Should have got my copy today from Amazon, but now says ‘not yet dispatched ‘. Clearly they don’t have the stock at the moment. I’m not too worried though. It’s not a limited edition release thankfully.

Peter Crocker just posted this on twitter:

Does anyone out there in Twitterland have an off-air video tape (or copy no more than a generation down) of Lalla Ward on Multi-Coloured Swap Shop from 29/12/79? I know about the YouTube copy but that’s bobbins.

Season 17 has basically been announced so hopefully the boxset and special features with the teaser trailer can happen very soon

    • Timelord 1944

      September 14th, 2021 - 3:39pm

Well that’s going to take time so maybe we will be waiting until early next year.

    • D84

      September 14th, 2021 - 5:19pm

Regardless of if or when it gets announced, I think we all know we can take the release date and + 4 weeks for a realistic date when it will arrive on our doorstep

    • Gordon

      September 14th, 2021 - 6:29pm

It’s definitely season 17 related. I do feel an announcement is a quite possibly a couple of weeks away though. Chris chapman just finished filming something last week and Matthew sweet was filming an in conversation with someone on Sunday which may or may not be for season 17. The swap shop piece that he’s looking for isn’t a long piece so it wouldn’t take that long to digitise if a better version turns up. It could be the last thing he is working on for this set

    • Auton

      September 14th, 2021 - 6:59pm

Chris chapman has been mention many things he’s been filming over the last few months so I think that everything for season 17 has been filmed and most of the things for the set after as well. I doubt the in conversation is for season 17 as it won’t be Lalla ward as she is living in Hong Kong and Tom Baker already has an in conversation. Sadly the script editor and producer have died so there is no one to do an in conversation. So with that I think the in conversation is for a future set perhaps the one after season 16 or maybe it’s an in conversation with Colin Baker. The thing they recorded with lalla a few years ago might be an in conversation or interviews with her for the many making ofs needed for season 17

    • Tom Williams

      September 14th, 2021 - 8:41pm

Seen on Blu-ray.com this is coming out in December so take it when this happens it be on preorder next week ?

    • Gordon

      September 14th, 2021 - 9:02pm

Some of the things he’s been doing might not be for the collection sets. The photo of someone that looks very much like him taking equipment down at Nant Ffrancon Pass which suggests he’s also been filming for abominable snowman. He’s also filmed a looking for and when it was mentioned about which season it was his response was “who said it was for a season?” Which suggests it might not be for a collection set. Some of the interviews for the web of fear documentary was filmed 3-4 months before release so filming things this close to release wouldn’t be unprecedented

I was thinking Bob baker is a possibility for a conversation for season 17 if lalla isn’t available. He’s had a very interesting career and if it includes his non who stuff as well it could prove a fascinating conversation.

The thing that lalla did before she left was a commentary for city of death according to catherine schell so I don’t think she will be getting a conversation.

    • Gordon

      September 14th, 2021 - 10:50pm

@tom Williams the date blu ray.com given is based off a Swiss preorder website. Until the bbc confirms it themselves I wouldn’t say that date is a certainly. Hmv had dates up for season 10, 23 and 14 before they were officially announced and all 3 were wrong

    • Auton

      September 15th, 2021 - 7:17am

Bob Baker would be very interesting but won’t it be similar to the interview with him On Nightmare of Eden. Ik it’s just about him writing for nightmare and it’s a short interview but they might think everything has been covered.

    • Prowl 1701

      September 11th, 2021 - 7:26pm

And that could very well be what happens. Or they may save it for a wilderness years set as many versions of shada came out in that time.

    • Gordon

      September 11th, 2021 - 8:15pm

I do think it’s worth pointing out that anyone that is a member of the blu ray . Com forum can add or edit the information for any of the releases so I wouldn’t take this as a gospel confirmation that Shada isn’t being included

    • Gordon

      September 11th, 2021 - 8:46pm

To show how easy it is for anyone to edit it I changed it to include shada and it’s now there listed with the other stories. I’m sure it will be included anyway

Seen a post on Facebook from someone who met colin baker at whoovervile and he said he has done behind the sofa for season 17. He also said he was offered an interview in Spain for presumably 2 doctors but no mention of when he was offered or if he accepted it

I wonder who he did the behind the sofa with, I guess we will hopefully find out soon. It’s probably sensible that he refused the interview in Spain but it’s good their thinking about about season 22 but I think they should save season 22 for later or something or do all the interviews in studio and send a cameraman to do a now and then and put them together to make a making of

    • Lege

      September 7th, 2021 - 10:44am

From what I can understand Colin is not very well at the moment. Hence them trying to get all they can with Colin in the can. Or at least that is what my source tells me. However I’m hoping that they are wrong. Because I don’t want anything to happen to Colin he is amazing.

