Now August is drawing to a close, I don’t suppose anyone has heard anything regarding the next animation? Seems like we’ve had radio silence since Toymaker was announced.

Long rumoured to be smugglers as underwater menace was leaked story at the same time last February. Toymaker done as 60th included the character. Apparently Ian has said its one he has already ai completed. If it is smugglers that would mean the s4 box set be closer to release as would just leave highlanders to do a recon for (been said its too complicated to animate due to tartan). Be a shame as only 3 Troughton stories left (highlanders, wheel in space and space pirates) but if all 60s sets are being released with 1 story short/not fully watchable. S1 Marco polo, s3 three x4 parters to choose from, s4 highlanders, s5 wheel, s6 pirates.
      Obviously the remaining 9 stories (s1 marco polo 7/7, s2 the crusade 2, s3 myth makers 4/4, the Massacre..4/4, the savages 4/4, dmp 9/12, s4 highlander 4/4, s5 wheel in space 4/6, s6
the space pirates 5/6) will get the animation treatment. Mission to the unknown the bbc could do a deal to use the uniclan remake.

Even better if they worked with them do remake dmp in the same way they did mission.Either get David Bradley for 1st doc or cgi face tech like Disney did for Rogue One, rise of skywalker and dial of destiny to make it look like Hartnell. Next year will be 60 years since it first started (November 65 – January 66) so could be a Christmas broadcast event with mission televised aswell as its a prequel. Then a 2026 dvd/blu ray release. Possibly 2 s3 animations in 2025 would mean a possible s3 box set late 2027 early 28. I know all a pipedream

Everything seems to have gone quiet. Even than potential August announcement I heard about ended up as nought. I’m sure once they are ready to announce things they will. All I really know is that it’s supposedly a more obscure one and if you believe Ian Levine it’s not the smugglers and one that he’s already done which makes me think it’s the savages.

Disney has zero interest in classic who. Only in the current show. Even if they were they aren’t going to let bbc use about 5 hours of that cgi face tech for free. It’s horrendously expensive. See that scene in Indiana jones it was the most expensive sequences in Disney history. Can’t remember the total amount but it costs millions per minute. These animations are dvd budgeted titles. The budget wouldn’t even pay for a minute of that cgi tech. It’s pretty much a non starter because of that

As I say Gordon it be a pipedream. Would be fantastic if they could. Not a Disney Investment just meant a bbc studios make. Combined with Uniclan. Just as they did a fine job with mission be good to continue the story the same way.

David Bradley doesn’t seem interested in playing the doctor again. And he is 82. Not to mention that remaking masterplan would be horrendously expensive!

      September 2nd, 2024 - 12:01pm

Having a pipe dream is good but I’ve seen a few comments elsewhere suggesting that the animations should now look like Pixar as they have disney money and have free access to the technology. None of which is true

He’s got a big finish due out September next year. There is a big difference between audio and visual though. It definitely wouldn’t be done as quickly or as cheap as mission was when you take into account it would be done with a full cast and crew and they all got to get paid this time round, he’s also at least 25plus years older when Hartnell played him during masterplan you do have is he still suitable to play him on screen?. Claudia grant can’t play Susan again on screen. I mean she’s 39. Even with that rouge one tech she’s far too old to play that role. So you do have to question that for Bradley. A cameo ala power of the doctor fine. But a full on adventure which is a lot more physically demanding. A recast would be better.

    Hi all,
Just received an update about my pre-order for this box set.
It seems that it has been delayed until 28th October.
I had mine on pre-order from HMV but I would imagine that most of the major retailers will be the same.

Does anyone know if and/or when this is coming to Australia? I’m always nervous these days and wondering if I should just bite the bullet and buy the UK release.

It’s up in the air really, Season 9 was said to be the last one Universal Sony would release, but they relented and released Seasons 20 and 15. Maybe they might do 25, they might not. If they do, expect to pay more for it as they keep raising the price each time they release a set.

We just won’t know until someone has one in hand. The size of the packaging is variable with some 8 disc sets fitting in DW4 and some fitting DW2.

Even within a single release the size can be variable depending on production. For example, some of the S2 sets had wider spines, so Steelbook Central created the DW3 size to fit, whereas mine fits (snugly) into the DW2.

I’ve just watched the doctor who/Blake’s 7 crossover (sort of) shakedown on DVD. Starring various who and Blake’s 7 actors and written by Terrance dicks himself it’s great fun and looks pretty good considering the budget. Been after it on DVD for 24 years. Eventually had to get a custom version but it’s perfectly watchable. Done using the 1996 VHS version featuring the making of it’s obviously VHS quality meaning it’s subject to faults and fault lines throughout the source material but frankly I’ll take the rough quality just to finally have a copy again until someone pulls their finger out and gets it released officially.
