Doctor Who The Complete Series 6 Steelbook
Available to order from www.amazon.co.uk
Also available to order from www.zoom.co.uk and www.zavvi.co.uk
The Doctor returns, alongside newlyweds Amy and Rory, to face monsters and mysteries and adventures all across time and space. Together they find themselves in Sixties America, battling the invasion the world forgot, then journey on the high seas of 1696 aboard a pirate ship, to solve the mystery of the Siren.
In a bubble universe at the very edge of reality, the Doctor meets an old friend with a new face, and in a monastery on a remote island in the near future, an industrial accident takes on a terrible human shape. And waiting for them, at the end of all this, is the battle of Demon’s Run, and the Doctor’s darkest hour. Can even the truth about River Song save the Time Lord’s soul? Only two things are certain. Silence will fall. And a good man is going to die…

August 10th, 2020 - 10:52amTo anyone whose got their copy, I’m assuming these still include the American remasters of the episodes that suffer from a bit of slowdown?
MJS
August 10th, 2020 - 9:16amWell it’s arrived. The box is gorgeous as always, but disappointingly the discs are identical to the original blu ray set, who does mean you’re paying only for the new box.
On the positive side, this is a 6 disc set. Series 7 was issued as a 5 disc set, which leaves scope for Day of the Doctor and Time of the Doctor to be included on one disc, which can bring season 7 to a six disc set when/if eventually released in this range.
DoctorPond393
August 10th, 2020 - 9:26amI would hope if they were to include Day/Time of the Doctor they wouldn’t put them on one disc. To make it worthwhile for those who bought the 50th set they’d need to either miss off the specials altogether for an individual steelbook, or include the whole 50th collection set as part of S7. I’d personally prefer an individual 50th Anniversary steelbook with Name/Night/Day/Time, An Adventure in Space and Time, and the other extras released on the original. It’s the only way you can get AAISAT on Blu-ray currently. So it would be nice to give others who didn’t get it the chance to own it at a much less expensive price point.
MJS
August 10th, 2020 - 10:09amHi Dr Pond. I’d have to disagree. AAISAT makes the 50th set unique and is not necessary to season 7. Day and Time are (and Night). It would make absolute sense to include them on S7.

August 10th, 2020 - 11:34amThey could also add death of the doctor, if they were doing a specials Steelbook for Matt.

August 8th, 2020 - 3:29pmNot turned up today from Zoom, despite being dispatched on Thursday, which is a tiny bit disappointing.
Will be a release day delivery this time then I guess.
Deano
August 10th, 2020 - 12:44pmMine never came on Saturday from Zoom which is unusual but perhaps they get sent out from there dispatch centre or picked up by Royal Mail at different times regardless of what the dispatch email stated as there automated which could explain why some get them different days.?.
Anyway mine did turn up today so very happy a lovely steelbook and hopefully your get yours today as well.
Dean Wells
August 10th, 2020 - 2:43pmThanks mate, yes mine came today as well phew!!!
Your explanation makes a lot of sense.
It’s a lovely steelbook as usual.
O
August 8th, 2020 - 1:26pmMy copy arrived this morning, and it looks beautiful. Shame that they didn’t change the disc artwork to match the previous sets though. Not reducing the amount of discs is one thing, but it seems a bit lazy not to have them match the others…
Dave
August 8th, 2020 - 2:21pmmy delivery date jumped to 17-18 august ??? (amazon)
Kevin Megannety
August 8th, 2020 - 1:20pmI also got mine today and the amazing thing about it is my order has to be shipped from the UK because its the best version of Amazon to use if you live in Ireland. Luckily my country has this amazing thing called Address-Pal where you can register with the national postal service and have all your UK and US orders be sent to there sorting office and have it shipped to you for a good price dependent on its weight, very reliable service. Its best used for stuff that the seller won’t ship outside of the country its in but its also good for everything else from abroad because it arrives quicker, no damage. I’m hoping there is some re-release for seasons 1 and 9 because those ebay prices are mad expensive.

