The 14th Doctor’s Sonic Screwdriver Chrome Edition

Please be aware that counterfeit Sonic Screwdrivers are being sold on online market places.

The Fourteenth Doctor’s essential accessory is available now as an online exclusive!

Character Options is delighted to announce a brand-new exclusive for its iconic Doctor Who Collection, as the Fourteenth Doctor’s Sonic Screwdriver.

Heading into the 60th Year of Doctor Who it seemed entirely fitting that the Fourteenth Doctors Sonic Screwdriver was given an exciting exclusive unveiling to fans on the Doctor Who Booth at the San Deigo Show!

The limited-edition version boasts an exclusive ‘electro plated’ finish making it look like real polished steel and brass. It also boasts two modes of operation, Open and Closed, as well as five brand new and totally unique sound and light effects, with each accessed by a different button sequence. The Sonic comes in Regeneration style packaging with a sturdy mailer box.

Ensuring all fans have the chance to own this special piece, Character Options is delighted to confirm the latest Online Exclusive and for this Anniversary year, is this very same Special Edition of the Fourteenth Doctor’s new sonic device and is available for sale and immediate delivery now.

Al Dewar, Head of Product Development, commented: “Since the announcement of David Tennant’s return as the Fourteenth Doctor, I think it’s safe to say fans have been a wee bit keen to know much more about this as yet unseen iteration of the Sonic. Its look and function have been (rightly) entirely shrouded in mystery, and now with this Doctor’s essential accessory is officially unveiled, it’s a pure delight for us to confirm that in partnership with the BBC and Wolf Studios, we have been able to produce a really different and special version of this absolutely beautiful sonic.

“Having it ready for the start of the new series, I think is a genuine first in our history with the Doctor Who Brand and once again it’s with huge thanks to all involved that we’ve been able to achieve this.”

I’ve got to be honest here, the design looks really lazy…. It’s literally a mash-up of 9 & 10’s, a bit of 11’s and the bottom bit is literally the bottom of the Master’s Laser Screwdriver.

Nothing against the design team that probably spent a while trying to create something new for the 60th, but just in my opinion, I’d rather spend £30 on a new figure set of characters we haven’t gotten yet.

It’s ideal for cos-players though, so that’s great for them

Yeah, this is exactly how I feel. Maybe they are trying to do it as a ‘celebration’ of all the past designs but idk. It just looks weird to me.

One could argue the whole premise of the 60th is “lazy”, to them I say…………..humbug!

The design of the sonic screwdriver was almost constant from 1970- 2004 save for a little bit of yellow on 3’s, then silver and red on 4/5, then all silver for Mcgann but the overall shape was IDENTICAL. 9/10’s was identical and 11’s was a total redesign as was 12’s & 13;s (which everyone hated!), The war doctors was literally 3-8’s with the head taken off and pointed like the “wand” it has become. So realistically we have only had 6 and a half actual different screw drivers.

It is entirely fitting that the 14th Doctors screwdriver would be a touch of history with a new casing – just like 14s face and attire is recognisable but not right at the same time.

Lets just enjoy what we get eh? We haven’t had a new sonic in 5 years, like 14, it will be a fleeting visit and then the 15th doctor will come and no doubt a new screwdriver will come, thus also the reason to use existing elements then really go for it with the new designs.

Honestly, we complain when we get nothing, then complain when we get something!

To add to the previous anon’s point, Pertwee only had the yellow stripy variation in a couple of stories before he changed it to the “Tom Baker” version in Frontier in Space. I actually believe we saw him use that version of the sonic more than we did the one that’s so heavily associated with him

I don’t mind the fact that they reused old parts for it, it’s more the WAY they reused the old parts. The result here just looks too mix and matchy to me, like one of those ‘Build Your Own Sonic Screwdriver’ kits from a few years ago. But not in a hybrid kind of way like the War Doctors Sonic. This looks TOO mix and matchy, like they just cut off a fifth of every modern sonic and stitched it together. The proportions just don’t look right to me (of course that’s just my opinion though).

Happy to get mine at 9:45 this morning, though I do wonder how “Limited” this sonic will actually be. Will look forward to seeing the difference between this and the general release one as the main difference between this and the general release will be that version will be matt-silver/grey rather than chrome Character one.

This is unrelated, but do you think we could get a 18 Doctors figure set by the end of the year that would come with Doctors 1 through 15 and the Fugitive, War and the two Curators?

  • Pupbenni

    July 20th, 2023 - 1:25pm

The fact they’re marketing this as the ‘14th Doctors’ makes me think Ncuti might get his own (which, for some reason, I imagine being purple for a change). Which would mean this one would only be used this year. I might be wrong of course, but it’s just interesting trying to consider it.

Personally, I’m just not a fan of this design. It looks like it was inspired by the ‘Build Your Own Sonic Screwdriver’ kits lol. For £30 I find it difficult to justify getting something that’ll just spend it’s life tucked away somewhere like the rest of my sonics.

Its 5 years later and Jodies screwdriver is on amazon at £29.99 so quote a reasonable price, especially for the L.E elements and the electronics in it

    • daz

      July 20th, 2023 - 6:14pm

Will Ncuti have a sonic? He’s not been snapped with one in any photos leaked of Series 14 which is surprising.

If he does it will no doubt be the same as 14’s. I think it is the packaging with 60 Years logo and stating 14th Doctor that has made it a limited edition, and not just the more realistic chrome.
