Doctor Who: Chronicles Issue 5: 1967
Available to order from www.forbiddenplanet.com
and www.panini.co.uk
Having recently made his debut as the Second Doctor, Patrick Troughton really made the role his own in 1967. However, Doctor Who’s newfound stability was soon threatened by behind-the-scenes changes. As Dalek creator Terry Nation withdrew the rights to use the programme’s most notorious villains, the search began to find new monsters that could fill the gap. This prompted an unforgettable run of stories, including The Tomb of the Cybermen, The Abominable Snowmen and The Ice Warriors.
In this 116-page bookazine, all-new features and rarely seen images tell the story of a year that produced some of Doctor Who’s best-loved episodes.
Contents include articles on:
- The year’s most significant events in the Doctor Who universe (both on and off screen)
- Doctor Who in the popular press
- The Dr Who Annual
- Special effects and production techniques
- Wall’s Dr Who Sky Ray cards and album
- The Highlanders, The Underwater Menace, The Moonbase, The Macra Terror, The Faceless Ones, The Evil of the Daleks, The Tomb of the Cybermen, The Abominable Snowmen and The Ice Warriors
- … and much more!
Doctor Who: Chronicles – 1967 is on sale from Thursday 16 June, RRP just £9.99 from panini.co.uk and selected branches of WH Smith while stocks last. It’s also available digitally from pocketmags.com priced £8.99.

June 20th, 2022 - 8:42pmThese seem to be getting harder and harder to purchase ‘in the wild’ with supermarket magazine selections shrinking and W H Smith’s being increasingly erratic. Online purchases with postage putting the price of ordering that way close to £15. Hopefully DWM can offer some kind of separate subscription?

May 26th, 2022 - 6:57pmIf they reprint the comics of the 60s / 70s, they would need to colourise them in order for wh smith to stock them (seem to remember that was a big condition when they did the classic comics) and they may have limited appeal sadly ( i’d love it too if they did)

May 27th, 2022 - 9:25amIt depends on how they’re presented. Classic Comics was marketed as a comic, and sold in that section, so it was a priority for these to be coloured.
If Panini did reprint 60s/70s comics, however, it would be more likely they’d be presented in the graphic novel format that the DWW/DWM comics are presented, and sold in book form rather than as a comic. Panini’s black and white DWM strips have been reprinted in this format with no issue from retailers.

May 28th, 2022 - 10:39pmThere is a slight problem with the comics. in that some were presented in the middle pages of a stapled comic.
So the story is read across what is in effect 2 pages, if printed in Graphic novel form you lose a piece of the page in the middle section. Add to that, some stories started on the cover. Do they take out any copyright material then print cover, or cut DW section from cover and print solo. Some comics even had Colour and BW, or even single pages then double pages. which has the issue mentioned above.
I would love them to print them, but it’s a lot of clean up work,as well as the above issues, plus Quarks ,Daleks, Cybermen, might need new clearance rights.

May 26th, 2022 - 6:13pmthese Chronicles are ok but i wish they would do something different with the specials/bookazine like maybe reprints of something that people can t get hold of like comics of the 1960s/ 70s more of the doctor who discovers or something like that, i just think the specials are like the regular magazine but not as good and more expensive

May 27th, 2022 - 11:39pmI agree. I’ve stopped buying the Chronicles following the first two.
The reprint of the Dalek strips that came out a couple of years ago, now that was excellent. Like you i’d like more of the same. Basically reissuing Doctor Who Classic Comics in larger format editions.