August 8th, 2020 - 10:39amIve just recieved mine and im definitley gonna start watching it today but i cant believe we only have 2 more steelbooks left to get (maybe 3 because i hope they release the 2013 specials on a seperate steelbook rather than just being added into series 7) of the new series before this range is complete but of course they should continue to release the current series thats on tv in steelbook form
O
August 8th, 2020 - 1:24pmI’m hoping they do S9, 10 and 11 to match the artwork from the recent sets (and so the logo for S9 and 10 is the current one). Especially since S9 is no longer available…
daz
August 10th, 2020 - 8:17amNo doubt they will do upto 10. I expect 10 will include Twice Upon A Time too as a bonus disc.
Series 11 onwards might be redone eventually. There is a market for Limited Edition Steelbooks.

July 28th, 2020 - 8:28pmDoes anyone know the likelihood of this being stocked in store by hmv when released?
daz
August 2nd, 2020 - 10:19amIt should be as the other’s have. Obviously best to go on release day though. I’m sure if you ask in store they’ll order one in for you though.

June 28th, 2020 - 7:16amI’m really enjoying the steelbook range of re-releases. Saves space and looks great
Now. If in about 7 years time. If they decide to do a Collection range similar to the Classic Seasons set’s in the limited edition packaging with behind the sofa and new features would you buy them again?
And would you then sell the steelbooks?
I know I’d be tempted.
Rob W
June 28th, 2020 - 10:07amUm, 2027? Not sure if it will all be streaming by then daz
Rob W
June 28th, 2020 - 10:10am2027? Not sure if streaming might be the only option by then but I prefer a disc. Short answer is yes daz.
daz
June 28th, 2020 - 5:28pmI prefer disc too Rob W.
With my player and 4k screen which upscales too the episodes old and new look much better than their streaming counterparts.
I can’t see the bbc ever putting all the special features, commentary tracks etc on a streaming service either.
Steelbooks should hold their value or increase as there is a collectors market for them (not just Who) whereas the standard cases prices will flatline.
rene campbell
June 29th, 2020 - 9:38amdeffo would never sell the steel books. i wish the classics were released in steel book instead too. im also hoping for a re-release of the season 3 and 11 steel books as the artwork on them was abysmal

Richard
June 27th, 2020 - 8:26pmMy local hmv usually only gets about 2 copies of these steelbooks, so I have ordered online to secure my copy.
Whorules
June 27th, 2020 - 9:33pmI tried to support hmv but had endless problems with them. Including, non delivery of DVDs, wrong DVDs, no emails, no response to emails, unpleasant staff, unhelpful staff and a real fight to get money back. As much as I’m not keen on Amazon it will have to be them for DVDs for me. I get most of my books now through waterstone’s or the actual publishers.

June 27th, 2020 - 12:04pmAnd here I am, still hoping there will be a re-release of the series 9 steelbook that will never happen…
At least I have all the others and this one will be a fine addition to my collection.

June 26th, 2020 - 9:55pmAmazon can’t deliver it to my location in the states at the moment, so I ordered it through the US branch of Zavvi just to make sure I have one secured since I have all of the ones up to this point in the show (seasons 1-5) I wonder when we get up to season 9 on the steelbooks if they will re-release the one with Alice’s art or do another season 9 steelbook with new art.
daz
June 27th, 2020 - 9:24amIt will no doubt be new art as they are always limited editions. I hope they continue upto whatever Series we are on at that time.
Also hope 50th Anniversary has it’s content re-released in full on DAY/TIME set. Even with a spare disc tray for those who have the 3D version of Day so can all be stored in one place.
I love the Series 12 steelbook art but imagine that will get a new version too. If it wasn’t for the lack of extras and £50 price point I would have bought it just for the artwork.
JL
June 27th, 2020 - 9:30amIt would be nice to see series 11 get a new release with series dedicated artwork, not just a photo (however nice it looked)
Prowl 1701
June 29th, 2020 - 10:39pmI also hope we get Day/Time set steelbook. I would like a TUAT steelbook too.
René Campbell
June 30th, 2020 - 5:28amCompletely agree. Season 3 and 11 are the odd ones out! 3 had the wrong artwork originally so they just edited the master out of the front cover leaving a blank space where jack could’ve gone. They should’ve used better artwork for Martha. Compared to all the other steelbooks, season 3 is the most disappointing. There was so much potential for that season. They could’ve done the toclofane coming through the cracked red sky on the back and Martha jack and 10 on the front. That definitely needs a re release. And I agree about season 11…what happened to the artwork with that steel book???

