peculiar, it seems the fifth doctor sonic is selling better than the eighth doctor, judging by the higher price for the fifth on amazon and it is sold out on both forbidden planets, character is struggling to keep up with demand

It proves my theory that the Doctor makes the sonic cool and not the opposite and Davison’s Doctor was always really popular if I’m not mistaken.

Yes it does, at the beginning McCoy pushes it down and it retracts.

    For Wave 3 I’d like:

    Second Doctor’s Sonic Screwdriver
    Sixth Doctor’s Sonic Lance
    Romana’s Sonic Screwdriver
    Amy’s Sonic Probe

Instead of the awful Series 3 which was shown at the 2014 Toy Fair.

      My wave 3 would be

      Second doctor sonic screwdriver
Laser sonic screwdriver ( it is rather hard to find these days)
Destroyed 10th Dr sonic from 11th hour
      Amy’s sonic probe
      Sonic cane

      January 26th, 2014 - 4:47pm

I don’t see how a Sonic Cane could fit into packaging this size, and knowing health and safety these days, a Destroyed Sonic will probable be a cut hazard.

    • the astronaut of death

      January 26th, 2014 - 4:51pm

Well the sonic cane dose not have to be part of the wave

And the destroyed sonic dose not have to be a hassard they just need to add a bit of paint and design that will make it look battered and the shape could easly be made safe

    • I Froze Gallifrey

      January 30th, 2014 - 3:31pm

Tyke, McGanns Dark Eyes Sonic was made exclusively for Big Finish, so Character Options don’t have the rights to make it.

      100000BC, because Colin Baker’s coat wasn’t sonic.

    • CG

      February 5th, 2014 - 12:37pm

I wouldn’t mind a 6th doctor coat but the sonics in wave 3 I would like would be:

      Sonic Lipstick
      Sonic Lance (6th Doctor’s)
      Second Doctor’s Sonic
      and maybe Romana’s.

@ I Froze Gallifrey: They could make a sonic cane that was retractable (that pushed into itself) so it would fit into normal packaging but I wouldn’t really want a sonic cane anyway.

I reckon you should do a review of the Wave 2 release of the 11th Doctor’s sonic, just so people can see for sure what has been removed from it.

I mean, most of us here knows what hhas been changed, but there are also members here that don’t, aswell as people on YouTube.

It would be cool if people had a definitive review, just so they know which version to avoid.

Aside from the extremes of semi-bespoke $4000, sonic screwdrivers have ranged, in proper high-street shops from about £1-2 (equivalent value for one that is free with DWA) to £250 for an MFX replica.

A sonic for £10-£11 can only be so good. They look great in their packagaing and that is where mine will stay.

My only concern is one of clarity over the release of a seemingly identical screwdriver in marginally revised packaging that is generic to all four screwdrivers.

CO website comparison suggests a 0.005kg weight difference -pen related?

    • Balakin

      January 23rd, 2014 - 11:27pm

That was an Ever Ready pen light, nothing more or less, off the shelf, and that’s it. It is so slim, I don’t think a sound chip would fit into it even if somebody started to make those.
The best option would be if Ever Ready started to reproduce those but I don’t think they care too much about DW or any other merchandise. As for a plastic toy version: it would be a stick with a led, without sound. Not the most attractive toy to sell. But that’s just my opinion.

In the tv movie it’s out of focus when McCoy uses it but in Night of the Doctor McGann holds the bullet to the dead Cass when he is scanning her.
When the Doctor opens the door earlier, the sonic is out of focus but he puts his thumb on the emitter and I assume he wouldn’t put his thumb on the pointy bullet.

    • booboo

      January 19th, 2014 - 7:55pm

Big retailers saw it as an old line and stopped ordering in the quantities needed to make it viable

Character had loads planned, a second 11 Doctors set for a start

3.75″ figures are a “toy” line and doing fine for what they are

You’re actually surprised about all that? Have you bought classic screwdrivers before? None have had the classic sounds.

    • Balakin

      January 18th, 2014 - 4:47pm

8th has the 11th sound effects in the Night of the Doctor and he hasn’t used the telescopic function in that episode, so it is screen accurate enough, from that episodes perspective (the sonic had more screentime in Night of the Doctor than in the tv movie).
But with that intention, nobody should buy either any of the classic sonics aor the War Doctor sonic, because the sounds are wrong in all of them in way or another (all versions contain effects which shouldn’t be there).

    • Balakin

      January 18th, 2014 - 4:49pm

doctorpond393: the latest release of the 3rd and 4th sonics had the classic sounds with the modern sounds too (so 4 effects and they are circulating), But they put the same chip into the War Doctor sonic and the 10th sonic too.

I am aware that previous classic screwdrivers did not have the classic SFX aswell. I bought them in the hope future releases would correct this. My issue is the fact that they have the sound effects on a soundcard for the other Doctor Screwdriver already, and yet they haven’t bothered to insert that card into the new classic releases. It would be a simple enough job, and i wouldn’t mind paying more for it either.

8th Doctor sonic: “TV Movie” sound effects.

10th Doctor sonic: Blue LED instead of purple UV LED.

11th Doctor sonic: “Red setting”, as seen in “Cold War”. “Blue setting” as seen in “Journey To The Centre Of The TARDIS” and “Closing Time”. Ability to use the button on the handle to activate the effects while the sonic is in it’s extended mode.

is the fifth doctor’s one pull-down like the fourth’s or a button like the eighth’s?

They’re both going to be “pull-downs”, like the 3rd and 4th Doctors sonics were.

Multiple people are confirming that the 8th sonic works with a button, so only the 5th is “pull-down”.

Seems like a lot of rubbish to me, considering that neither the 5th or 8th Doctor sonics are even out yet.

      Are they?
I was told by Forbidden Planet in a private message that January 30th was the release date.

It seems that it depends on where you live. I’ve seen 2 people on this site saying they saw these in the Nottingham Forbidden Planet (but my friend went there yesterday and friday too and haven’t find any(and she’s a whivian too, so she knows what to look for). But today I saw and 8th sonic on ebay (with a real photo, not with promo pic)so somebody was able to buy these, no doubt.
