    Any thoughts on 2023 Collections?

Season 20 *must surely* be a definite.

Season 9, given the Katy Manning mentions this Year.

(My selfish choice would be Season 3)

Season 3 is very unlikely but would love it to happen soon. A Tom is due maybe 15 or 16. And a Troughton most likely 6

Many thanks for the reply Auton. Ideally I would just have The Collection purely focus on the 1960’s seasons, since there’s no playthrough reference of pretty much all the missing non-animated episodes.

Season 1 is mostly dvd. Marco Polo is now much better to watch thanks to Loose Cannon’s version 2 of recent.

Season 3 I’ve no doubt must be the steepest uphill – but that final part of The Dalek’s Master Plan will be worth it. Even in telesnap form it’s outstanding. Too good to do last of the entire Collection.

Season 4, I guess would be second most difficult, but again the runner up season in desperate need of restoring.

Season 5, thankfully the audio has all been re released with animation, so I assume all it needs is telesnaps at highest quality.

Season 6, is odd because it doesn’t really have any telesnaps, so would require YouTube-Josh-Snares level of photoshopping. It’s absolutely a doable option since the fans are already doing it.

This will be the first standard release that I will be waiting for the price to come down under £30, as it’s a dreadful season

Plus the new special features are all well worth it

      November 17th, 2022 - 8:41pm

I’ve deliberately waited for this standard edition of Season 24 to come out, rather than get the limited edison version, and I’m going to wait further for it to drop in price.

      November 17th, 2022 - 9:01pm

The extras package is worth the price alone. Optional Extended edits of every episode. 25 hours of behind the scenes footage. 5.1 mixes on both broadcast and extended episodes. Behind the sofa on all 4 stories. I’m conversation with Sylvester McCoy. The doctor’s table. New making of for delta and the bannerman and a season 24 overview. Over 4000 pages of pdf files. Not forgetting all the original dvd extras. About 60 hours worth of content in total including commentaries

Sorry, I meant ‘edition’, not ‘edison’!

Agreed Gordon, the extra material is exhaustive and quite wonderful. I watched hours of footage of Paradise Towers being filmed. Fascinating stuff.

I absolutely loathed what I saw of this series at the time (which was admittedly was not much), but have come to enjoy some aspects as time has gone on and as others have said the extras are always more than worth the price.

Even on the not-so-great series sets there is so much that is fascinating! We truly are completely spoiled with all the work that goes into these. As Gordon mentions, the sheer volume of PDF reference material on its own is astounding! I hope the revived series can get a similar treatment…eventually.

So season 17 standard should be around next september Gordon?

    • Auton

      November 20th, 2022 - 4:57pm

I’m not Gordon but I think the standard version of season 17 will be way sooner than September next year especially how soon season 24 standard release was announced

    • the ergon

      November 20th, 2022 - 6:51pm

I,m not sure Auton. “24 isn,t until February and September tallies in with the 2 year gap between the limited and standard releases.

      November 20th, 2022 - 8:00pm

I would agree, it’s usually around a 2yr gap between Limited Edition and Standard versions so I would expect S17 standard edition next autumn / early winter

    • Gordon

      November 22nd, 2022 - 2:36am

I think September ish time looks about right. The gap seems to be about 21 months now

The only one not to sell out … season 17 released 6 months later has sold out Surprised they didn’t skip ahead to 17 they must have given up on shifting the rest of the stock unless season 25 is imminent next year

      November 20th, 2022 - 8:10pm

Looks like this one has actually sold out via Amazon now – which I am very happy to see (means it’s done better than we all expected)

They do still have a listing for it but it’s via a 3rd party seller

      Happy days

I think it’s worth pointing out that this (to my knowledge) is the first Re-release to be announced while the current limited edition copy is still available to buy on Amazon and other retailers

I think you are correct. This release makes no economic sense though given the price differential between the limited Edition and standard is only £10 or so. If it was a bigger margin then yes. But why release something in one format when the original is still readily available. I get that some people are completists and the demand is probably there for the standard but Overall I think most people that buy these will buy whatever comes out first.
