B&M 2022 The First Doctor and Electronic Tardis Set

The five new Doctor Who classic lines will be available in November 2022 at B&M stores nationwide.

We think fans will be both delighted and surprised with this rather unique set. This action figure set includes:

  • The First Doctor as portrayed by David Bradley
  • Electronic TARDIS

As fans know, in the first ever episode of the TV show we encounter the TARDIS and its owner and pilot, an alien traveller known only as The Doctor. It’s the start of a great number of adventures over many years.

Since that first show the First Doctor has been played both on screen, and in audio format, by several actors but David Bradley in both the dramatization of the early years of Doctor Who ‘An Adventure in Space & Time’ and in the twelfth Doctor Story ‘Twice Upon A Christmas’ as well as many Big Finish audio adventures, giving a very unique and powerful portrayal which really captured the essence of William Hartnell’s First Doctor.

Speaking of this wave of releases Al Dewar, Creative Director at Character Options, said: “This range has some real gems in it, including some not so easy to spot ones. The three figure sets are very cool and there’s at least one standout figure in each set, including a new Ninth Doctor with new components and an updated Rose V1. We also have a brand-new Angel variant as well as a physically new version of Yaz. Collectors will delight in looking for both variants of the Angel figure.

“With the Dalek sets – this time we have two absolute standout pieces with ‘Genesis of the Daleks’ and my personal favourite Dalek story ‘Destiny of the Daleks’. For me it has everything and I love the look of the battered war worn Daleks. Following that and much to my own delight, is a new First Doctor figure in the form of David Bradley’s Doctor paired with a very unique looking TARDIS based more on the TARDIS look in the BBC 2013 anniversary drama story which covered the creation of the TV series.

“Lastly to go hand in hand with the Dalek sets is a great special release featuring Davros and a very special Dalek … all I can say is fans will not want to miss out on that one!”

Looks like this will be available online at B&M along with the Davros set – search for B&M Tardis and B&M Davros in Google and links (which don’t work yet) appear – price is £24.99 in the detail – hopefully this won’t change

I wonder if they only put the sets online that end up hanging around on the shelves until they’re reduced to nothing? B&M is the kind of store that wants you to go in for one thing and then come out with several (Wilko is like that), so if you’re not going in to pick up a Sensorites or Voord set then you’re not shopping anyway so they might as well try and get rid of them by mail order.

But they know the TARDIS and Dalek sets will always get snapped up, so I’d guess we’ll never see them online.

6th Doctor is just the 5th Doctors Tardis toy so I’d say yes. The figure is the issue… If they can’t afford to do 6th figure paint I’d like them to remove his jacket but give him big hair from TOATL or put the comic version in it.

    • Morlu

      November 3rd, 2022 - 5:35pm

Would love the Big Finish Blue costume of the 6th with his Tardis. Never managed to pick one up and now its a fortune on ebay. Is his comic costume the same as that?

Now we are getting a David Bradley version of the first Doctor is there any reason why we can’t get a Movie Peter Cushing Doctor and his Tardis?

    • booboo

      November 3rd, 2022 - 5:47pm

yes sadly, Peter Cushing, companions and the “Movie Daleks” belong to studio Canal, completely different licence to the BBC and probably not affordable for such a limited range of product at this moment in time.

supposedly £32.99, the price went down so people assumed they might have drooped the electronics but seems its back up to where we were again, the app is not actually showing the price yet.

    • Independently Cross

      October 27th, 2022 - 7:19pm

Oh. Bit of a shame if the price has gone back up, then. The electronic gimmick seemed great at the lower price- at the higher price I’d have to reconsider if I even want this (that it lights up and makes noises the first time I take it out of the box is nice, but not £10 extra nice when it’ll spend the rest of it’s time on a shelf anyway, especially as part of a big, expensive wave). Can barely believe I might not aim to get a TARDIS as an addict, but it’s not technically ‘canon’ for me, as much as I like it; so if I’m ever gonna skip one that price might make this that.

