Is there a comic in this? Or have they eliminated it or put it on hiatus?

It says The Piggybackers on the cover which is the comic for three months now. This will be the fourth.

      I hope it helps

Thanks, Jeroen. Dr Who Panel 2 Panel and some other people are saying the comic strip is going on hiatus for 3 months (after this issue?) so I wondered if the conclusion to Piggybackers was in DWM 552 or not.

It is the last part of the current strip this issue. If the strip goes on hiatus for 3 months that might tie into preview for next issue – Tv Comic sleep walkers strip, Troughtons last strip that was 3 issues long.

It explains what’s happening in this months editorial on page 3. As you say, no new comic strip for the next 3 issues (starting with 553) – for financial reasons – but they are reprinting the second Doctors comic strip swansong to plug the gap. The when the strip returns it will be DWM’s contribution to TimeLord Victorious. Meanwhile, they have said elsewhere that the 13th Doctor will be back in the strip around Christmas.

I have noticed them trying to encourage subscriptions as well seems times may be hard due to all the uncertainty.

This is awful, glad I can’t go out to see it on the shelves.

Its terrible isnt it! Susan`s face looks so bizarre. Such a shame as we don`t get many Hartnell covers.

It’s a shame the cover is so bad. They’ve not coloured his hair and you can see they’ve not finished his face as it stops before the hairline. The eyes on both are skin colour and some of the clothes bleed over where they’ve not kept in the lines. Surprised it made the final print

The more I look at the cover image, the weirder it looks. Aren’t they stood on the fan/light thing from the TARDIS roof. And what are the white wiggly lines about? And the skin tones. So many questions.

The cover image is the one used on planet of giants DVD. The final image will probably be better

Looked at the original photo now and I get the feeling that if they had used the original background people may have been tempted to say, “jeez DWM is really circling the drain.”

Surprised they haven’t done a Troughton centenary issue yet considering Pertwee got one last year.

I wonder if that ‘angle’ is being held up their sleeves to coincide with the Fury From The Deep release – which is still on for this year (I think?). That will help form a big Pat-centric centrepiece to a centenary issue, perhaps

That and the rumoured Season 6 release. Although the pandemic could have delayed it, if it was meant to be coming as part of his 100th anniversary year.

They still need to animate The Space Pirates though- but I’m not sure many people will want it…

I would. I think it could be far better than people are accustomed to. Assume political, conversational story like some of Holmes’s Blake’s 7. It is higher up my list than all bar Evil, Massacre and Masterplan

I’ve always loved that TARDIS/5th Doctor/Dalek Easter Egg Box – it’s one of my favourite things in my collection. Shame I ate the egg and used the rub-down transfers, but I was just a kid! One of the most unintentionally risque pieces of merchandise ever…
