We were curious what the lights on the top of the public call boxes the TARDIS’s design was based off of were there for. Apparently they originally lit up red to indicate to a policeman assigned to the area that his assistance was requested. They could be lit up by a member of the public or remotely by the station, which is pretty cool.

The lamp on top of this TARDIS headband stays lit, which we think must imply that you’re seeking assistance instead of traveling through time and space.
