July 29th, 2026 - 11:41amYeah I find it saves me space in a one bed flat not having tons of old editions of DWM cluttering up the place. On the hard-drive with the MP3 collection they go instead. As I said though, I do tend to buy the odd edition I want – and 9 times out of 10 I’ll get a hardcopy of the specials (like the Chronicles), mainly as I’m more likely to refer back to them than a random edition of DWM.

As someone who watched Dr Who on a black and white tv for much of the 70s, I don’t think I could get my head round an online magazine…

There has always been confusion about who was who as the article says with maggy (the short one) getting swapped over with the tall one. So I’ve no idea who I got it wrong lol. July 28th, 2026 - 1:43pmI see why they’re interviewing people like the Romana actor and Brian from the TV Movie, as they’ve not been interviewed before. But… my Dad’s married to Doreen James, who did the costumes on Androids of Tara and City of Death, and went to the Paris shoot (unlike Julian Glover), and I’m pretty sure she’s never done a full-length DWM interview. I’ve twice written to DWM to suggest they interview her and never heard back – so I’m starting to take these interviews with obscure actors as a personal affront! 🙂

I love it: I find it great hearing the stories and recollections of people who have never been interviewed before. Shows that, even after all this time, there’s still more to learn and discover about the show and those involved in making it.
It’s either that or the millionth interview with the usual actor saying the same anecdotes that have been said in *every interview* going back decades. I don’t really see the value in doing that – that I’d say would be “milking the cow dry”.
At least this is doing something NEW. And it’s an attempt to map out a part of the show and it’s production that have been hitherto unknown to us.
and @ Jason – sounds amazing! Have you tried emailing to ask the latest DWM editor? Robbie Dunlop seems to do these interviews with the unknown people – he goes to a lot of effort to track people down (I actually know him a wee bit).

Physician and Peter – thanks for the comments. I e-mailed the usual address and I know they can hear me as I’ve had the odd letter printed. (For example, my wife broke my yellow DW mug the week before The Reality War had all that broken yellow crockery in it, and so a photo of my broken mug made it in.) I’ve never interviewed anyone before but maybe you’re right – I have written once for The Doctor Who Companion website so I guess I could ask there!

I wonder if it came from stock? Or if any of them did and were adapted slightly? Also… Tom’s scarf gets bits chopped off by an electrified sword in Tara: how was that done? Peter Jeffrey looks fabulous in that story: wonder what he was like to work with and dress? Love the Archimandrite costume too, plus Madame Lamia.

There was a time when I bought DWM, Doctor Who Adventures and the Titan reprint comic and it cost me less than this issue would! Over €18 for a single magazine! For comparison sake, SFX costs around €9 in Ireland. I hate to say it but if DWM continues as it is it won’t be around for it’s 50th anniversary!

July 27th, 2026 - 12:33pmIt matters not one jot. There will still be references to the others and it is a blanket policy of mine to only process full stories, not only fragments of them. Reading that comic would be the equivalent of watching the third episode of a seven-part story and not watching any of the rest of it.
I did with TLV. I did with DD. I am doing it with CB. I will do it if they ever do this kind of thing again.
And, @Dalekoddjob, there are already parts of the actual magazine I don’t even read because they are of no interest to me! This was part of why I subscribed to have the issues delivered: so I wouldn’t have to pay more for some issues just because they’re packaged with other stuff that will just get immediately put for recycling unused!

July 27th, 2026 - 1:17pm@Dalekoddjob, I am not aggressive at all. I am simply frustrated at having to repeatedly make the same points so many times. I wasn’t actually reading the DWM comics anyway at the time of TLV & DD, but I absolutely would have skipped the ones attached to those projects if I had been.
Multimedia projects are just an idea that is inherently built on two assumptions that simply are not true: that we all have the money available to spend on all this stuff in the first place, and that we are all interested enough in the subject matter to do so. I definitely fail the former, and am very unlikely to ever not also fail the latter given that it requires the former to be true first to even be relevant!
I read the comic that was inside the magazine perfectly fine and I enjoyed it quite a lot. I did, however, skip all the CB-related content, especially the interviews given I tend to skip most of those anyway.
Maybe I might consider getting these multimedia projects if there were to buy all the relevant material as a singular product rather than having to find and purchase each element individually before starting any of it.

Ambassadors of Death, Inferno, Mind of Evil, the Time Monster (i know, 6 parts) nothing much happens in the first 2 episodes…
No Ambassador….no parallel world….not much of the Master….no Chronovore….

July 27th, 2026 - 1:35pmI think the big problem with the multi-platform event is that it has never tied directly into the TV arcs at that time, I think if they managed to plan it ahead and do that, that would be a much better way to get people on board, I have Only got the TLV Graphic Novel, 1 of of the books and 04th doctor big finish tie in, the Doom’s Day dwm supplement and graphic novel. It is a nightmare to collect otherwise

July 27th, 2026 - 2:38pmI’ve read the supplement and it’s fine. But I did feel that like a lot of the comic strips recently its just not very substantial. There isn’t much story there. Hopefully we will get a collection soon featuring the hartnell story as that was good but I’ll not get to read the rest as I don’t buy the magazine every month. Liked that it was in black and white, a nice touch.

