This is the only steelbook cover that I haven’t liked. Never liked Vincent van gogh’s work, and this definitely tries to copy his style.

Although not keen on the Shada steelbook either. Too stylised for me.

If it had been under £20, I might have gone for it. Been spending a little too much money this month. So I’ll pass on this one.

I’m no fan of the Moffat years, this is the only series of his I do not mind that much and its down to 17 quid on Amazon, shall I?

Moffat’s era for me is hit and miss. But Series 5 is my favourite of new who!
It’s a gorgeous steelbook and at that price it’s an absolute steal!

      Thanks my friend

      I’ve done it!

For 17 squid has to be done, limited edition and all!

Everyone has different views on the different eras and that is the beauty of Doctor Who I personally loved how this one started, The Eleventh Hour and Beast Below encapsulated the spirit of the original show. Amy’s Choice and Vincent and the Doctor also were strong efforts. The series finale and everything which followed was too much for me and I personally felt Matt Smith started to ham up the performance far too much. The Calpadi ones were a little more refined but Moffat’s role as a show runner and putting trying to be too clever with time travel and paradoxes got massively in the way of classic story telling.

But that’s just me, I personally love both Chris Chibnall series and can’t stand reading all the childish vile abuse he and Jodie Whittaker get in some dark corners of cyberland. I think 11 in particular it’s the closest to the Hartnell years
I’m waiting for series 12 to come down in price

There’s nearly 60 years of stuff to enjoy not everyone likes the same ones

Lol Moffat is my favourite show runner because he gave us Capaldi, not a big fan of the most recent 2 series but like you say, it’s down to taste

    • Bobby Fackrell

      May 10th, 2020 - 6:51pm

      Are you including Philip Hinchcliffe?

    • Anonymous

      May 10th, 2020 - 8:14pm

I meant of the modern era, I still curse mary Whitehouse for convincing the BBC that hinchcliffes era was too dark for children as I’m not the biggest fan of the Graham Williams era, especially when compared to hinchcliffe

    • Bobby Fackrell

      May 10th, 2020 - 9:18pm

So true, Philip was very gracias in his interview but he knew was ousted because of Mary.

He and Holmes should have stayed another year and they and Tom should have gone at the same time. I always felt as good as 12 was it was largely inherited by Barry Letts which is why 13 and 14 are true classics, it never felt like they had three full years

Hinchcliffe’s removal started a chain reaction of events which led to the slow painful death of classic Who.

Its ironic, Peter Purves was amazed by Tom Baker’s performance in Behind the Sofa on 14 particularly how he underplayed the role. He says he always thought Tom played it over the top, it would be interesting giving him series 17 to watch

Back to 5 I’m watching it now, I think The Beast Below was Moffat’s last great episode

Tbh I love a lot of Moffat work post beast below, his only stories I have issues with are the series 5 and 6 finales, let’s kill hitler, the doctor, the widow and the wardrobe, asylum of the daleks, magicians apprentice, hell bent and twice upon a time, a lot of the time for reasons of characterisation of his characters, but I do love the majority of his work and heaven sent and world enough and time/the doctor falls are some of my favourite stories of all time, with the latter being my favourite modern series finale

    • Bobby Fackrell

      May 10th, 2020 - 9:37pm

Victory of the Daleks now, same issues are Daleks in Manhatten this one

You cannot remake The Power of the Daleks and The Evil of the Daleks without Patrick Troughton and David Whittaker!

Does anyone know if they’ll release series 1,2,3 again but with the current logo and also 11 without the horrible art and with actually good art because I love most of them but I’d just be triggered with 3 of 12 series with the wrong logo if they also re release 9 10 and 11

Got this set and so happy that the next time trailers have been restored finally.

Only one issue and that is that on the card slipcover, it says that Steven Moffat wrote all of the episodes and it lists the directors of the 2009 specials rather than the directors who actually directed Series 5… the content on the discs though has no issues as far as I am aware

      February 6th, 2020 - 2:00pm

Next time trailers have been added. The video commentaries have been switched to just audio

    • When The Doctor Was Me

      February 6th, 2020 - 3:33pm

I’ve bit the bullet and ordered. It’s my favourite series of the show, along with reduced discs. Which might suggest different disc art. Stunning packaging and my favourite Doctor. Might pick ip a steelbook frame and keep it protected instead of viewing.
Man being a collector is expensive!

Mine arrived this morning! It’s the same content as previous, but only over 4 discs instead of the previous 6. The first disc has 4 episodes rather than split across 2 discs as in the first release, for example.

So a a new AVC version then (unless the retailers have made a mistake) as the 2010 release was 6 discs and VC1.

    • The Flying Shark

      December 17th, 2019 - 7:44am

Fantastic! Is it likely Series 6 will be put on four discs if possible as well when that gets its steelbook, as that doesn’t need to be on six discs either , does it?

    • Rob W

      December 17th, 2019 - 10:08am

Series 6 was an AVC encode, so I think they’ll stick with the 6 discs mate.

Unless they use the 2013 USA masters which is 4 discs.
