Just bought today off eBay, thats 11 steelbooks and counting.
Not keen on this cover but trying to get most of the Dr Who steelbooks anyway.

This is the only steelbook cover that I haven’t liked. Never liked Vincent van gogh’s work, and this definitely tries to copy his style.

      September 1st, 2020 - 5:53pm

Although not keen on the Shada steelbook either. Too stylised for me.

If it had been under £20, I might have gone for it. Been spending a little too much money this month. So I’ll pass on this one.

I’m no fan of the Moffat years, this is the only series of his I do not mind that much and its down to 17 quid on Amazon, shall I?

Series 9? That’s an amazing series. My favourite moff one

      May 8th, 2020 - 10:18pm

Moffat’s era for me is hit and miss. But Series 5 is my favourite of new who!
It’s a gorgeous steelbook and at that price it’s an absolute steal!

      May 8th, 2020 - 10:59pm

      Thanks my friend

      I’ve done it!

For 17 squid has to be done, limited edition and all!

Everyone has different views on the different eras and that is the beauty of Doctor Who I personally loved how this one started, The Eleventh Hour and Beast Below encapsulated the spirit of the original show. Amy’s Choice and Vincent and the Doctor also were strong efforts. The series finale and everything which followed was too much for me and I personally felt Matt Smith started to ham up the performance far too much. The Calpadi ones were a little more refined but Moffat’s role as a show runner and putting trying to be too clever with time travel and paradoxes got massively in the way of classic story telling.

But that’s just me, I personally love both Chris Chibnall series and can’t stand reading all the childish vile abuse he and Jodie Whittaker get in some dark corners of cyberland. I think 11 in particular it’s the closest to the Hartnell years
I’m waiting for series 12 to come down in price

There’s nearly 60 years of stuff to enjoy not everyone likes the same ones

      May 10th, 2020 - 4:42pm

Got it in the end good move it was only 17 quid for one day!

Came today, beautiful steelbook glad I did it

      May 10th, 2020 - 5:48pm

Lol Moffat is my favourite show runner because he gave us Capaldi, not a big fan of the most recent 2 series but like you say, it’s down to taste

    • Bobby Fackrell

      May 10th, 2020 - 6:51pm

      Are you including Philip Hinchcliffe?

    • Anonymous

      May 10th, 2020 - 8:14pm

I meant of the modern era, I still curse mary Whitehouse for convincing the BBC that hinchcliffes era was too dark for children as I’m not the biggest fan of the Graham Williams era, especially when compared to hinchcliffe

    • Bobby Fackrell

      May 10th, 2020 - 9:18pm

So true, Philip was very gracias in his interview but he knew was ousted because of Mary.

He and Holmes should have stayed another year and they and Tom should have gone at the same time. I always felt as good as 12 was it was largely inherited by Barry Letts which is why 13 and 14 are true classics, it never felt like they had three full years

Hinchcliffe’s removal started a chain reaction of events which led to the slow painful death of classic Who.

Its ironic, Peter Purves was amazed by Tom Baker’s performance in Behind the Sofa on 14 particularly how he underplayed the role. He says he always thought Tom played it over the top, it would be interesting giving him series 17 to watch

Back to 5 I’m watching it now, I think The Beast Below was Moffat’s last great episode

      May 10th, 2020 - 9:35pm

Tbh I love a lot of Moffat work post beast below, his only stories I have issues with are the series 5 and 6 finales, let’s kill hitler, the doctor, the widow and the wardrobe, asylum of the daleks, magicians apprentice, hell bent and twice upon a time, a lot of the time for reasons of characterisation of his characters, but I do love the majority of his work and heaven sent and world enough and time/the doctor falls are some of my favourite stories of all time, with the latter being my favourite modern series finale

    • Bobby Fackrell

      May 10th, 2020 - 9:37pm

Victory of the Daleks now, same issues are Daleks in Manhatten this one

You cannot remake The Power of the Daleks and The Evil of the Daleks without Patrick Troughton and David Whittaker!

  • JL

    March 24th, 2020 - 6:42pm

Does anyone know if they’ll release series 1,2,3 again but with the current logo and also 11 without the horrible art and with actually good art because I love most of them but I’d just be triggered with 3 of 12 series with the wrong logo if they also re release 9 10 and 11

So Zoom have dispatched this and taken money but it doesn’t seem to have turned up yet and a lot of people has. Any recommendations?

      February 10th, 2020 - 10:34am

Today is release day. So I would recommend waiting until the end of the week. If it doesn’t show. Then contact Zoom.

    February 10th, 2020 - 12:29am

Got this set and so happy that the next time trailers have been restored finally.

Only one issue and that is that on the card slipcover, it says that Steven Moffat wrote all of the episodes and it lists the directors of the 2009 specials rather than the directors who actually directed Series 5… the content on the discs though has no issues as far as I am aware

    • Gordon

      February 10th, 2020 - 12:45am

Frame rate is 24fps Which means there is slowdown

    • Anonymous

      May 8th, 2020 - 12:48pm

Why do the HD era releases still contain slowdown?

  • Richard

    February 5th, 2020 - 5:30pm

Does this set contain any new content or is it just the same discs in new packaging?

