Doctor Who Playstation 3 / Vita / PC Game

BBC Worldwide set to launch a major new Doctor Who gaming franchise

BBC Worldwide today released the first details of a major new gaming development for the Doctor Who brand. Doctor Who: The Eternity Clock will be the first of a series of Doctor Who console games developed by BBC Worldwide Digital Entertainment and Games marking a significant movement into gaming for this business. Two further Doctor Who console game titles are planned to follow this release with details to be announced next year. Doctor Who: The Eternity Clock is being created in full high definition for digital download platforms and is set for release in early 2012, initially on Playstation 3 ®; Playstation Vita ® and PC platforms.

Doctor Who: The Eternity Clock will immerse gamers in the universe of Doctor Who, allowing them to take on the role of the Doctor and River Song as they travel across time and space to save the Earth. Gamers must learn to master the complexities of time travel with exceptional time based game play, changes made in one time will impact another creating multiple possibilities and challenging players to solve puzzles across the centuries.

A wholly new storyline has been developed especially for this new Doctor Who console game franchise, written in collaboration with the BBC Wales team. Photo-real graphics, television quality scenes and highly realistic characters will bring the world of Doctor Who to life immersing fans completely in the twists and turns of an action filled plot. The stars of the series Matt Smith (the Doctor) and Alex Kingston (River Song) have recorded full voiceovers for their characters in Doctor Who: The Eternity Clock and motion capture has been used to create in-game characters that are incredibly realistic providing the ultimate Doctor Who gaming experience.

The game is being developed by Supermassive Games (www.supermassivegames.com), experienced Playstation and PC developers based in the UK who were a Develop Excellence Awards New Studio Finalist in 2011.

Robert Nashak, EVP of Digital Entertainment at BBC Worldwide said: “We’re creating these new games for Playstation 3 and Vita with adaptations that will bring the wonder, adventure and madness of Doctor Who to each platform. Working with a top-tier UK development partner like Supermassive Games demonstrates BBC Worldwide’s commitment to create world-class Doctor Who games for fans of the show and gamers alike.”

I love the idea but I always want my games to be the best quality possible. I have an xbox 360 and a wii and would love for it to come out on one of these in HD. Otherwise I will have to go for the PC version.

Personally, I love all of the Doctor Who games that have been released so far–can’tsay anything about the wii and DS games becuase they were never released in America( though the DS version works here)or the Top Trumps games. Still, all of the games have been creative and fun-The Mazes of Time and The Advenure Games.

According to the Developers Website, it’s for the PSNetwork. 🙁 I don’t use the PSN after the whole hacking problem before, so if this is true, then I will never be able to play it. 🙁

wait, does that mean you cant buy this in disc form at all?

I hope not, Scott. I prefer my games on disk.

Well, they sometimes offer a physical option for digital games (for example: Back to the Future the game). I really hope they do that for this, I personally hate digital media and want to add to my (physical) collection.

    • Hi

      December 10th, 2011 - 9:24am

Also the download games to me feel like mini games and not full games and they take up too much memory

Every one should email them to complain

    • Scott

      December 10th, 2011 - 10:01am

maybe we should but I doubt they will listen -_-

      December 10th, 2011 - 12:06pm

It’s worth a shot. Companies need to listen to their customers more. We can all get a product we love (An actual ‘DW: TEC’ retail release for PS3, PC & X-Box (for all XBox lovers out there).), & the companies make even more money as a result.

Basically a win-win situation if they actually decide to listen. 😐

      December 10th, 2011 - 12:23pm

I don’t think they’ll add another system to their release list though.

      December 12th, 2011 - 8:39pm

But if they did, then everyone would be happy.

It’s just annoying that they only seem to make the decent ‘Doctor Who’ games download only. Just take a look at ‘The Adventure Games’; the most entertaining ‘Doctor Who’ game to exist since… well, anything! Think how awesome they’d be on the PS3 or any other console that utilizes HD. 🙂

I wouldn’t have minded if they’d made those abominable Nintendo games downloadable, but this? What the heck is going on? 😕

I have both an Xbox 360 and a PS3, thus I am lucky enough to still play the game but I use my Xbox more than my PS3, so I would still have liked a Xbox version for convience, but I can still play it nonethless

I confess that I was really excited about this until I saw that River Song was part of it. I just can’t get past that.

It’s an odd choice to put such a polarizing character into the first of these endeavors.

I’m looking forward to the game! They’ve chosen the perfect time to bring it out too so yeah it looks good! Hopefully the game will look good visually and not look anything like “shudder” Return To Earth “shudder”. But it won’t…………..probably!

i know right!!! it should be released onto all platforms not just playstation and pc! for us HUGE DW fans who have Xboxs this is a knife in our backs seeing as we have all been waiting so long for a decent doctor who game on consoles and then it all goes to playstation!!! 😥 👿 🙄 😡

i think there should be a LEGO Doctor Who game! aswell!

    • tardistik

      December 9th, 2011 - 8:10pm

I’ve been saying that for ages LEGO Doctor Who would be brilliant but now Character Building has came out the likelihood of LEGO launching Doctor Who products is low. Unless Character Building would produce a console game there is hardly any chance 🙁
Oh well, at least we’ve got this now

      December 9th, 2011 - 8:14pm

My thoughts exactly – it’s on ps3, so why can’t it be on xbox? 🙁

    • Nicholas

      December 9th, 2011 - 8:51pm

it isn’t on xbox because the company that made it, specialises in exclusive ps3 games

Founded in 2008, we are an independent games developer based in Guildford in the south east of England, working on PlayStation-exclusive titles.

    • Adam

      December 11th, 2011 - 9:33am

Then why are they releasing this on PC if they do specilize games infact Microsoft made PC so an Xbox 360 release is SENSIBLE

    • GallifreyRules

      December 11th, 2011 - 2:49pm

Adam has made a good point, they must have consulted with Microsoft before announcing that there will be a PC version so an XBox release is still possibly in the pipelines.

I hope we get these on the Australian PSN though… we don't always get the full range of games. (Sigh).

The Vita is basically a psp as owen said, with a touch screen, more power and lots of other goodies.

Doctor Who lends itself well to the video game franchise actually, though we’ve never had a solid AAA* Doctor Who game before (still hoping for one eventually). These won’t be AAA titles by any means, but they should still be very good and fun to play.

*AAA just means a big budget commercial game.
