    Hey Everyone 🙂
Just want to see if I am the only person who thinks that the covers for some of the recent dvd releases including this one and others such as Mind of Evil and Greatest Show in the Galaxy are too cartoony and should be more like off the top of my head Planet of the Spiders using real images? I know it is a superficial detail but i’m disapointed with a lot of them. Any thoughts? 🙂

what is the max number of animated epiosde the animates can get out of the budget?

    • Anonymous

      April 17th, 2013 - 9:53pm

if the budget can make only three epiosodes The Daleks masterplan can be done by the following

      volume 1:episodes 1-3
      volume 2:episodes 4-6
      volume 3:episodes 7-9
      volume 4:episodes 10-12

    • Some bloke

      April 18th, 2013 - 3:01pm

I’m sorry anonymous but NO FANS want to see the daleks masterplan split into 4 parts. What is it with people thinking that it will be a good idea splitting daleks master plan and wheel in space into more than one release, just to get the animated episodes. It would be awful having to wait several months just to buy the next 3 episodes of daleks masterplan after the other. I say a big NO NO!

    • Gordon

      April 18th, 2013 - 11:09pm

      Currently the limit is 2

    • Some bloke

      April 19th, 2013 - 11:18am

hey gordon, what happens when all of the stories with only 2 missing episodes, are animated and released? Will they move onto three episodes, or will that just be the end of the classic range?

    • Anonymous

      April 19th, 2013 - 12:50pm

so in that case 2 being the max then if the bbc can commision the dalkes matser plan

what they can do is make two epiosde at a time and them store them till there all done (maybe a year or two)them release it

    • Gordon

      April 19th, 2013 - 3:59pm

that won’t help as the budget is currently limited to 2 episodes per release. I think the range will probably stop next year when all stories that only have 2 eps missing have been done. All depends on if the cost of animations have dropped that they can afford 3 eps per release

    • Anonymous

      April 19th, 2013 - 9:23pm

      fair enough

    • Anonymous

      April 19th, 2013 - 9:25pm

i would of thought the BBC would put more money in the animation budget in shed of the re-releases

    • Gordon

      April 19th, 2013 - 11:10pm

Each story gets its own budget depending on how well its expected to sell and the budgets for special editions doesn’t effect the budget for animated stories. The problem is with animation is its still expensive and the DVDs only sell a certain number of copies. The cost of doing a 3 episode animation is just too expensive and Bbcww would make a loss

    • Anonymous

      April 20th, 2013 - 9:08pm

but the daleks master plan is one of the stories all fan want to see so the BBC want lose money there losing money on the re-releases

    • Gordon

      April 21st, 2013 - 2:36pm

But the DVDs only sell a certain number of copies.some as low as 20k copies. if sales were higher they could get a larger budget. They would need to sellat least 4 times the amount of a strong seller to make masterplan affordable. the special editions are cheaper to produce and are much easier to see a return on. The fact that they continue to make them and haven’t stopped would suggest to me that bbc ww are happy enough with sales and arent losing money on them.

    • Anonymous

      April 22nd, 2013 - 7:02pm

so if we cant look forward to masterpaln being release stories can we look forward to?

    • Gordon

      April 22nd, 2013 - 11:20pm

Beyond the aniversary id say moonbase(if it doesnt appear this year)Underwater menace and hopefully crusade with possible special editions to fill the animation waiting time inbtween.Unless sales vastly increase or animation costs signifitly drop(both are unlikely in my opinion) i can see the range stop after that. Its going to be difficult for the range to keep going without new releases.Mind you they could always go for an even more basic and cheaper style (possibly even in a drawing style) which an idea dan hall has mentioned as a possibility

    • Anonymous

      April 23rd, 2013 - 4:30pm

      for two animation eps

      The Crusade
      The Underwater Menace
      The Moonbase

      for 3 animation eps

      Galaxy 4
      The Celestial Toymaker

      for 4 animation eps

      The Myth Makers
The Massacre of St Bartholomew’s Eve
      The Savages
      The Smugglers
      The Highlanders
      The Macra Terror
      The Faceless Ones
      The Wheel in Space

if the BBC put a double buget into the animation them 4 missing epiosde can be done