Moffat must go. Chibnall must go. RTD must go – again! Whoever is next must go before they’ve even began! It’s all RUBBISH. RUBBISH and the PUBLIC HATE IT!!! KILL IT NOOOOOOW!!!!”
“Oblivion” suggests that Dr Who will not be watched/spin-off media read/watched/listened to in any capacity ever going forward. That’s never going to be the case – we’ll all be dead in 100 years time and people will still be watching things like Genesis of the Daleks, listening to things like Spare Parts and reading things like the comics and various book ranges.
Anyone who lived through the 1990s knows Dr Who lives beyond the TV screen: it’s an absolute cultural phenomenon. That should be something we recognise and celebrate – isn’t that what fandom means?

July 24th, 2026 - 11:29amThe ‘doctor who is dead’ chant goes back to power of the daleks and Troughton debut. Surprisingly the show took another 23 years before the rants came true, well partially true at least until a brief 1996 hello and then the 2005 return. As has been mentioned before Peter, the negative posters shout louder and type more vigorously than positive fans. Most positive fans say nothing, some because they feel no need to others out of fear of being shouted down.

Every new book, film, album or game is “the worst thing ever and signals the death knell of” insert franchise/author/music artist. It’s the new culture of hate, a culture of negativity. Now I’ve not made any secret of not enjoying Russell’s return but that doesn’t mean I think everyone should also not like it or that the show should end. It just means that I’m not keen on it at the moment. I think the thing which depresses me is the glee with which people post negatively.

In the 90’s I had a subscription to DWM. I could order the New Adventures, Past Doctor Books and Audios from the local bookshops in my town centre. I could buy the videos in WHSmiths, HMV or Woolworths. I never had to sneak into a shop to buy something.
The only thing we didn’t have was a television programme to watch. Doctor Who came back before and I’m sure when the right production team are chosen it will come back again.
Then as Peter says it will be just another thing for the vocal group to moan about whilst the rest of us (if I’m still around) will be able to enjoy it.

July 24th, 2026 - 7:34pmPeter, you say it’s Pointless Negativity, but I actually believe the point I was trying to make. Only the TV programme though. I know Dr Who will continue for years to come in some form, possibly Big Finish Audios, Magazines, Comics, Books etc.
But as far as the show goes I think it’s dead. Totally killed off by RTD and Ncuti.
As a lifelong Dr Who fan I don’t take any pleasure in that.

July 24th, 2026 - 9:13pmThe Dr there is every possibility the show will return. It might take a few years or even more but I don’t know its been killed off by Russell or ncuti. Yes the writing was weak. And ncuti could only work with what he was given. I thought he was fine, its the stories that were weak for me. I think it needs a rethink, not a hard reboot, I agree with Moffat that that would be a mistake and I think i would have to think about watching it. But just a change in the storytelling is needed i feel. Slow things down, don’t assume fantastic special effects make a story, bring back fan favourites but make them recognisable! Make the doctor less manic. The doctor can be eccentric without leaping around the screen gurning like Tennant. Doctor who isn’t dead, just a tad unwell!

July 28th, 2026 - 4:03pmI’m glad some of you had good experiences in the 90s when it came to Who because I can see where War Chief’s coming from. I think I’d have had a better reaction to someone finding out I had a weird sexual fetish to someone finding out I liked DW, but unfortunately I didn’t have any fetish to draw away attention. Even into the noughties it was bad – think of the audience cheer when Mr Grade put Who into Room 101.

July 28th, 2026 - 6:37pmI didn’t have a good experience being a Who fan in the 1990s: it was a bully-able offence. But so what? If you are a bandwagon fan of something when it’s “cool” and in vogue then that’s your affair. I’ll stick to things I actually *like*.
And as has been pointed out, it may not have been in the zeitgeist (apart from to be laughed at with people saying things like “Dr Who?! Have you not grown out of that yet?”) – so what? There was still plenty of life in the old dog as it ticked over with all the various media that’s been mentioned.
It must have been doing something right because I became a fan when it was uncool and a ‘dead’ show in 1994! And yes I was a kid at the time (I was 9, going on 10). I didn’t care that it was a very solitary experience as I loved Dr Who (and still do).

July 28th, 2026 - 6:47pmI was also into heavy metal and I’m covered in tattoos so the work bullies struggled when they saw me reading a target book. One of them was a football fan and when I pointed out that being a who fan or a train fan as the son of a colleague was was no different to him collecting his football programmes and bus and train tickets to and from matches is sealed packets in folders he just couldn’t see it. I remember telling the colleague whose ten year old son loved trains, what harm is it doing if it makes him happy? She was happier after that.

And I told none of my friends I had some Dapol Daleks….the grey ones, and some imperials….
But today, I could wave one of my sonic screwdrivers in anyone’s face….should the need arise..
Indeed, every time a new sonic came out during the last decade, I would bring it to the pub, activate it and wave it about to my (resigned) friends and colleagues….

July 24th, 2026 - 10:00amI have to disagree – using any kind of characters/incarnations like that would date it by placing it in a specific narrative. Just keeping it the TARDIS with the regeneration energy flowing out makes it more timeless and open-ended.
