been making are Dalek repaints recently. They finally make something new with Sutekh, Brigadier, Omega monster thing ect that would surely boost sales, and they make a decision like this.

    • dra

      October 16th, 2012 - 3:56pm

maybe they could make the prices of the 5″ figures something like £7.99 then they will get more people buying them and the sets to cheaper prices and talking daleks to £10

    • booboo

      October 16th, 2012 - 3:59pm

look for offers, remember the talking Daleks had existing moulds that have been used over and over (and again in the future) hence the price.

I put a star wars figure next to my Doctor. Now for Figure Adventures how can I do The Doctor and Jenna meet Davros? Jenna gets attacked with a faulty TCE? Well actually…..

  • The TARDIS

    October 15th, 2012 - 6:46pm

I don’t see how shrinking the figures by 1 and a quarter inches is going to boost sales. And why didn’t character consider the 5″ line viable anymore?

    • booboo

      October 15th, 2012 - 6:50pm

Big retailers see this as a toy line that had become static and obviously stopped ordering , retailers did not want the classics either, if not for UT they would not exist either

    • The Monitor

      October 15th, 2012 - 7:24pm

One issue is the distribution of figures retailers experienced. In a box of 12, there might be only one sought after figure, padded out with 11 slow-moving ones.

I have heard for some time that 5in figures are dead; some were just too mass produced like Lazlo and the Vampire, others like Cyberman with gun were very difficult to get. There are huge surpluses of figures out there sadly, but then, there was with Tennant era figures too. Post Woolworths, saw the largest of vans had hundreds of figures but only 3 variants-£1ea & not selling ?!?

booboo can u do a poll to see who will stop buying the figures if the scale is changed as i think i will im not spending my money on another scale collection when i already have a good collection that i was proud of and would rather more releases in 5 inch than a new scale i wll only be buying classics if their 5 inch

no good doing a poll for something no one has seen yet, when we get the first images of the range everyone might be ecstatic for all we know

    • BOOBOO JR

      October 15th, 2012 - 6:53pm

True, I suppose we ought to wait and give these new figures a chance.

    • Dalekcaan1963

      October 16th, 2012 - 12:13am

If we wait for a poll, it’ll be too late. If we make a poll and show how many people are going to boycott it, CO might change their minds (or at least make a 5″ range as well as the 3.75 one). It doesn’t matter how stunning these new sets look, the size alone is enough to stop many people collecting, and a poll would be good to see that. I wanted to vote on the current one, but “I’m not sure” doesn’t sum up my dislike of this decision.

  • itdalek

    October 15th, 2012 - 6:11pm

i think character options have had a mistake big anougth for then no longer be able to make figure because no one will buy them and most true collectors will compain plus they will end in a right old mess and going to that size figures is bad any way as many get discountied, by next year they have to go back to 5 inch or they will end up like dapol

End of New Series 5” figures,ok. But think one second about it? Guess whose fault is it? Theirs, not ours, cause Series 5 was ok but Series 6: missing crucially appealing figures, lots of 11th Doctor variants, that horrible white glue everywhere…Guess why they are not selling.

this “glue” you mentioned, do you mean the flesh goo? and also, why do you think they are not selling?

    • David

      October 15th, 2012 - 6:00pm

The goo thing, yes. Well, i can’t see any other reason. I mean, how many for buyers would have been if instead of 11th Doctor with blue shirt they released an Hanbot, or the Minotaur? They have just been too conservative and not used the potential of the line, simply bad management, its quite obvious. It’s like in a restaurant: at the end of 3 months, if the Aubergine stuffed with Haggid 13.95 pound don’t sell, what does the chef do?Change the menu. Chef’s fault though

    • THE ERGON

      October 15th, 2012 - 8:14pm

We wanted handbots, minotaurs, girl vampires etc.. Instead, what did character give us?- A load of inconsequential figures like the editor, hawthorne, laszlo etc.. Which wouldn,t have been so bad,but they couldn,t release figures to compliment them with,E.G- Tallulah, the fish vampires..the list goes on.CO shouldn,t have took the contract to start with if they couldn,t see it through.

    • Justjeulin

      October 16th, 2012 - 9:44pm

Totally agree, CO just have blind faith that we;ll buy their every figure, and that caused them to make those rubbish figures( Except Idris, I liked her). And CO still have that blind faith in us with this new scale

Same rule applies until stated otherwise (it won’t be, the Daleks will need to be the same range if they think it’ll fix sales, kids will want a scale Dalek to their other toys, specially as they’ll be the best sellers); Classic Daleks 5″, new-Who Daleks 3.75″.

      It sucks.

  • Dalek Prime Minister

    October 15th, 2012 - 5:40pm