    • Gordon

      April 23rd, 2013 - 6:20pm

Sales arent high enough for bbc worldwide to double the budget per release. With the current number of sales the dvds get the budget can barely stretch to 2 let alone 3 or 4.They just dont sell enough copies to warrent upping the budget.I dont think people realise how expensive animation is. The 2 eps of reign cost 12k plus add restoration costs extras commentaries legal clearance manufacturing bbfc clearance etc it runs to about 20k. For them to break even they need about 60k and that is the norm for a high classic seller.

Is it known as to whether Dan Hall (i think is the man in charge of the DVD’s) is taking into really taking into consideration stories like Moonbase, Crusade and Underwater Menace for animation? also they aren’t going to be called The Moonbase Special Edition are they? i don’t think it really sits well like that.

I think the DVD releases for 2014 will be special editions and animations. I think the animated releases will be:
      The Moonbase
      The Underwater menace
      The Crusade
And i think the special edition releases will be:
      The Dalek invasion of Earth
      Earthshock
      The Mind Robber
      Ghostlight
      Curse of fenric
      Horror of fang rock
      Leisure hive
Thats my thoughts on the 2014 dvd releases whats yours?

    • Lachie

      April 17th, 2013 - 2:00am

Good List 🙂 i would go with that, i don’t buy the Sixth or Seventh Doctors so i wouldn’t know the state of those releases in their relevance to being Special Editions however two releases i would like even though they don’t need them would be “Earth-Shock” and “The Dalek Invasion of Earth”. the 2004 releases onwards now are pretty good Special Edition wise in that they really don’t need them and i think there great releases! like the “Horror of Fang Rock” and “The Leisure Hive” 😀

    • Lachie

      April 17th, 2013 - 2:06am

And for the list of animation releases, with “The Crusade” that will ‘complete’ the second season of William Hartnell which is really good. Although they could always not bother with that release since there is so much material having been made already in Lost in Time. “The Underwater Menace” is a given of course once Episode 2 has been sorted out although it could be released like Galaxy 4 as an extra i doubt it. And “The Moonbase” as far as i can tell is likely the first of the three and has already sort have been announced.

I don’t know Ian (though I’ve met him a couple of times) but he has done tones of projects for Who and was greatly responsible for the return of many missing episodes. Most his projects are private but he has offered them to the BBC to use. They have so far been rejected. His only official recon in the Planet of Giants extended edition found on the DVD of that story.

I heated someone on the Internet is making a dalek master plan animation! If so why would he make the dalek master plan in animation instead of releasing something that has less to animate. It needs 9 episodes animated out 12 since only 3 episodes survive. What I would do with 9 episodes of animation is 3 animation episodes for galaxy 4 or celestial toy maker and 5 episodes for the web of fear and 1 episode for mission to the unknown! What ones would you guys chose? And also they animated the mission to the unknown but the bbc didn’t want it!

I was lucky to see the animation and it was brilliant but then the BBC took it off YouTube! Does that mean that they are going to release it? If so I want it in its own DVD case not a special feature on a DVD! So what’s you guys thoughts on this and do you think there going to release on DVD? I would buy it though it probably would not sell on its own and would need to be released in a box set! Though the animation was great I wouldn’t be surprised if the BBC is planing to release this DVD soon!

    • MasterKasterborous

      April 14th, 2013 - 10:22am

      It’s still there you know…

I quite like the style of animation and with a few tweaks I think it would be fit for DVD release. Ian Levine is also animating The Daleks’ Master Plan as it’s something that the BBC would never do and also because it’s his all time favourite story.