    • Anonymous

      February 6th, 2020 - 11:26am

Was wondering the same! Does anyone know?

    • Anonymous

      February 6th, 2020 - 11:52am

      Same content new packaging

    • Richard

      February 6th, 2020 - 11:57am

Bit pointless then. I’ll just stick with watching them on iPlayer for now.

    • Gordon

      February 6th, 2020 - 2:00pm

Next time trailers have been added. The video commentaries have been switched to just audio

    • When The Doctor Was Me

      February 6th, 2020 - 3:33pm

I’ve bit the bullet and ordered. It’s my favourite series of the show, along with reduced discs. Which might suggest different disc art. Stunning packaging and my favourite Doctor. Might pick ip a steelbook frame and keep it protected instead of viewing.
Man being a collector is expensive!

    • MJS

      February 8th, 2020 - 10:40am

Mine arrived this morning! It’s the same content as previous, but only over 4 discs instead of the previous 6. The first disc has 4 episodes rather than split across 2 discs as in the first release, for example.

    • dazzleshell

      February 8th, 2020 - 1:21pm

      Mine arrived today too.
Lovely artwork. Looking forward to Series 6 and 7. Be interesting to see what they do for the 50th Collection.

    • When The Doctor Was Me

      February 10th, 2020 - 10:36am

Mine has arrived. Stunning! So happy I decided to purchase!
I’m definitely going to purchase a steelbook frame. Artwork like this deserves to be displayed!

  • Richard

    January 18th, 2020 - 1:09pm

Am I the only one thinking it would be better to wait and see if all the new Who seasons are released as part of THE COLLECTION in say 5 years time?

      January 18th, 2020 - 5:00pm

We could all be dead in five years. Live in the moment 🙂

    • Prowl 1701

I mostly buy them because I like the art on the steel books.

Preorder bargain for two pound less found on eBay for this just search in doctor who steelbook

  • Anonymous

    January 9th, 2020 - 7:41pm

I really hope down the line they do The 50th Specials steelbook but in 4K Blu Ray. Name, Day, and Time would look amazing in 4K

    • TrixieTiger1995

      January 9th, 2020 - 8:02pm

I find this very unlikely. If anything it would be an upscale and awful HDR.

    • Anonymous

      May 8th, 2020 - 1:38pm

Twice Upon a Time looked amazing upscaled to 4k with HDR so yes please

  • Star Lord

    December 17th, 2019 - 3:13pm

Anyone know of any discount codes for Zoom or Zavvi? : )

    • Bicky

      December 17th, 2019 - 3:19pm

Try SIGNUP10 for Zoom if you are a new customer for10% off.

    • Rob W

      December 17th, 2019 - 4:45pm

You now need to sign up for Zooms newsletter as the SIGNUP10 code was being re-used and they rectified this. The code will then be sent to you but cannot be re-used.

I hope this one, doesn’t get delayed.

    • Russell Sellers

      December 17th, 2019 - 6:33am

I don’t think any of the steelbooks have had any delays yet, so we should be good!

      December 17th, 2019 - 7:56am

      The specials did

    • Richard Turner

      December 17th, 2019 - 10:59am

Only to improve them from the original series releases. I’ll take that.

This looks amazing, but Rory’s face looks odd.

    • Darren

I think it’s been flipped the other way round

  • Prowl

    December 16th, 2019 - 10:49am

I like the starry night look it is taking. A good series to add to my DW steelbook collection. I do wish they would have just had villians on the back like the first 4 did though.

  • The Flying Shark

    December 16th, 2019 - 9:59am

I wonder if they’ll change the content on the discs? There’s no way this series needs to be on the six discs it’s already on, and could comfortably fit on four I think. Pretty please?

    • Anonymous

      December 16th, 2019 - 10:34am

      Retailers say it’s 4 discs

    • Rob W

      December 16th, 2019 - 3:06pm

So a a new AVC version then (unless the retailers have made a mistake) as the 2010 release was 6 discs and VC1.

    • The Flying Shark

      December 17th, 2019 - 7:44am

Fantastic! Is it likely Series 6 will be put on four discs if possible as well when that gets its steelbook, as that doesn’t need to be on six discs either , does it?

    • Rob W

      December 17th, 2019 - 10:08am

Series 6 was an AVC encode, so I think they’ll stick with the 6 discs mate.

    • Gordon

      December 17th, 2019 - 10:41am

Unless they use the 2013 USA masters which is 4 discs.

    • Rob W

      December 17th, 2019 - 11:37am

Could be, the 2013 USA version is AVC 1080p too.

  • MJS

    December 16th, 2019 - 9:39am

Aw no. I wasn’t going to buy this as I had the ltd ed season 5 Steelbook. But this is gorgeous. Now I must have it.

    • Mark C.

      December 16th, 2019 - 9:53am

Me too! I said to myself I’d stop with the specials steelbook as I already have series 5 onwards on blu-ray…but ‘WHO’ am I kidding? Pre-ordered.

    • Kevin

      January 18th, 2020 - 5:05pm

Looks like it. The episodes including Next Time trailers were all passed for release by the BBFC recently.
