Missy (S9 Purple Outfit) Missy (The Master) is a Time Lady and like the Doctor, she’s from the planet Gallifrey in the constellation of Kasterborous. The two were friends in their youth and both chose to ignore their people’s policy of non-intervention with other species, but unlike the Doctor, Missy chose to travel the universe causing chaos and revelling in wickedness on an epic scale.

missy-series-9-box--figure7

Throughout all their encounters they usually showed a respect towards each other and on the occasions when they were forced to work as a team it was clear they made terrific allies. These two rogue Time Lords – so different but so very similar – facing the world on their terms with gusto and enormous talent.

S9 Purple outfit Missy is presented in Underground Toys collector box packaging.

    • Anonymous

No, it didn’t! It’s not particularly well packaged though as only one side is protected.

It is a good looking figure though, but I do prefer the darker purple version.

Is your figure intact? Was it just the box that was damaged?

    • Anonymous

      June 3rd, 2016 - 7:23pm

Just the back of the box. But I think the red on the scanner seem’s to be darker as well.

You should get them to replace it. You’ve paid for a mint figure.

Contacted them for a Return. It’s a Collector’s Figure for heaven’s sake! Why send me a damaged one? Plus, that’s not the first time they have done that either.

    • Greg

      June 3rd, 2016 - 11:52pm

It’s annoying, but at least they will sort the problem out.

But, yes – they should check for any damage before sending them out.

True & at least I will get a replacement. Other companies have often never replied to me or tried to fob me off.

I think he was speaking about the purple versions instead of the black because there are 3 missy figures in total but only two of them have different features. The series 9 missy is just a repainted purple missy figure whereas the black missy has much more noticeable differences such as head sculpt and minor dress differences. I agree with him because I prefer the purple sculpt but I can’t make a decision on the series 8 or series 9 purple missy figure because I don’t own the series 9 figure yet, but from the smaller extra details such as the pencil lining and it being from the magicians apprentice/witches familiar I think I will prefer this one.

It looks like dispatch emails are starting to be sent out. I just received my dispatch email this afternoon.

I’m really looking forward to receiving this figure. I know it’s not completely accurate, but we’re getting 5 inch figures again! I’m happy to buy these variants in the hope that it’ll help to get some exciting new figures (like the 8th doctor).

    Seriously, people!?
Does it have to be spelled out every damn time? Yes, Character re-release figures. They have to. Making sculpts for figures is incredibly expensive so they either have to release it once but make it super expensive or release it several times but at a smaller price. At least with this purple Missy, they have actually made changes to it. Many other re-releases are exactly the same. (the black Missy, Rose & K9, Police Amy, etc.) It’s all well and good for us to say, “ooh! Why don’t they make this character or that monster?” Probably because it’s far too expensive or doesn’t have re-release value. Making money from re-used sculpts is how they make money for new ones. Do you think we’d have got NotD 8th Doctor if they’d only done one 12th Doctor?

Thank you, just thank you, you have written the paragraph I couldn’t be bothered to write. They complain no matter what we get though, nothing is ever enough and it isn’t COs fault, they are trying to do what they can but as usual, then fans are ungrateful.

      May 31st, 2016 - 8:53am

But then if they were trying to make a “series 9” missy, they could of atleast put the head from the black dress version on it

    • booboo

      May 31st, 2016 - 8:58am

we dont know what happens behind the scenes

the head from the black one might have been in a different tooling block

some things are just not economically viable to do

making figures and swapping parts around is not as simple as some people think

I think they should’ve repainted the black dress varient, as then we could get the more accurate head sculpt, and the lapel piping would be more accurate, as if you look at her outfit from series 9, you’ll see that the lapel piping is thinner and less Victorian era, like on her black dress outfit… A tiny detail, but it would’ve looked a little more accurate!

Does she wear that hat in Series 9? I have a feeling she doesn’t. If it has been that body with the hat less head I might have been interested by I find CO so lazy and unimaginative. How many great monsters have there been over series 8 and 9 and where are those figures? If all they are going to release are tweaked figures perhaps they could get it right.

Tom would love a Fisher King figure. What a brilliant design! It would surely fly off the shelves! The monsters are surely the big sellers! But all we get are the people in silly numbers of variants and they are not being made because that’s what collectors want…..

The fact they did this gives me hope that they’ll do it for 12th Doctor too, because they’d be mad if didn’t, just paint his jacket his red, easy! And I wouldn’t be too fussed about him not coming with a waist coat, cause he did wear it without. And honestly, it didn’t bother me that he didn’t come with a waist coat on the original, though I did buy an extra and give him one…

What’s the point of character options doing an ‘online exclusive’ if they’re just going to release it anyway and at a cheaper price?

Talk about milking it for every penny.

Yes I realise it’s a different shade of purple! But so what! The black missy is identical and were supposed to be exclusive mail away only figures hence the £19.99 price tag!

    • Exterminator

      May 28th, 2016 - 10:44am

They’ll probably do it again with Bill now that we’ve seen her and the costume, what’s the betting character are already sculpting an ‘online exclusive’ figure!

    • Exterminator

      May 28th, 2016 - 10:47am

New figures and variants are always a good thing, but as a collector I like figures to be limited edition and rare. When they produce more of a particular figure it reduces the value of the original. Just look at the dalek collectors set 2 which used to be rarer than hens teeth!

    • booboo

      May 28th, 2016 - 11:46am

I always thought it was the bespoke packaging that was the exclusive part to these to be honest

the thing is most people knew the exact same purple Missy was available in the USA in STD packaging and at a cheaper price so it should come as no surprise they have done the same as the Black one.

If anyone wants to take it up with Character however i would be interested to know what they say

    • Anonymous

      May 30th, 2016 - 11:15pm

I too would be very interested in what Character would have to say on this? Especially since they never sold-out of either figure as on online exclusive.