    • Gordon

      September 7th, 2021 - 11:59am

To be honest I’m not surprised he turned it down. He is 78 after all plus despite us getting on with it Covid is still going to be an issue for a while yet. I have also heard rumours about his health and what he maybe suffering from but I really don’t like speculating on that. If it is what I’ve heard I can see why they would want to get him in while he’s still physically and mentally able to do things.

    • Auton

      September 7th, 2021 - 1:00pm

Well I hope he Is alright and it’s nothing too serious. We are rather lucky that Colin is In all the commentaries for his stories and most of his stories have making ofs. Only the Two doctors and the twin dilemma Need a making of but they can easily do both in studio and anyone who wants to go to Spain can André if not they can just do a now and then with the spainish locations. The only other thing they need to do with Colin is an in conversation as they are always interesting and Colin is amazing

This news on here has really upset me as he is a gentleman and wonderful advocate for the series. I noted a tremor on one of the behind the sofas on trial and his voice is quite changed in the recent audio clip for the eleven I heard recently. I love him and I wish him well. I just hope he is ok

I was thinking … how cool it would be if they did another special edition of The Five Doctors with new animations that focus on the fourth doctor, with Tom Baker and Lalla Ward recording the dialogue. I know it will probably never happen, but I think it would be great to see it!

I will be buying this. Much prefer the standard editions. I’ve always liked ‘The Trial of a Time Lord’ too. A 14 part epic was the best way to end the era of the Sixth Doctor, even though that wasn’t the original intention. ‘The Ultimate Foe’ is a great finale. Robert Holmes part 13 is near perfect, plus Pip and Jane Baker’s part 14 has several great moments and is a remarkable achievement considering the chaos behind the scenes, and the very short amount of time they had to write a replacement part 14 !

I will continue with the limited edition box sets as got 7 of them. Most likely with the standard ones like normal releases staying on the shelves, will get these too later down the line. As they will be reduced in price like any release. Yes this will be a long way off I know.

Plus maybe even a newer version done years away: Doctor box sets. Full Doctor Box sets with all episodes from each Doctor in a Box Set.

I can’t see fans paying several hundred quid per boxset, particularly for episodes they likely already own. And think of all those discs! No, I can’t see that happening.

    • Gordon

      September 3rd, 2021 - 2:57pm

It’s already down to about £30 for the standard versions in cex. I’m sure it will be £20 within a year or so.

As for complete doctor sets. I can see it happening. They could even do a just the show’s type approach which would cut the disc amount down if they ram the discs with as much eps as possible. Even though a lot of fans already have the episodes there are always new fans being introduced to the show and a cut down price point may appeal for those that don’t know where to start in the classic series.

    • RPG74

      September 3rd, 2021 - 5:10pm

Oh sure, if they dump the special features and do episodes only, that might work. Roughly 10 hours of SD quality video on a standard blu ray disc would mean about 7 discs to get through all of Tom’s era, if I’m not mistaken. I’d still expect the Beeb to charge a pretty penny for it though, as why wouldn’t they?

What was the other rumour about Galaxy 4 ??

    • scotel

      September 3rd, 2021 - 1:55pm

There were signs from the leaked CV that it was a lot further along than we thought. Maybe because it’s a traditional animation they were able to do it simultaneously with Web (using a different team of animators)?

    • Auton

      September 3rd, 2021 - 2:26pm

The rumour was that episode 4 of galaxy 4 had been found as well as episode 3 of the celestial toymaker. That might explain the fast turn around with galaxy 4 being only 2 months away even though it hasn’t been announced. Its only a rumour but the rumour started a month or two ago so just before galaxy was rumoured to be animated

    • Gordon

      September 3rd, 2021 - 2:49pm

Shapeshifter studios website had a listing on their portfolio for galaxy 4 with a 2020 date which suggests they have been working on it since last year. It may have not been announced but that doesn’t mean it hasn’t been in the works for a while. Also the daily mirror article that mentioned all 4 episodes are being animated so even if an episode has been found it appears they are still planning on animating the whole thing

    • Dalek Eye Stalk

      September 3rd, 2021 - 2:50pm

Where does this rumour come from? If two episode’s have been recovered (and I’m not so convinced that they have), then surely these would be from a private collector.

    • Auton

      September 3rd, 2021 - 3:43pm

It’s rumoured those two are the two that Paul vanezis mentioned so yes they are from a private collector

    • Jay John

      September 3rd, 2021 - 11:56pm

That rumour is from long before that, 2017 I think.

Someone posted something about 2 Hartnells being found on the Missing Episodes forum and eventually revealed it was those two, Vanezis, I recall, went on a rant and banned him from the forum.

Forward a few years, when Vanezis talked about those 2 Hartnells and one being from the Australian returns and other not, people linked those two things since they match.

