Doctor Who: Hornet’s Nest Tom Baker Signed Edition Vinyl LP

Available to order while stocks last from www.amazon.co.uk

After a bumpy few days of what seems to be stock delays this is now available for next day delivery.

These boxes are strictly limited to just 1200 Worldwide. 600 units will be available in the UK, 300 in the USA, 50 in Australia and 250 for the rest of world.

On limited edition vinyl for the very first time, Demon Records presents the unique audio adventure that first instigated Tom Baker’s remarkable return to the role of the Doctor.

An exclusive, frameable portrait of the Fourth Doctor – every copy of which has been individually signed by Tom Baker himself – is just one of the treats inside this stunningly designed package.

An impressive, die-cut removable outer sleeve houses a hornet-adorned lidded box, inside which are 10 individual, exquisitely illustrated LP sleeves featuring full cast and credits for each story.

Also included is The Doctor’s Journal, a large 16-page full colour booklet detailing the Time Lord’s notes and illustrations from his battles against the hornets.

Presented across 10 x 140g alternating Yellow and Black vinyl discs, this full-cast audio adventure by Paul Magrs stars Tom Baker as the Doctor, with Richard Franklin as Mike Yates and Susan Jameson as Mrs Wibbsey.

The supporting cast includes Daniel Hill, Christian Rodska, Michael Maloney, Stephen Thorne and Rula Lenska, and sound design is by Simon Power, alongside the familiar Doctor Who theme from the BBC Radiophonic Workshop.

  • LP 1&2: The Stuff of Nightmares
  • LP 3&4: The Dead Shoes
  • LP 5&6: Circus of Doom
  • LP 7&8: A Sting in the Tail
  • LP 9&10: Hive of Horror

When Captain Mike Yates is reunited with his old friend the Doctor, he finds him besieged by a powerful race of insects intent on global domination. As the Time Lord recounts his recent adventures across the centuries, it becomes clear that the fate of mankind is in the hands of the Doctor, Mike and the peculiar Mrs Wibbsey…

Does anyone know what has happened to the planned signed Demon Quest vinyl set?

I can’t see it listed on this site anymore and the HMV link cannot find the page.

I’ve also looked on the Demon Records site too

    Has it been withdrawn?

I don’t think I’ll be buying any more of these if they do release them. Certainly not on release at full price. Patience would have saved me £55. Won’t get stung again (if you’ll forgive the pun).

I’m with you. I also did the same. I mean I understand the companies want to turn a profit, but this seems rather excessive.

Yeah, I agree Booboo about the Expence.
The LPs started off around the £25 to £30 mark which i dont think was too bad at all. Then came the 3 or 4 LP sets which were around £60 or £70, now theirs this 10 LP set which originally was £160. I think it’s getting abit much.

niche market, i’d pay that if i didn’t collect anything else , would love the hornets nest set

Yes, I have to admit I was very tempted with Hornets Nest, what with the Beautiful Artwork, Nicely packaged and of course Tom’s Signature. I already have quite a few Signatures of Tom, but in my book you can’t have enough of his Signatures. Eventually I gave in and bought it but I still which they were cheaper (Much Cheaper) and maybe in future do more Stories that can be included on maybe one or Two discs around the £30 Mark.

This is now currently down to just £105 on Amazon – £55 cheaper than it originally was I think. It really is beautiful so if it was the price putting you off now might be a good time to get it at about the cheapest it may ever be.

    • Coleman

      August 12th, 2022 - 10:15am

I think it might drop even further, (unless it sells out).
I’ve been keeping an out on the Price this last week or so and literally every day the price as been dropping a few pounds. Expect in to be even cheaper tomorrow.

i keep bring it to the front thinking it wont go any lower then it does, never seen these sets with such a big discount they usually sell out.

mind you when its gone it will be £300 on ebay.

Booboo, Occasionally I browse Ebay, Etc looking at The Older Dr Who Vinyls and I was very Surprised seeing that the “Infamy of the Zaross” going for around £2,500 by a few different sellers.
Can’t think why on Earth it sells for that much. Although I realise it is a very Limited Edition and will be hard to find, but so are most of these Dr Who Vinyls.
It’s the nature of the beast so to speak (They only make them in Limited Quantity’s) because it’s a Niche Market. But most of them don’t go for this kind of money on the aftermarket.

Blimey no idea, they were HMV so available online i think. why couldn’t that be Cold Vengeance, i’ve got 4 of those!

    • Coleman

      August 12th, 2022 - 3:55pm

Just had a look on Ebay today and theirs only Two “The Infamy of the Zaross” LPs around the £2,000- £2,500 mark, both by the same Seller.
But I looked on Ebay a few weeks ago and there was 4 sets Available all by Different Sellers and all around £2,500. Blimey indeed.

But look at the sold listings – £46 plus p&p in auction! If they sell for £2,500, I’m calling the money laundering people… to ask for a cut in exchange for my silence.

i have noticed this on the last couple, i think purses are tightening so initial sales not as good as they used to be.

      June 15th, 2022 - 11:41am

Ah, ah, yes, FOMO is a strong reason why alot of people are paying top prices for merchandise instead of waiting for all the sales which inevitably follow.

    • booboo

      June 15th, 2022 - 11:45am

I can see why though, most of these LP sets in the past have sold out without ever being reduced.

    • Alan

      June 15th, 2022 - 7:04pm

I wouldn’t say inevitably. I thought this would be popular despite the price because of the confirmed low number (don’t normally see just how limited these actually are) and Tom Baker’s autograph.
Then again, I did buy the 13 Barbie on launch and hesitated on the Flux steelbook so I don’t have the best judgement.

This is utterly beautiful. Lavish, luxurious speing to mind. DEMON have out done thier previous high standards. From the Slipcase ,box art and die cut hexagons. To the art on each sleeve. OINK CREATIVE are surpassing themselves. Then you get the 12″ book.

Oh the sound is fabulous too. I always feel the vinyl editions are warmer than the CD releases, but that could be done to my set up as much as anything else.

Lets hope we can get the other nest cottage releases in such style. 600 in the UK. I dont think they will be available for long.

Good grief. That’s a huge surprise . I assume the others Serpent and Dragon will come along at some point. 10 discs seems bigger than has been the case.

Lovely designs and Artwork though. The LTD nature and Tom Signing ,make this must.

I want Slipback special edition .

Poor Tom having to sign all these!
It reminds me of when I was a kid, in the big John Menzies in Princes Street, Edinburgh, you could hardly find a Target paperback he hadn’t signed! They must have made him sign hundreds and hundreds of the things!
This does look like an amazing release. Lovely design!

Strangely enough Tom’s signature seems to attract a price – But you would think it would be practically worthless considering he is the most prolific signer of all the Doctors? Now try finding a William Hartnell signature on a Doctor Who piece of ephemera: Few & far between & very costly if you do find one!

NOTE: I’m not knocking Tom as I have 3 signed items by him already.

Big price. At first I thought this was for the whole Nest Cottage saga and now I’m wondering if the other entries will follow eventually. If they do and the price remains the same, it will be a very expensive decision.