June 26th, 2020 - 6:09pmThe release of this steelbook is great and all but…
Where is fury from the deep?

June 26th, 2020 - 6:38pmSeptember 14th accordig to zavvi. Still too early for the cover
Haza14
June 26th, 2020 - 3:32pmI really like this design! Although I wonder if this is just a copy of the original Series 6 release? I’d love it if Doctor Who at the Proms 2010 was included as it wasn’t on the Series 6 box set, only the Christmas Carol individual release. I do think they miss a trick with some of these in not including everything that’s available! They did that with the Specials but none of the others so far!
Rob W
June 27th, 2020 - 5:44pm6 discs unless Zavvi and Zoom have made a mistake. The original was 5?
Haza14
June 28th, 2020 - 10:41amOh really? That’s encouraging then!!
O
June 28th, 2020 - 4:33pmThe original Series 6 BluRay had 6 discs, not 5. It looks like this is just a copy of the original release, unfortunately.

daz
June 26th, 2020 - 1:19pmAlthough it is a bit busy I love the design.
The green of ‘house’ is nice and I like that the Doctor’s wives are on the cover.
Ordered from Zoom as always do.
£2 cheaper than Amazon too.
Now that this has been announced there is space In July to announce the next Season Set in time for a September release.
Fingers crossed!

June 26th, 2020 - 1:19pmNot my favourite series but a decent price

MJS
June 26th, 2020 - 12:48pmI do hope the series 7 steelbook covers from Asylum of the Daleks up to and including Time of the Doctor.
Anthony
June 26th, 2020 - 1:03pmI have a feeling that series 7 will be just that and the steelbook that follows will be labeled 50th anniversary specials and basically a repackage of the bluray/dvd limited edition set with Day and Time of the Doctor, Night of the Doctor and An Adventure in Space and Time. However i would be happy to be proven wrong.
O
June 26th, 2020 - 1:16pmYeah, I’d prefer this rather than just a straight re-release of S7, especially given that it’s only an extra two episodes (or three, if you include AAiSaT too).
Anthony
June 26th, 2020 - 1:24pmIt may only be two episodes but these episodes have always been sold on separate discs so either the BBC will have to repress the disc so both specials are on a single disc. Or do a 7 disc set which will be bulky. Not sure how they are set out on the US sets but for the UK it would make sense for a separate steelbook with all the extras included. Which is another reason to repackage the limited edition set onto steelbook format. This is the BBC we are talking about here. They will want to cut as many corners as possible
MJS
June 27th, 2020 - 7:25pmAnthony, the condensed the s5 set from 5 discs to 3 for the steelbook reissue so there is a possibility
Anthony
June 29th, 2020 - 10:22pmMJS. Yes but the point you are missing is, even though series 5 was condensed it still used discs that were already available in the Matt Smith boxset from the US. So yeah its possible but at this moment in time I don’t see it happening and going by what discs I know are out there its unlikely for me. If the BBC keeps using the discs from this set series 7 (which already is padded out BTW with two specials) makes it a 4 disc set. So add the other two brings it to 6. But there’s enough content to put into a specials steelbook so. Besides why waste an opportunity to get us to pay more money which let’s be honest us collectors will. I’d buy the specials in a stand alone steelbook.