    • Auton

      September 4th, 2021 - 7:39am

I too am taking the rumour with a pinch of salt but it might explain why it hasn’t been announced even though it’s being planned to release in November because as soon as it is announced everyone would want it due to episode 4 being found so they don’t want to announce it too soon or something. Probably being hopefully but it makes sense.

    • Robert Watkins

      September 4th, 2021 - 10:05am

There are two cans labelled Doctor Who in possession of a private collector. Paul has been and seen the cans and what is on the labels but the person wouldn’t let Paul take them away to copy. Paul didn’t want them played due to the age at the collectors home.

I doubt we will ever know or see them unless the collector has a change of heart

    • Gordon

      September 4th, 2021 - 10:58am

Wasn’t 1 of the reasons why he wouldn’t let paul copy it was because “he had bigger fish to fry? Or was that something else. It would suggest the person has plans on trading it for something bigger. The thing might not be who related though. From what I gather the person that has it isn’t really much of a who fan.

      September 2nd, 2021 - 5:08pm

City of death aside I don’t think it’s a particular strong season. Probably 1 of my least favourites but bring it on. City of death is amazing. Shada is good 4 parter shame it’s disguised as a 6 parter. Nightmare on Eden is a bit of a guilty pleasure and a lot of fun. Creature from the pit is a bit naff and I simply can’t stand horns of nimon. Really dull and awful in places. Not even Tom could save this 1. . Plus I can’t stand Graeme crowden in this. Hammier than a room full of ham and so ridiculously over the top. His performance is one of the most hammy in who history. At least the new extras should be good. Destiny, pit and nimon actually don’t have any making of plus Tom wasn’t really involved with any of the dvd extras aside from shada. This would give them a chance readdress the balance. Looking forward to picking it up

    • The ergon

      September 2nd, 2021 - 7:03pm

I disagree with you about horns gordon. Yes some of the performances especially crowdens are panto of the highest order but all the funnier for it and there is a good streak of humour running through the entire season which really helps when a lot of the production values are really quite low.

      September 2nd, 2021 - 8:46pm

    • Auton

      September 2nd, 2021 - 10:46pm

Season 17 is one if my favourite seasons. City of death is amazing and nightmare of Eden is a guilty pleasure for me. Destiny, horns and shada are great as well. I haven’t watched creature from the pit for a while now so it will be interesting to see if I like it or not. Hopefully the earlier recording with lalla ward before moving to Hong Kong was for an in conversation or for some of the making ofs that are missing for this season. Destiny and horns definitely need a making of and a proper making of for nightmare and creature would be great as well. There was a rumour that city of death was getting a new making of so that would be great. Hopefully more studio footage can be recovered from the surviving tapes of city and it would also be great if they can turn the shada animation into episodic format how it would of originally been broadcast if it was finished

It will be worth it for a newly restored ‘City of Death’ with all the location film recording that could look beautiful on blu ray

The Paul McGann Shada has the cliffhangers that should be included

Yea but the Paul Mcgann one doesn’t have Tom Baker in it so the shada 2017 animation one is more of a definitive and accurate version of shada so it would be nice to have it turned into the 6 parter that I was supposed to be broadcast as if it had been finished. It will make even more accurate

So if this is the October release and going by the schedule with 1 release slot a month so probably expect series 13 and a collection set to round the year off

Depending which month series 13 starts and they usually get the preorders in beforehand. If it is october and theres a new limited announcement they could easily squeeze season 26 in december and then there may be the single new year special release for the new year. It depends when they release the next Limited Edition.

It’s rumoured to start October 10 which would leave a November 14th finish. Just enough time to get it out in December

Do we know any more about if New Who will appear in The Collection range eventually? I really hope they do include it.

Nothing new. I expect any announcement Is a few years off though

I would expect that if they get to include the new Who releases they’re likely to be used to space out the 60s releases. It would make sense to me for those to wait on the animations for missing episodes and a decent period of time for the single animation release to make some money before double dipping with the Collection boxset.

Pure speculation on my part, of course.

I thought you meant Classic Who when you said series 13 I would not argue with that coming out!

Think they are starting to space them out to give gaps between releases

I,d be happy if they could get 26, 8,14 and 24 spaced out by a few months inbetween each and any exclusive limited edition could get say a 6 month+ head start.

£44.99? The price has jumped by £7 and is now the same price as the larger limited editions. Disgusting profiteering

Amazon have the price wrong, should be £37.99, hopefully they will correct it soon (those who ordered always get charged the lowers price)

Great news for anyone who hasn’t got this yet. Do you think that the rumours about season 22 might have been mistaking this standard release?

I don’t mind rumours about 22 being wrong it’s arguably the worst of rhe remaining series to be released

Could be but 42 to doomsday (where on twitter the rumour originated) seems to think that it’s happening soon
