Figurine Collection Magazine Special 24 Bio Mechanoid

On the planet Svartos, the Doctor and Mel unexpectedly encounter an old friend – Sabalom Glitz. Joined by Ace, a teenage waitress with a love for explosives, the group ventures off to find the fabled Dragonfire treasure.

The 24th special figurine stands 120mm tall and comes with a fully illustrated magazine on the monster’s design and the making of ‘Dragonfire’, which also featured the departure of Bonnie Langford as Mel Bush and the debut of Sophie Aldred as companion Ace.

It annoys me a lot that as a premium subscriber we are left to wait for specials behind casual buyers where we should be the first to review it…not 10 days later. This could do with being rectified. I am not saying they shouldn’t get them…but later than the subscription people as we have been loyal since issue 1.

If you feel this way you should just buy them off the website where you have to pay delivery. Yes you can use a code but it works out more expensive.

As Subscribers we get £1 discount and free delivery. This is for our LOYALTY.

Yes we have to wait as they come with our next 2 issue subscription which is usually just a couple of weeks later.

For example this and Davros and River are due within the next 7 days. Not long really…

Just seen on ebay the 8th, Lucie Miller and time controller dalek box set. £149.95 !!!! Does anyone know if more of this set will become available? I am desperate to get one but 5 times the price is a bitter pill to swallow. Love the look of this latest special though.

I’m sure I read that for the moment all the figurines will come back into stock eventually (possibly from Ben Robinson?) but it may take a while.

For instance I waited years for the ‘Mechanus Attack Dalek’ to come back but it did and still have a replacement First Doctor Companion set on order.

I’m going to go into WH Smith pretending the floor is slippery when I get this just like the 7th Doctor wondering around the ice caves (shame non of the other actors joined in).

Once again yet another cosmic figurine that surpasses and exceeds our wildest expectations. It really must be a labour of love for everyone involved with this collection and I’d love for it to still be going in 2023 when the show celebrates its 60th anniversary and the collection celebrates its 10th. It has been a delight right from the start and the fact we now have companion sets, time lord sets and TARDIS consoles as well is just absolutely beautiful. I hope they will one day be able to add TARDIS exteriors to the collection. All in all I couldn’t be happier and I’m soooooooooooo stupidly excited to see what BIG news is coming up and all the new and exciting figurines that will be included in the future to what, in my opinion, is the greatest figurine collection Eaglemoss/Hero Collector has ever done. Well done to Ben Robinson, Neil Corry and everyone else involved with this, they have our undying gratitude. ❤️

I went off the show when Mccoy came in. I initially found him irritating and so found getting interested in other pursuits including Girls, Nightclubs etc. I saw a few at the time like Remembrance and parts of Silver nemesis and The curse of Fenric. It was only during the mid 1990s that i came back to it and bought/Reasessed all of Mccoys Era on VHS and found myself actually enjoying most of them. There are things i wish they had done differently especially with his first season but appreciate that era more now. There are actually more figurines that i wish they would do, Kandyman excluded, there are 3 at least from paradise Towers i,d like and More from ‘The Greatest show..’..

Good that you came back to them Ergon. I get annoyed when some fans just slag Sylvester off without even giving him a go.

Every Season has issues. I dislike Season 24 but really like Dragonfire. I love Season 25 and 26. 7th and Ace have a great relationship (like in real life) and Ace had proper character development too. It is still a shame they never got to do one more Season as things improved greatly by the end of the run.

I met them both 3 years ago and chatting to Sophie for a while was lovely.

      But yes, more figurines please.

I’m guessing we won’t see 7th in Brown Jacket as part of the main range now and will be part of his companion set instead?

I loved McCoy from the moment he leapt from the table in time and the rain. Yes, the first few stories are ok but I love dragonfire (despite a slightly daft storyline. Why did kane never just buy a new ship and leave svartos!) It was McCoy and ace along with target books starting to print older stories that got me back into who as I was verging on stopping after davison/Baker. So I’ll always be grateful to the seventh doctor for keeping me in a show I still love to this day.

    • The Ergon

      July 1st, 2020 - 4:01pm

Out of the four of season 24, its Dragonfire i like the best but at the time it felt like a different beast under cartmel. It just felt too camp and juvenile and i didn,t like the incidental music then either which is why i gave up on it for a while. I wasn,t very adaptable to this changeover anyway, it took a few stories to get used to colin( I was disgruntled when the BBC sacked him just has he was starting to have that warm rapport with Peri) but he had the beautiful Nicola Bryant for the crossover so she helped facilitate that easing into his new doctor. Shame she left and Grade disliking Colin Baker as the Doctor. Would have loved to have seen him in that alternate season 23.
P.S- Kane would make a really good Figurine, frozen or melty faced.

      July 1st, 2020 - 8:50pm

It was a combination of things that made me stay with who. In 1984 I was getting bored with it. Not so much davison, more his companions and some poor stories. Plus target were concentrating on the new stories so all I was reading was the stories I’d just watched. Then the dominators was released and I read it. It wasn’t the greatest but suddenly here was a story that was new to me. The next book was warriors of the deep and I genuinely think if I’d read it straightaway I’d have drifted away from who but I decided to read lord of the rings. It took me three months and in that time the Aztecs, inferno and the Highlanders came out. I read those and was interested in who who. Wanting more of the old stories. Warriors was read without a problem. But I still wasn’t hooked on the show during Colin’s era. I liked colin but didn’t like his stories. So cue McCoy talking ten to the dozen and I sat up. That first series was an oddity. Commissioned before he was cast the stories aren’t quite right but then came remembrance and that was it. Hooked again. 30 years on I’m still hooked.

There was supposed to be a Special every 12 weeks as i heard someone recall once.

    • Neil

      July 11th, 2020 - 1:19pm

There’s no “supposed to”. We work to a schedule, for sure, but things happen. The Biomechanoid was “supposed to” be out at least six months/two special issues ago, and didn’t seem like it wasn’t going to ever be released at one point.

I know everyone has wish lists, and everyone here knows I’ve warned that people are bound to end up a little disappointed if a favourite doesn’t appear in the Collection. Can I ask, again, and politely, to celebrate what it is, and not what it can’t be. We can’t do everything, even though we really really want to.

And look at what we’ve been able to do, thanks to some of the best subscribers and collectors around. You’ve all helped make this the longest part-work I’ve ever had the pleasure of working on. There are some great surprises in store…

This wasn,t a cynical comment aimed at you Neil, and i,m sorry if it came over that way but i read that there was going to be a special every 12 weeks by someone on here, so its a case of don,t believe everything you read . I am aware of what figurines you have previously said would not be achievable or not practical and in the time frames you work with and taken that on board as it is most unlikely to appear in this collection . I hope it continues to celebrate all areas of the doctor who universe New and classic. Whatever releases are unveiled after Issues 181 i,m sure they will be great.

These larger specials, really allow the sculpters, to add in the little details, that make these DW aliens look fantastic.

I am sure a special large sized Ergon, would look so much better, with that Eaglemoss touch. The recent 12th Doctor console, is a masterpiece, of all the little bits and details, that make things like this look so good, yet for such a barain price. I dont know how they do it to be honest.

Sandy the Sand beast was in The Rescue, because Barbara kills him with a flare gun, and Vicki- who they’d just met, hates Barbara for the rest of the story (basically). But anyway, yes, Sandy would be good.

It’s OK, both good stories. For some reason whenever I see Sandy I think- ‘ooo! the first alien in Doctor Who!’ (as in the metal creature in The Daleks)
