I can’t believe that only one of David Tennant’s thumbs is visible on the cover. It’s not necessarily a problem for me but for those used to seeing both of David Tennant’s thumbs it must be a disappointment.

I’m no expert, but from what I’ve seen online David Tennant uses both thumbs when playing the Doctor. All it would’ve taken is a bit of resizing and cropping.

As for not showing K9’s wheels, well…

Scrolling through Twitter seeing people bicker about this cover is infuriating.
It’s a gorgeous previously unseen shot from that shoot, that never saw the light of day (see Russell’s column, it’s a lovely story).
As Samuel said below, fair enough cropping K-9 out looks a little janky, but probably couldn’t be helped without some heavy editing, given the seemingly fixed top-left position of the new branding.
It’s a stunning cover and tribute, enjoy it for what it is.

For me, it isn’t neccesarily a problem whatsoever that David Tennant happens to be in the photo – it’s more to do with the positioning and cropping of the cover photo.

It’s pretty simple to do today on most photo editors to isolate the subjects, resize for all three to appear perfectly in line with the logo and boundaries of the cover – then rebuild the background where there are any gaps.

I know only a bit from what I’ve studied online regarding a few major editors – there’s even AI that will fill those gaps in – or quite simply blend other bits of Tardis photos into those gaps.

I just can’t understand why they couldn’t put together this photo as a composition – Doctor left, K9 right, Sarah Jane central and above.

Found in Smiths in Essex. Issue all about SJA. I liked the cheeky 60s Dalek toy reference in the comic strip.. 🙂

I knew receiving three consecutive subscribers copies on or prior to the day of publication was too good to be true.

Has anyone else not had theirs delivered yet?

Ask to set up a magazine folder. Then you won’t miss out as will get a copy set aside. Have to pay a. Deposit but you can get this back if/when you cancel your folder.

They treated K9 here exactly how he was treated in SJA – out of sight for most of the series xD

They didn’t have the rights to use use him in SJA that’s why he only made brief appeances early on due to the k9 series.

Is a shame they cut half him off the cover

Actually the BBC did have the rights. The late Bob Baker and Paul Tams made this very clear in various conventions I saw them at. The issue was the BBC, they just didn’t want K9 in the series preferring Mr Smith.

      February 28th, 2023 - 10:50pm

I knew that, but didn’t know the BBC were against using him….I thought it was cause of the spin off they were developing at the same time, cause surely a show for kids with a robot dog would be apoealing

i hope there not pulling the same stunt as the yearbook where they put david tennant on the cover yet inside he wasn’t pictured once, interviewed or even mentioned.Panini really need to stop treating david like a dr who poster boy and a money grab to move copies plus it’s false advertising.

      So true! Lol “I don’t believe it…. I’m on the cover of a mag-a-zine!”

Loving the improvement in quality of the magazine over the last few months! Always excited for the next issue at the moment and this looks like another good one! Would have been nice to have Liz Sladen a bit more front and centre on the cover, but this is a lovely image nonetheless, and I’m looking forward to the textless cover. The new logo has been looking so good on the covers recently too!

It is indeed a lovely cover! I’m not the Tenth Doctor’s biggest fan, but his meeting with Sarah Jane was beautiful and one of the highlights of the returned series.

Loved the SJA too and Lis Sladen is still so missed. I’m sure RTD would have ensured we’d be seeing her Further Adventures if she had still been here.

We do indeed love Sarah Jane!

Not a huge fan of 10 either (my least favourite new series Doctor), but that episode is special because Sladen is always excellent, and you can hear how much the Doctor, writer, and producer were geeking out about having her back.