June 28th, 2020 - 10:25amI’m going to email them and ask for a re-release, nothing to lose and everything to gain
Richard
June 29th, 2020 - 6:02pmI e-mailed them and they said that there are no current plans to re-release.
Richard
June 29th, 2020 - 6:06pmI guess I’m in the minority generally preferring Series 5 onwards where the series became more cinematic. I find the RTD era to be quite dated now, it all seems a bit Sarah Jane Adventures in style.
Bobby Fackrell
June 29th, 2020 - 10:23pmThey are no current plans but we have to keep on at them show them we want it!
The RTD years were fantastic, particularly series 1 and 3. The writing was also in the true spirit of the show what followed was a bit of a mess. Apart from the last two series, very happy with Chibbers and Jodie, particularly the desire to bring the historical elements back in
Bobby Fackrell
July 2nd, 2020 - 5:14pmHad a very positive reply to my email requesting a re-release of series one, let’s just say watch this space

June 26th, 2020 - 1:15pmI normally don’t have a problem with them but the 1 release that didn’t turn up I got a refund no problem 10 days after it didn’t turn up.

Gordon
June 26th, 2020 - 6:46pmI had no problem getting in contact with them. Got a response within hours and when I got a refund it appeared within minutes of them confirming the refund. I expect with the coronavirus their customer service would either be off or very undermanned

June 26th, 2020 - 11:27amShame the 11th doctor only wore that coat in 4 stories, as its’s not my favorite variation but is one I would’ve liked to see more of. Pity we only got a 3.75″ figure of it. Cover really looks lovely, as with always with these releases.
Phasergrim
June 26th, 2020 - 8:00pmMatt Smith actually disliked that coat, called it a mistake at comic con once.

June 26th, 2020 - 11:15amPre-ordered on Zoom asap. Really hope there’s less discs and/or new content like with Specials & Series 5.

June 26th, 2020 - 11:50amDid series 5 have new content?
Star Lord
June 26th, 2020 - 12:12pmNot new content but they were American remasters I believe? with the next time trailers reinstated, and they cut it down from 6 discs to 4. I switched from DVD to BR from Series 7 onwards so unless there’s new content I won’t really be able to justify re-buying the the rest for the sake of gorgeous artwork \_(-_-)_/
MJS
June 26th, 2020 - 12:37pmThere was new content on the series 5 steelbook?
Omega63
June 26th, 2020 - 11:14amThey keep pulling these out the park. The reflection of the Doctor in the Astronauts visor is incredible.
JL
June 26th, 2020 - 11:18amI really hope Sophie Cowdrey does the artwork for series 7, the 2013 specials, series 8 and twice upon a time (i hope the 2013 specials and TUAT do get steelbook releases as they would look lonely on the shelf surrounded by steelbooks)
Anonymous
June 26th, 2020 - 11:05amOne of my favourite series!
O
June 26th, 2020 - 11:00amHope Zoom have made a mistake and it’s not actually 6 discs. It’ll be disappointing if it is, because I liked how the Specials and S5 condensed them down and got more episodes onto each disc…
Shane McEntee
June 26th, 2020 - 11:51amMore discs is better. It means they don’t compress the nitrate as much and you get better picture quality.
Alan
June 26th, 2020 - 12:28pmWhy on earth would you want less discs per set? Blu Ray is supposed to show these stories in the best quality available and by adding more stories per disc the compression is going to be worse which results in inferior picture quality!
MJS
June 26th, 2020 - 12:50pmSeries 10 steelbook has 6 discs. It’s the same dimensions as all the others
O
June 26th, 2020 - 1:06pmSince Blu-Ray holds more space than DVDs it makes sense to utilise it, and means you don’t have to get up as often to change the discs. I know of US TV series that manage to fit 22 episodes across 4 or 5 discs, without noticing any major decrease in quality.
O
June 26th, 2020 - 1:13pm@MJS Yeah, the S9 and 10 have 6 discs but they were released at the same time as the normal Blu-Ray set so they’re just the same discs as those. Whereas these new steelbooks seem to be overhauling the discs (especially the Specials and S5).
Series 1-3 have three discs each, and S4, the Specials and S5 have 4 discs. The Specials even had a whole extra disc added and still came to less discs than the original Blu-Ray release, and they managed to cut two discs from S5, so…
JL
June 26th, 2020 - 10:50amSophie Cowdrey is amazing, just wow…
