New 3.75″ Figures and playsets in 2013 – Poll

New 3.75″ Scale Action Figures and playsets in 2013

In a recent interview for www.toysnplaythings.co.uk, Character along with several other companies have talked about their future plans for Doctor Who Products.

You can read all the interviews and stories via www.toysnplaythings.co.uk magazine or click on the image below.

One quote however appears to give us some major news on new figures and sets…

What exciting new products will you have coming out in future?

“Our product range will be diverse and innovative, in addition to the figures and playsets that have been released, Autumn 2012 will see the first Doctor Who App-related toy in which you connect your smartphone to a physical device enabling kids to digitally battle Daleks, Cybermen and Angels as they appear in their actual location on screen via augmented reality. We have huge expectations from an exciting new toy range for 2013 with new scale action figures, playsets and role play toys. Construction will continue to grow with the introduction of Series three micro-figures and all new playsets based on the upcoming episodes.”

The current 5 inch figure range

  • The Classic series figure range will stay the same scale, 5 inches.
  • No more new series figures will be made in the 5 inch range.
  • Rory was the final new series figure to be made for the 5 inch scale range, although there may be re-releases (Like the B&M Dalek and Cybermen sets).

The new 3.75 inch figure range

  • The new scale range will be 3.75 inches which is industry standard. This means the toys will be more compatible with other ranges.
  • There are no plans to release already existing figures in the new scale range. (Excluding Daleks and Weeping angels seen in series 7)
  • Photos of the range will not be released until next year.
  • There is a possibility stands if costs allow but priority will be given to the figures.
  • There will be a range of four playsets.

Above is what we know so far thanks to Alasdair Dewar.

Something tells me Character are losing some of their fans… Don’t really understand the point in restarting the range – it’s hardly a huge change from 5″. Just a big enough change to infuriate anyone who collects all figures and wants them to be to scale WITH EACH OTHER!

So disappointed at this news. There’s so may figures from Series 6 and 7 that we still want in the 5″ range. Is it too late for Character to cancel this, as not to many people seem impressed about it? At least we’ll still get 5″ Classics though.

I think it would have been a lot better if they just started producing figures of decent choice, rather than change the size. I don’t want to start all over again after 7 years of collecting. Kids are not going to buy a bearded doctor or an uncle figure or endless Silent or Cybermen variations.

That’s where the problem is, not the size.
They should have asked fans their opinion before making such as big decision. I don’t know why they didn’t.

Such a shame. I am actually considering stopping collecting the figures now. I think character will lose lots of interest because we have loads of 5″ figujres already so 3.75″ won’t fit in….AAAAAARRRRGGHHHH! WHHYY CHARACTER, WHHHYYYY?

    Hi BooBoo
Have I understood it correctly that CO will now ONLY release 11th Doctor figures in the new 3.75 scale. However, any 1st-10th Doctor related figures will still be release in the 5 inch scale ONLY?

So we probably wont see anymore 5 inch 9th, 10th and 11th Doctor related figures…but will continue to see 1st-8th Doctor related figures via FP exclusives.

I suspect they will start releasing the past Doctors in the new scale at some point.

Why Why Why Why change it now? All our collections are in 5″. I don’t want two diffrent sizes of figures. CO you are making a bad move. It is this years figure choices that have let you down, not the size.

    I am considering stopping now.

Maybe I’m wrong but I expect lots of people now will get rid of their 5” spare figures kept in the package. I personally have all new series figures both displayed and kept in the box and I will probably keep the ones for armies(daleks, angels…) and the rarest ones (time crash, purple clockworkman…) but sell all the others (brannigan, laszlo…). I’ll also keep the classic in the box though and depending how are the new figure, eventually buy them.

I,m going to hang on in future and be selective with what i buy. The classics are safe though.

Right guys, this is all the information in a Nut shell:

From 2013, Character Options will no longer be producing 5″ scale action figures for the new series of Doctor Who.
They are re-scaleing them down to 3.75″. It has been confiremd that Rory is officially the last 5″ New series figure to be released. The new figures will not include figures we already have. For example, they will not release a 3.75″ Smiler figure as it has already been released in 5″ format. So we can expact brand spanking new figures with the 3.75″ line.

However, the Classic line of action figures will remain at 5″ scale. This has been confirmed to include the 9th and 10th Doctors also.

Also confirmed is that the classics will still be sold via Underground toys (Figures developed by Character). So character still do have a huge contribution to the 5″ classic figures as they develop them.

Well, that’s it. Lost the chance for a Jenna Lousie coleman figure of the 5 incg scale.
However, playsets would be cool and I see why there changing the scale, but are UT still going to make classic figures? And what do they mean by re-releases and suprises?

I won’t lie…I am pretty gutted. All the new series figures on my shelf suddenly feel pointless and i don’t really want them there now because i know nothing will be added to them to expand the collection.

And i can’t stand the 3.75″ scale because it just seems so tacky. I hate small figures which is why i gave up the CB collecting.

Ah well. Looks like i’ll be selling off my new series figures or packing them away at least.

It depends what the new figures look like. If they are pretty decent and are full of new characters then i probably will get them.

But no matter what, i’m going to keep collecting the classic.
