Doctor Who: Day of the Cockroach Audio CD

Doctor Who: Day of the Cockroach

A dimly-lit underground bunker is the scene for the Eleventh Doctor’s latest thrilling adventure, as May sees the release of brand new audio original The Day of the Cockroach. Written specially for AudioGO by Steve Lyons, it is read by Arthur Darvill, who plays Rory in the hit TV series.

The TARDIS materialises in a pitch-dark tunnel, where the Doctor, Amy and Rory stumble on the dead body of a soldier. Questioned by his superior officer, Colonel Bowe, they learn that they’re inside a British nuclear bunker, in the middle of an atomic war – in 1982.

Amy and Rory weren’t even born then, but they know the bomb didn’t drop that year, and so does the Doctor. The friends also know they had nothing to do with the death of Sergeant Trott – so who, or what, was the killer? And why does the Doctor’s psychic paper not work on the Colonel?

The Doctor, Amy and Rory soon learn that something else is lurking in the shadows. Something deadly…

Written specially for audio by Steve Lyons, Day of the Cockroach features the Doctor, Amy and Rory as played by Matt Smith, Karen Gillan and Arthur Darvill in the acclaimed hit series from BBC Television.

Due for release on 03/05/2012

Finished it earlier! Really good! Here are 6 teasers I randomly drew up:

1.) There’s a reference to The Girl in the Fireplace
    2.) Time Can Be Rewritten
    3.) Upper Leadworth gets mentioned
    4.) The Doctor’s got it wrong-AGAIN!
5.) There’s a fair bit of humour in this Audiobook
6.) Judging by the spooky music at the end and Arthur Darvill’s excellent line delivery, it’s possible there will be a sequel 🙂

The lastest DWM confirms that Raquel Cassidy, who also read The Art of Death, will be reading The Nu-Humans.
Also, there will be a new Eleventh Doctor audio in November called Sleepers in the Dust. It will be written by Darren Jones and will be some sort of a sequel to last years The Eye of the Jungle.

Not too sure about the title – ‘Day of the Cockroach’! There are great episodes with that that starter for a title – ‘Day of the Daleks’, ‘Day of the Moon’. I’m sure it’ll be a great story but the title is just appalling.

So why are you getting this as it is read by Arthur Darvill (Rory)?

    • McGann is the Doctor

      March 28th, 2012 - 8:53am

Well, he’s part of the Tardis team in this episode, so it will be more authentic.

I don’t like the idea of reading a story where none of the characters are played by some other actor. ❗

  • Give me a Dalek any day

    March 27th, 2012 - 2:34pm

Yay!!! Someone from the main cast is reading it! Here’s hoping that Matt Smith will be reading The Nu-Humans! It’s been a while since I’ve heard his Amy impression! 😉

    • Give me a Dalek any day

      March 28th, 2012 - 4:38pm

So can I, but we need to hear it fresh again. And we still haven’t heard his Rory impression!
But Matt is a busy man, he’ll be filming till about December this time and he’ll probably only have about a month or so off after that before he goes back to film the 50th Anniversary.
