The TARDIS arrives in December 1986 at a South Pole Space Tracking station where the personnel, under the command of General Cutler, are engaged in trying to talk down a manned space capsule that has got into difficulty.

The base is invaded by a force of alien Cybermen. The Cybermen’s world, Mondas, is draining energy from Earth – once its ‘twin planet’ – and the situation will soon become critical

Interesting change of style for the covers of these releases theyre almost like classic oil paintings in style cant say Im overly keen on that ice warriors one though….ice warriors had transparent/silvery ‘visors’ in that story if the colour photos from that serial are anything to go by….Pity they didnt base the cover on the classic still of varga by the ice face like the much superior achilleos book cover.

Everything can be cannon if you want. Don’t let it ruin your enjoyment of the story. Cannon is something that I think varies from person to person.

Any association with the Doctor Who logo makes it valid merchandise. But whether it is canon is a different matter. I will buy it because it says “Doctor Who”. Chances of coming out of the cellophane are minuscule. Dreamland and Infinite Quest are still sealed. Why don’t I watch these? Because there seems more value in rewatching something I have already seen than watching animation.

For me the strongest canonical bond to transmitted non-animated Doctor Who is Big Finish audio, by miles.

I still think the william hartnell tv comic strip where he met santa is canon and in between televised episodes patrick troughtons doctor took on some sabre toothed gorillas with baseball bats made from a new rubber called squidge…if big finish stuff is canon why not……

Of course it’s not. The DVD team didn’t know last time until the announcement itself.

Besides, if there had been a recovery, what would they be saying? They wouldn’t be shouting out that there’s going to be more DVDs when there couldn’t possibly be any, are they? It would raise suspicions greatly.

We won’t have a clue if there is any truth in these rumours until either an announcement happens or the DVD range does actually come to an end.

I wish they would release a box set of the Sarah Jane adventures with the 10th & 11th Drs and the Brig episodes, as im not keen on buying the whole series just for these episodes. Anyone out there listening? For add extra how about including those Dr Who and Sally-Anne Maths Spoof? I’m sure you would make money on it for those who wouldn’t ordinarily have bought the Sarah Jane Series.

yes. there is a lot more extras they can do as well if done in the classic style like production subtitles, new commentaries, full confidentials, new documentaries, series 2 tardisodes, and of course to have matching covers.

and Steve Roberts of the restoration team have infromed us that they are standing down and have no more dvd`s planned to work on after the moonbase. the series has come to s natural end .

I ownder if collections in slip cases at value for money prices is the way now. as the team have no budgets to even do commentaries/making off`s/ etc

No, its The Moonbase, The Underwater Menace and then that’s it for the range. Done forever, there’s some debate going on over The Crusade, but by the sounds of things they aren’t going to do it because it could be seen as offensive (due to actors of one race wearing make up to look like members of another race to put it politely, they’d need to animate the actors like this and it could cause all manner of problems).

    • LG

      August 20th, 2013 - 5:38pm

I’m sorry but that’s just a bit silly, people should put things like that behind them, it was a whole part of that era. We have learned from those times and we now have some really great Black actors and comedians and so forth.

    • MasterKasterborous

      August 20th, 2013 - 6:40pm

That’s just a fan assumption and has never been said. All we know is that The Moonbase is coming out with animation next year and that Underwater Menace 2 is also. It is most likely going to have its own release with animation.

Where has it been confirmed; do you have a quote?

    • Anonymous

      August 20th, 2013 - 9:37pm

Unfortunately not, I had the information passed onto me, but it was on Gallifrey Base I believe (or whatever it’s called now). I heard on the third of May so it will probably be around that point if you want to try and find something.

Sorry I can’t be of more help.

    • MasterKasterborous

      August 21st, 2013 - 8:35am

It would have been on May 2 (for DWM subscribers) that the news of The Moonbase animation was confirmed. However, as far as I am aware, no such animation has been confirmed on The Underwater Menace. All we know is it’s getting a release with it’s third episode and restoration has taken place.

    • Anonymous

      August 21st, 2013 - 10:34am

So it would make sense if they’ve gone online and announced that as well (or somebody asked them about it and they’ve confirmed it because of The Moonbase news).

“It would be more acceptable than it was on ‘Lost in Time’, but it’s never going to be perfect. That said, given that there’s no alternative, I don’t think that would stand in the way of a re-release if there was a commitment to animate the other two episodes. I’m not aware of that being the case however.”

That’s about The Crusade, which is far more recent but you can see from that

    • Anonymous

      August 21st, 2013 - 10:36am

      *continued*

The Underwater Menace would surely follow the same procedure and the third episode would only qualify for a re-release if it was accompanied by animation.

Not quite the quote I was looking for (or indeed confirmation) but unfortunately it’s the best quote I can offer unless you want to do some digging yourself but it is out there.