    • Spacewarp

      November 7th, 2022 - 5:57pm

I think a War TARDIS would be almost impossible to mass produce, simply to get the scuff marks accurate. Better off finding an old Tennant box and modding that. Either ignore the lamp or sacrifice a Smith box to get a more accurate one.

  • Andrew

    October 25th, 2022 - 11:58pm

I’m getting it’s probably accurate to one of the sources or other but seeing all these TARDISes with black bases is getting a little irritating.

This is the Adventure in Space & Time prop, which does indeed have a black base if you watch that Docu-Drama.

      Why get irritated at accuracy?

    • Andrew

      October 29th, 2022 - 11:22pm

I guess it’s just surprising how often Character has stumbled into these, and kinda throw off the look a little even if it is accurate.

Though i have ended up with both of the last ones (that one Pertwee TARDIS and the Shada TARDIS), and this one looks very nice (particularly since I slept through the last Hartnell TARDIS and now its aftermarket is almost as bad as the 2010-era release), so it’ll just be weird how I’ve ended up going with the black-base ones in particular by circumstance.

Youtube reviewers get early editions because their reviews are always overwhelmingly positive, and they allow prospective buyers to see the models close-up. A static forum isn’t really set up to advertise the product in that way, and comments are mainly about when’s the stock coming out, why’s it not accurate, and how limited it is. That’s not good advertising.

Don’t get me wrong, it’s a cracking site, and I drop on every day when new stock’s on the way. Hats off to booboo, you are an invaluable resource!

    • booboo

      November 3rd, 2022 - 12:52pm

I don’t see that as true really, The youtube reviews maybe positive but many of the comments are not, I have seen a lot of backlash recently.

In the past we did comparison pictures with all past figures and a big feature, those posts were completely separate for the stocks arrive posts, not everyone uses forums or youtube (and i have never seen us as forum but more of a news site anyway).

Doesn’t bother me we are considered of no consequence these days though, and for me its all got a bit mirky anyway, lots of cross forum / social media snipping and insults going on, we are better off out of it, especially at comments aimed at this site by one of them. I know the site stats, and will take our 70K – 80K+ map views (googles figures not ours) over a few thousand (or hundred in some cases) youtube reviews for products that most people are going to buy anyway, what we do is help people find the things, that’s more important.

And before anyone mentions scalpers, these people are pros, some clean out entire areas, some trade a private sellers when in fact they are “businesses”.

These people dont need us or anyone else to help them find stock.

    • Bundy

      November 7th, 2022 - 8:35am

A picture paints a thousand words….. I expect most people make a decision on whether to buy or not based on the subject of the sets and the photos they see of them. I much prefer a static page with hi-res photos I can zoom into, especially if they have comparison photos.

This site continues to help me find figures, and in turn pass on sightings to others.

I would presume so. I think this, the 3-figure packs and MAYBE the Davros set will be available on the website.

People on other forums have suggested that the reason why the Dalek packs weren’t listed on the website with the last wave is because the fact that they share barcodes would make it difficult to list them independently. If that’s the case, then I see no reason why the TARDIS set shouldn’t be put up there.

    • booboo

      October 25th, 2022 - 3:56pm

Its not just the bar code but also B&M’s own product code, which are the same, its something i mentioned several times

As for the Tardis, it depends on the quantity, in the past its been around 7000 figure sets, 3500 each of The Dalek Sets and around 4000 Tardis

Based on that they Don’t actually need to sell either online

    • Fin

      October 25th, 2022 - 7:43pm

Interesting, I didn’t realise the bar and product codes were the same somehow. I seldom do a thorough check of the comments so I didn’t know you’d said it before but it’s interesting to know nevertheless.

Would be a real shame if they don’t make it online. I get it from the retailer standpoint but that doesn’t make it any less annoying for fans when scalpers clean up the shelves.

It’s definitely electronic as stated on the packaging. The price was going to be £32.99 and indeed is stated on the price list. But as always things change and in this instance the price for this set has dropped to £24.99. Happy Times and places.
