Doctor Who Magazine Special Print The Legend

Available to order from www.forbiddenplanet.com and www.panini.co.uk

This lavish, 116-page bookazine from the makers of Doctor Who Magazine is the essential guide to novelisations – hardback, paperback and audio adaptations of television stories.

Highlights include profiles of leading authors, a section on collecting rarities, a look at the recording of the audiobooks and a tribute to illustrator Chris Achilléos. Exclusives include a previously unpublished extract from The Enemy of the World, the book that legendary Doctor Who writer David Whitaker was working on before his death in 1980.

“The first of these books was published in 1964, and there have been 223 to date,” says editor Marcus Hearn. “This special issue includes details on every single one, with cover illustrations, information about reprints, foreign-language editions and much more.”

Each issue of Print the Legend comes with a free CD audiobook, randomly selected from the BBC Audiobooks Doctor Who range.

Wonderful mqgazine. Underworld cd with my copy.. and the jeopady of thinking of buying another copy as the CD case leaves a nice impression on the magazine cover. Guaranteed to not be good condition sigh.

I wonder if it was in a clear bag where you saw which CD it was whether sales would be greater as some people would purchase multiple copies to get multiple stories, or if sales would be more sluggish with some shelf warming as people shopping around for the stories they want?

Not that shopping around is easy, none in Smiths yet 3 in a corner newsagent?!

I wish I knew if what was in the other 2.

Having been to four WHS to no avail. I finally got a copy for myself and another Whovian from FP today. It seemed they had only just received them and given their bulk, had nowhere to put them.

Again I reckon many WHS branches will lag to next Thursday.
Those that manage to get them in supermarkets, I find staggeringly as all the super-sized supermarkets that did in my area have all drastically reduced their magazine display areas to about one third of what it was.

Has anyone else not received their copy yet? I pre-ordered it and had a dispatch confirmation from Panani but still haven’t received it. I’ve emailed them but they’ve told me to wait for it to arrive. Usually their magazines are delivered within 2/3 days. Really frustrating as I’ve seen it in Sainsbury’s and not bothered picking up a copy as I’ve apparently got one coming in the post

I try and pre-order mine (as with the Chronicles) and they seem to arrive regularly on the Saturday after the release day.

Has any other subscriber not received theirs yet. Usually 1 week late is more common but this will now go beyond that. Thanks.

I have been confused a little by the term special. Some are calling it special, some a bookazine which explains why not received as subscription and not in WHS as they get bookazines two weeks late. Fewer shops are selling them, so the chase covers greater distances.

Been to three WHS on south coast and two Tescos. Nothing. It seems my area WHS branches get bookazines two weeks late

The Monitor – No, I’ve not received mine either. I had a dispatch e-mail from Panini on the 6th June and I sent a chaser e-mail to them this morning. Predictably, no reply. Hoping it turns up tomorrow or Monday.

A very well put together special. But I wish the amazing artwork had been on the cover as well as the bag it comes in.

Received my copy this morning and was surprised to receive 4-cd copy of ‘’The Witchfinders’ in a CD jewel case. Presumed the audio cd would come in a cheap cardboard sleeve. Bookazine is also very nice, though i’ve only had a quick browse through so far.

Unless we get another 100 or so Target novels released over the next year (unlikley) this is the only one. It seems to have replaced the slot for the Chronicles release this quarter. Have the Chronicles now ended?

Its a possibility, perhaps linked in with Audible. I wondered this as well as I get my mags digitally. Being picky, some of those free audiobooks shown are technically not novelisations. Not to worry as I already have all the audio Targets released so far, and wonderful they are too.

Glad they’ve included my four favourite Doctors on the cover, Patrick Troughton, David Tennant, Eric Idle and Paul Jones as Uncle Jack.

This comment made me think of that wonderful letter in the early days of DWM when the correspondent said they didn’t like the second cover illustration for The Three Doctors Target novel as Jon Pertwee looked too old, Patrick Troughton looked too bad and William Hartnell looked too Welsh!

Having just got,a few weeks ago,The Fabulous legend that is TOM BAKER special Edition, This is hot on its heels, so I assume, this is The bookazine issue that we subscribers have to buy separately?

This sounds very much like a 116 page version of the Free to download BASED ON THE POPULAR BBC TELEVISION SERIAL by Paul MC Smith ,which is Gorgeous. So this I imagine will be awesome.
