Please does anyone know if the subscriber cover is different for this one?

Historically bagged issues have a common cover for newsstand / subscribers but this appears to definitely have a subscribers (virgin) cover)

Wondered if that was the common cover of=r there are actually 2 versions?

    Thanks in adcance

Quite a different cover for subscribers!

Liking the new version of the Sontarans very much…more like the ones of old. Nice collection of cards and a free Tom Baker story to boot! Really nice mix of old and new in the magazine generally.

I never did much like a blue sontaran doug. More vicious, more warlike is required. Not reduced to ‘militaristic buffoon’ or comedy sidekick.

Yes I think they’ve achieved that ‘nasty, brutish and short’ look most of the originals had with the new ones. I didn’t particularly care for the, as you say Ergon, comedy sidekick they became nor the Doctor’s comments about ‘potato-heads’, because I don’t think the Doctor would (or should) make cheap jokes about physical appearances – even an alien’s!

Great to have Andrew Pixley back writing for DWM again. In the Marvel days of this publication the then Editor Gary Russell imagined Andrew’s Detailed Archive writings on the classic series serials to be a pull out partworks that were to be stored separately and this is exactly what I used to do. They are also great for getting signatures on at conventions.

Probably won’t bother buying this issue. I only buy DWM occasionally now. The 5th Doctor’s TARDIS cardboard diaroma might have interested me, but I’ve got some of the Dapol TARDIS roundels walls which I use as a diaroma.

Once again with the negative comments. The same people will no doubt be complaining about RTD when the next doctor is announced or when he announces the companions or enemies or dares to to something different. I’m looking forward to this series.

For me personally, RTD is a superb writer, who also writes characters extremely well. Plus he knows how to write exciting drama. Chibnall’s writing isn’t up to standard for TV, but more suited for audio .

I agree a lot of the people now saying wow about RTD will be criticising him when he takes over again fans like to bite the hand that feeds them. Some seem to feel like they own the show but forget it’s for every fan old and young not just one fans personal expectations.

Sounds great! Can’t wait to read this one! Hope the content with Jodie and Chris is in depth.

Interesting about the 28 page supplement on Series 12. Would have been nice to have this content within the magazine itself in the months after the series. Great that we’re getting it now though. Andrew Pixley’s stuff is always more retrospective as well anyway than immediate behind the scenes reactions from the cast and crew on each episode. Still hoping they’ll continue the 12th Doctor companions volumes! It’s been well over a year since the last one now I think!

I am always impressed with the fantastic work of Andrew Pixley, And am rather glad its seperate , so I can shelve it with the White Hachette book or the specials. Shame its not a special to go with the other, but Lovely to get it at all.

  • Doctor Stu

    October 12th, 2021 - 4:56pm

I don’t see how this is going to be the biggest story they’ve ever told, it’s going to be at least a little bit episodic as we’ve got weeping angels and sontarans to independently tackle as well as a new companion to introduce, I just don’t see how they’re going to be able to pull all this off in six parts. Especially with Chibnalls penchant for 50 minutes of nothing happening and then ten minutes of plot and wrap up at the end. Unless its actually 9 parts like we were originally told and the end of the series has genuinely just been split and shown as ‘specials’ throughout 2022 because they know they wouldn’t be able to get a series out next year.

They mean in terms of scale, rather than how long it’ll last for…

(When they say “biggest story ever told”, be sure to expect universal threat/big scale dangers…)

But if they had done that what would have been the cover for this month? The same again? Dan was the focus last month & this month it’s all three for the start of the series I think that’s the right way to do it

    • Coleman

      October 12th, 2021 - 2:52pm

Ah, ah. I knew someone was going to say that. No, just have something different for this issues cover. Maybe some Aliens on the cover with Jodie from this series that’s been mentioned on the new trailer?

    • Coleman

      October 12th, 2021 - 3:04pm

The Flux, Ravages. Sontarans and Weeping Angels surrounding Jodie would do me for this cover.

    • SamWho

      October 12th, 2021 - 3:55pm

Yeah it would be nice to have some monsters but it’s too early for that because they don’t want to reveal what they all look like yet and you know what they are like with spoilers even if they’ve said the word they don’t want to show them before the episode
Next month can be monsters month because we will have seen them on tv then this month is fam & last month was new companion makes the most sense to me

      October 12th, 2021 - 4:13pm

Is that the correct spelling for the ravages coleman, i only ask as i was thinking of the recent big finish with chris eccleston but that was ravagers and wondering if there was a crossover.

    • Rhys Woodfield

      October 12th, 2021 - 4:13pm

I’m just thinking back to when I was a kid and how excited I would get from getting some tantalising pics of monsters or anything other than just promo pics we’ve seen dozens of times before on magazine covers like DWM and the Radio Times, now it feels like they’ve taken the secrecy around the series too far and don’t want to generate any real buzz. Even at Comic Con I found it so strange how reluctant they were to generate any excitement other than the casting of some minor actor from Thrones. The showman that is RTD will hopefully bring this back, he knew how to promote!

Not sure how it’s spelt ergon, just seen the new trailer where Jodie’s asking for help and mentions the Ravagers. Only a couple of weeks before we find out though.

    • The Fishmonger

      October 12th, 2021 - 5:09pm

Do we think these Ravagers are the same as the ones in the Big Finish Eccleston stories?

    • Coleman

      October 12th, 2021 - 5:17pm

Could be Fishmonger. It really depends on how it is spelt though, could be totally different spelling., its great to speculate anyway.
