Just pre-ordered this! Something really draws me towards it. I love the new colour after all these years of that dull grey, and it finally has the yellow wires!!! I only have the End of Time one with the purple UV light, so I’m glad I waited for this one before I got the wave 2 release. Great to add to Day of the Doctor merchandise aswell.

I wonder if this is a continuation of a Day of the Doctor range from Character? We’ve had the War Doctor’s sonic screwdriver and the War Doctor figure. We’re also getting the Tenth Doctor’s sonic screwdriver.

Would it be unreasonable to predict a Tenth Doctor figure, as well as a sonic screwdriver and figure from the Eleventh Doctor?

You know, I don’t at all doubt that Character will re-release all existing products to do with the 50th with just a few minor tweaks and new packaging. Well… at least it’s all reasonable quality.

Reminds me of my good old Eccleston Screwdriver.
This is staying in the box and sitting with the War Doctor and his screwdriver

It’s a replica of a replica that was inaccurate in the 1st place. How strange it’ll fold in on itself and implode!

Nope not this yellow or yellow wire. It has always been black until now. 1st edition was very light pink then a cream before the grey. This banana yellow is totally new.

Well I am liking the look of the Sonic Screwdriver that David Tennant used in The Day of The Doctor and plus who cares if it is different than the other one that he has used throughout his time as The Tenth Doctor the only difference tae this one is the body colour but tae me it is still the same old reliable Sonic Screwdriver

Beats a grey body I suppose! 🙂 You all are complaining about too much, as long as it’s a Blue LED (as pictured) with the 2 default sfx i’m perfectly happy! All there’s to do is just use s felt tip or shoe polish to rub into the body for a more crackled effect. And hey, at least this time CO has got something right! The yellow wires going as apposed to a (presumebly) cheaper black.

      It’s actually really nice-the moment I saw it I thought YAY :D!

My old 10s Sonic broke years ago, and I’ve been meaning to get another since-I almost got one of the re-releases. However, I’m glad I’ve waited because this is tons better 😀

Because the war doctor sonic was released for the excel convention for the 50th so they wanted to make as much money as possible off one product.

The yellow wire needs to be thick so the current of electricity can get to the light at the top by adding small wires in the yellow piece

      June 7th, 2014 - 10:27am

The 10th doctors universal remote had a very thin yellow wire, but I think it would cost more to do, as you’d have to get a thinner wire and a stronger LED, and for a £10 product they won’t use very expensive components

Still buttons on the side, I would have prefered it to have the mid button like the replica, that would make it awsome.

No, not that bit, the bit under the LED, shouldn’t it be a rusted bronze/gold??

    • Dr who Fan prop maker

      June 7th, 2014 - 9:37pm

Ok, this was not nines, it was a replica of tens, he gave his existing sonic to the wand company to make the remote, the ninth doctors sonic was only used in series 3 but had yellow wires and a grey paint instead of the first version with colony cream plastikote and red and black wires, if it was nines (aztec) how would it extend, cause that sonic only had different sonics in different positions, unless you are talking about the wide slider sonic, but that was destroyed, this was an mix and was even said that he used the 4 given to him by Neil.

    • Dr who Fan prop maker

      June 7th, 2014 - 9:38pm

Oh he, the aztec was first used in series 1 then again in series 3 but that was a total remake as the aztec was converted into the wide slider

    • Tardis’nt

      June 10th, 2014 - 8:35pm

ok, but why is 9’s called the Aztec?

    • Dr who Fan prop maker

      July 8th, 2014 - 9:17am

the aztec has found of to be called that as a nickname as the company was called aztec props, also it has been found to extend by pulling the head to the position chris wanted it to be in

Slow down I still need to get the war doctor sonic 😆 I will definitely get this though.
It’s good that it’s different from previous releases of this sonic but I really don’t like it. The colours don’t compliment each other, making it look rushed and I didn’t even notice it looked like this in the 50th or anytime during the 10th doctors reign. But I do love the packaging.

    • Trenzalore

      June 6th, 2014 - 3:46pm

So the 10th doctor had 2 Sonic’s in his time; this one and the one he had up to 2010? Or were the other sonic models released just wrong?

  • Jon Thomson

    June 6th, 2014 - 2:54pm

This is completely inaccurate. The sonic David Tennant used in the ‘The Day Of The Doctor’ was one of the more robust Ninth Doctor’s Aztec sonics. The reason behind this was because David had a tendency to break his prop sonics during his tenure as the doctor & the only one left in existence is the one he was given as a gift when he left the show. He lent it to The Wand Company so they could make a 3-D copy for their universal remote but there was no chance he was going to use it during the filming of the 50th.

No it wasn’t an Aztec. It was an MFX replica supplied by Neill Gorton. Neill said so himself and the inaccurate colour also proves it. For the record DT Never used the Aztec (non slider version) while he was the Dr. Please have a look online as details are there by people better equipped with the knowledge than I. As for this version, not sure why theyve made it or who it’s aimed at as there are plenty of CO versions still kicking about and if you want ‘high end’ Sonics, I’m sure the Celestial Toy store & The Wand Co fill that gap!

    • Jon Thomson

      June 6th, 2014 - 7:14pm

To be perfectly honest, I’m extremely surprised that this has been brought out. Don’t get me wrong-I really love the new yellow colour and all, it’s just a bit odd that they actually released it again in my opnion. Therefore, I suppose that anything is possible. David Tennant was given the actual prop that was used in his final series but he didn’t use that for the 50th. He used the mfx replica, which is what this is supposed to look like. So this is a replica of a replica . . . .
