Doctor Who The Evil of the Daleks Paperback Inc With DWM

The latest addition to the Target Books range is included with the next issue of Doctor Who Magazine

The Evil of the Daleks has been adapted by actor Frazer Hines who played companion Jamie alongside Patrick Troughton’s Second Doctor in the story. Ranging from Victorian England to Skaro, home world of the Daleks, this epic adventure tests the bond between the Doctor and Jamie like never before.

  • It features the introduction of the Emperor Dalek, whose evil scheme threatens all human history…
  • Based on episodes first broadcast in the sixties, this seven-part epic – that claimed at the time to show the “final end” of the Daleks – was first broadcast between 20 May and 1 July 1967…
  • …In the summer of 1968 it became the first complete Doctor Who story to be repeated, with a scene at the end of The Wheel in Space showing the Doctor project the story via ‘thought patterns’ onto a screen to inform new companion Zoe what dangers she might encounter on their travels
  • This novelisation is based on Jamie’s reaction to this retelling. It’s an exciting addition to the range for all fans, but long-term collectors will find it fits perfectly between previously published adaptations of The Wheel in Space and The Dominators!
  • First published in 2023 as a hardback, this exclusive paperback edition, has brand-new cover artwork by Target cover artist Dan Liles and a foil embossed logo.
  • Doctor Who Magazine previously gave away a selection of old Target Books in 2008, and published samples of new books in the range in 2021’s The Library of Time, but this is the first time it has gone on sale with a previously unreleased, full-length Target Book.
  • The Target Books range is published by BBC Books. This title joins others covering all the Doctors –
including four Fifteenth Doctor novelisations published earlier this year.

Doctor Who Magazine Issue 609 is on sale Thursday 10 October from panini.co.uk and WH Smith priced £10.99 (UK).

A shame the Doctor’s head looks enormous compared to his body!

Is this exclusive to DWM or will it be available in bookshops later?

Cheaper to get with the mag. Paperbacks are roughly 7.99/8.99. With mag its only 3£.

Surely it will get a proper release in bookshops and on Amazon, such a shame to not have it more widely available.

The last set of target books retailed at £9.99 so I look at it as a pound for the mag.

Sv7 I presume it will get released hopefully in a new set of target books but if I’m happy to get it this way. It does deserve a commercial shop release though

Not sure without checking but were the Dalek sucker arm and gun on the opposite sides to normal in this story as they appear to be on this cover?
Could be if they had the gun on the front dalek showing instead of the arm we would have had another Davison Suchard Easter Egg embarrassment so they changed the arm and gun to the oposite sides to normal?

I think it’s a homage to the old target covers that showed the daleks that way round at times.

I wonder will this have been edited down from the hardback release or exactly the same.

By the sound of it this is the full novel. Remember it was only around 220 pages and had big print so similar to the recent rogue paperback and much shorter than day of the doctor considering how small the print in that was. Been waiting for a target paperback of this for ages. I had hoped it would be included in a new set of books but I’ll take this one. Hopefully we will get more target books announced soon. Matt Smith is woefully represented so far!

With the repeat of the “Evil of the Daleks” being canon it makes sense to retell the tale. John Peel’s version was very good, and so is this. The Frazer Hines version also elaborates on the original somewhat, making it pleasingly fresh. With scenes portrayed very differently to what was seen on television. For example, the Daleks striking up a conversation with Jamie as they try burning their way into the side room where he, Kemel and Victoria are barricaded within.

Weirdly I had been looking at the messages for the previous DWM article to see if there had been any further information on this upcoming release given in that comment section – then this popped up, timing!

The Foil Embossed Logo is a really nice Touch. (I think it will be Silver).
