Character Options Confirms Rollout of the Fifteenth Doctor and Ruby Sunday Action Figures.

Character and the BBC Studios are proud to announce to fans and collectors that that the Fifteenth Doctor and Ruby Sunday action figures will join the ranks of their other incarnations, companions and foes on shelves everywhere soon. The announcement comes along with images of these latest ‘Vortex Edition’ characters.

Kathryn Ludlam, Character Options, brand manager, commented: “Since their first appearance at London Toy Fair, we have been inundated with requests about the release of the Fifteenth Doctor and Ruby Sunday figures. We are delighted to confirm that the figures will be available in two formats; an exclusive bundle pack from Character-Online and as individual packs with alternative decoration at mass retail, both launching later in the year.”

Vortex Edition 5.5” Collector figures bundle pack – available at Character-Online

These Gen 3 figures feature a higher specification decoration for extra detail and features include internal pivots on the neck and ankles, ball jointed waist and shoulders as well as internal pins on the arms and legs.

In this exclusive online version of these figures, there is the Fifteenth Doctor as played, by Ncuti Gatwa in his tan coat with orange striped shirt blue trousers and red and black trainers. The Doctor’s accessories include the blue Sonic Screwdriver, landmine from the episode, ‘Boom’ and ubiquitous Psychic Paper. Meanwhile the Ruby Sunday figure, as played by Millie Gibson, is presented as she looked in her debut story dressed in red jumper, tartan skorts as well as her black bomber jacket, and comes with her mobile phone, and shoulder bag accessories.

This online exclusive set features specially designed packaging to allow the figures to be opened and played with or repacked for display. Each figure is individually boxed, and then beautifully sleeved together as a single purchase. A sturdy transit box is used to protect this unique set.

Mass Retail Single Packs

A mass retail version will be available shortly afterwards in fused blister carded packs; with the Fifteenth Doctor’s shirt in teal, ocean green trousers and tan shoes whilst Ruby Sunday is dressed in a denim jacket, blue skorts and cream jumper.

Well, I don’t think I’ll be paying that for them, I can Wait. I suppose someone will buy them, then it encourages this behaviour even more unfortunately.

Surely there should be a rule in place about this then Ivr always hated the fact people get them for free with no subscribers or anything they should stop handing them out to people

These look absolutely amazing! Even if i wasn’t the biggest fan of the new series having a new TARDIS team for the shelf is always amazing, and these look like they’re going to steal the spotlight

Excited to see the return to single release figures, and the price point of £20 is great for so many accessories and 0 reuse, I was collecting the Judge Dredd figures for a while and they where more than £20 for a 1/18 scale figure!

This and the new Emperor Davros release have got me really excited for potential single release figures, if we got an Ainley Master i’d be blown away, and if there’s any chance the Wrarth Warrior seen at ToyFair could be included in a wave i’d be so happy.

The ‘Vortex Range’ is comparable to the ‘Black Series’ Star Wars action figure range. Highly detailed figures with accessories in a presentation box – mainly aimed at collectors.

    • Vladnag

      October 9th, 2024 - 8:39am

To add on to what Charlie said: Al Dewar mentioned on a podcast his idea for the “Vortex Range”, a rerelease of all the Doctors with improved paint apps, articulation and accessories. It’s exciting to see this idea come alive!

    • Radburn

      October 9th, 2024 - 8:26pm

The ‘Vortex’ Range is confirmed. If you look on the back of both the 15th. & Ruby Figures it has a panel on them stating ‘the new Vortex range’

  • FH

Just noticed that it looks like for the final figure they’re saving costs by casting the trouesrs in a light blue plastic, as opposed to the prototype version that was seen at the Toyfair where they painted them.

It’s a massive shame Character haven’t rereleased the 13th Doctor Tardis as it covers 3 doctors in all so far including the 15th it’s mega bucks now 🙁

    • Matt

      October 8th, 2024 - 8:34pm

15th Doctor maybe they could also have the decency of putting a picture of the interior in next time too

    • Vladnag

      October 9th, 2024 - 8:46am

Usually prototype figures are entirely painted by hand, as they’re made from 3D prints or early factory samples just to show what the final figure could look like! Not the best idea to compare a professionally hand painted prototype figure to a mass retail figure as you’ll always be disappointed.

Coloured plastic is a way better choice for arms/legs anyway, my Face of Evil Leela figure has paint chipping off their shoulder where the joints are and it looks awful!

(Sorry, wrong reply.) I bet a whole set of variant Susan Twist figures are coming part of a Sutekh build-a-figure wave. As silly as that sounds, I probably would still buy them.

If they’d bothered to try and make the show accessible to the entire audience we might have gotten a new retail boom like 2005. But RT failed to bring the fans back and so I can just see these warming legs for the next year

    • Jamie

      October 8th, 2024 - 10:36pm

I think how accessible the show is to general audiences is something the fans worry about too much. Its not like 2005 where mainstream sci-fi was pretty much dead in the UK, these days people are constantly watching stuff like Marvel and Star Wars. Doctor Who wont give them much trouble. And to be quite honest I don’t think there is anything RTD could have done to return to the popularity of 2005.

These figures look amazing and I cant wait to get them. Hopefully they do well enough for the Vortex range to continue.

I’ve No idea myself, but I’ve a sneaky Feeling there the Same figures bit just painted differently to save on Costs. I haven’t a problem with that as I know how much Tooling Costs for a totally New Figure and without doing this we might not have had the Figures at all. ( I’m Happy).

    • FH

      October 8th, 2024 - 7:27pm

@Snowman 15th will probably have the trenchcoat as he did in the episode. It’s almost certainly going to simply be a repaint with no other changes (except minus accessories I’d assume). I noticed it’s actually clever the way they sculpted his shirt with this figure so that, simply by repainting it, it works as the jumper/fleece he wears in Space Babies despite being a different type of garment. Very clever and something I didn’t notice at first.

Tbh I feel like most of the accessories are there to justify the price. Couldn’t care less about half of them, (Ruby’s phone? Really? Oh what an iconic item!!!!) that being said I think it’s astonishing after all these years that we’re finally getting a psychic paper and I think it might be my favourite part of the set lol.