    • Gordon

      April 14th, 2013 - 11:25am

Ian Levine’s mission to the unknown is ok for freebie but its not something I’d think about paying. Apparently Dan hall hated it (according to ian) so I doubt it will be released officially. The problem with mission is there is not enough footage to warrent its
Own release and there isn’t any stories left they could pair it with. Also masterplan and mission are pretty much interconnected and you really need both.
Unless the costs of animations drop enormously I can’t see masterplan get animated any time soon

I started collecting just in 2012’s December with ‘Survival’ and since then have 27 individual stories with 5 boxsets. If Doctor Who wasn’t so fantastic, it could be considered to a deadly parasite, lodging itself into peoples’ minds and forcing them to let it grow. Kind of reminds me of Audry II from ‘Little Shop Of Horrors’.

what i don’t understand with the DVD episodes that have animations, for a special feature, why can’t they have the surviving clips from the lost in time box set for that episode? like the reign of terror and the invasion (and now ice warriors) why don’t they have the surviving clips as special features?

because it would make lost in time worth-less

    • drjakeyoung

      April 13th, 2013 - 1:36pm

it is already starting becoming redundant anyway, it does not include all surviving clips as some where discovered after the release, they are starting to animate the episodes on there (maybe not all but the majority could be) plus it is almost 10 years old so i don’t see why they couldn’t spear 2 minutes of clips for each animated episode as extra’s.

    • Anonymous

      April 13th, 2013 - 4:11pm

The clips recovered just after Lost in Time was released were included on the Genesis of the Daleks DVD.

As for why there are no clips included on these DVDs, the answer simply is that they can’t include things that don’t exist. None of these three stories have footage from their missing episodes and The Ice Warriors is the only one with telesnaps (which are included).

Indeed out of all the stories up for consideration only The Tenth Planet and The Underwater Menace have footage.

    • drjakeyoung

      April 13th, 2013 - 4:25pm

reign of terror does have surviving footage for episode 4/5, it is on lost in time. My point was that they could just release the surviving footage onto the individual release.

    • Anonymous

      April 13th, 2013 - 7:31pm

It appears there is, but there is only about twenty seconds of it. You’d not be able to make a reconstruction, so your only option would be to pick the clips out of Lost in Time which would take a while (as they’d need to be re-evaluated by BBFC and the likes) and in the end it would probablly be more hastle than it is worth.

To keep it in budget you’d either need to release the whole lot again or just leave it for those who get the original set.

    • MasterKasterborous

      April 14th, 2013 - 12:57am

Actually the Reign of Terror clips (along with the linking VHS material) were just forgotten for inclusion according to Steve Roberts. I’m sure in future they will be included. The Invasion/The Ice Warriors have no surviving footage from their missing episodes.

The ice warriors dvd looks brilliant! The special features look amazing and the cover art is brilliant! The animation pictures for this story look amazing! This story is my favourite ice warrior story and the ice warriors costumes look great, the ice warriors are one of my favorite monsters and they return in series 7 part 2 episode cold war! Deffently buying this release!

Mind of evil cover art looks ok! Though it could of done being red! When does this website release the image here? Though i love the mind of evil and its creepy and scary and violent to the point where i think in region 4 its going to be rated M! I do think though it does look good with purple though like most fans i prefer red or orange. I cant wate to see the special features!

Why would the Ice Warriors cover (even though its TBC i know.) be shown off now or unveiled, isn’t this release going to be far back in august? i know it would be pretty impossible to release it a couple of weeks after “Cold War” on Sunday (<- in Australia) because of Animation but does this mean that they have finished covers for The Green Death and Spearhead from Space Blu-Ray? l'm just not sure why this cover has been shown in region 2 even when Mind of Evil is only in region 1 right now and we haven't seen the 2 releases before this one.

also l’m not complaining, getting to see this cover is amazing! just wondering why if theirs some sort of reason behind why we’re seeing the now. Could it be possible for them to move this release to an earlier time slot like July for example or June? because we can see this cover now’ or has this happened before with news in the dvd range around 2012 and 2011.

Animation is still being worked on so i doubt it could be moved forward. Even if finished tommorow it would still would need about 3 to 4 months to get legal clearance/bbfc clearance/quality control clearance/manufacturing etc

that makes sense, when should we be expecting covers for Spearhead on Blu-Ray and The Green Death then, sometime after The Visitation Special Edition no doubt.
