Doctor Who follows the adventures of the last Time Lord from the planet Gallifrey who simply goes by the name “The Doctor”. At the end of the 2013 season, The Doctor regenerated into his new form and new personality, and is portrayed by legendary Scottish actor Peter Capaldi.

12th-doctor7501

This new incarnation, the Twelfth Doctor, is a spiky, brusque, pragmatic, yet funny, passionate and fearless character who travels with his companion, Clara Oswald. His adventures with (and without) Clara in the 2014 season lead him to make tough and ruthless decisions that make him question his character and the value of his travels.

This all new 5 inch tall figure showcases the new look The Doctor takes on after the regeneration, featuring his now signature dark blue Crombie-style coat with red lining, dark blue trousers, a long collared white shirt buttoned to the top with no tie, and brogue boots. He also comes with his trusty sonic screwdriver.

Not a huge fan of the Capaldi Doctor (seeing how series 9 goes down first), but this figure looks really good!

    1. Its a five inch figure….. Yay!
    2. It looks a bit younger than peter.
    3. Good resemblance of costume.
    4. Sonic accessory.
    5. Bonus if its classed as collector figure.

Only downside is the price really, but obviously the amount of work thats gone into it, kinda makes it worth it.

I would like some advice if its possible, i am in two minds about gettin the Clara (TTOTD) version, matt’s doctor and peter capaldi doctor in 3.75 scale, but they would only be to sit on a display shelf as i am a collector, but cant decide whether or not to get them.

On one hand, all the others i have are 5 inch, so these would be tiny in comparison, but on the other hand, they are for display only as i wouldnt by the in scale TARDIS and only 3 of the enemies look good to me: skovox, the mummy and maybe a dalek.

Must admit tho, like the AOTD Amy Pond.

Id b greatful if anyone can help me decide.

I think we will get the central characters in 5inch, like we are getting 12 and Clara now. I’m also a collector, and I got a 3.75inch Clara, so I got a 11th Doctor, Ice Warrior and Cyberman. I mainly wanted Clara as she was a companion, and now we are getting her in the best scale! So I regret wasting 6.99.
      Hope that was helpful!

Wonder what happened to the other 5″ figures that were shown???

I have a feeling the 4th Doctor Curator Figure & Painting will be a late SDCC Set like last years “The Impossible Set”

Ps. Its £18.49 with postage, I expect it to be £19.99 in the Manchester store. They were more expensive than other FPI’s with the Time of the Doctor set.

Looks like they made this ages ago then downscaled it to the 3.75″ version, looks very similar. I will get one 12th Doctor, want to see what the rest are.

Curious, although I would love one with a waist coat, there is mixed opinion regarding whether they should have gone with a full regular costume or as they have done a standard sculpt to cater for the variations in season 8..

If they did include the waistcoat would people be divided over whether he has the jacket open or the top button/s done up?

To add to this there are at least two further costume variations on the way for season 9.

As for the head sculpt in some respects this still remains to be seen.

It is a lot I agree, but it’s worth it for a few reasons, Mainly the 5” line is dead, so it takes a lot of money for them to reanimate it’s corpse and give us treats like this, second they’re considered more collectors items, the last few 5” range figures have had amazing packaging and decent quality figures (Mostly) I agree it is a lot of money for one figure, but I think it’s worth it.

I thought this was just 4 variants of the 12th Doctor in 5″ format. Nothing about it scream’s Collectors Series to me?

    • DS

      July 21st, 2015 - 9:09pm

‘Collectors series’ is marked on the boxes. It is generally regarded that this is their approach to reboot the 5 inch range.

    • Anonymous

      July 21st, 2015 - 10:50pm

Not a very auspicious start for a supposed ‘Collectors Series’ then?

    • DS

      July 22nd, 2015 - 4:58pm

No it isn’t, there are reasons for this but I am inclined to agree with your analysis.

I hope the head sculpt is superior in reality. Such a serious shouldn’t command patience but some might be needed here.

In terms of the reboot, It is simply a start.

    • DS

      July 22nd, 2015 - 5:12pm

No it isn’t. There are reasons for this however, yet despite this overall I am inclined to agree.

Many of us live in hope regarding the face sculpt and are perhaps extending a measure of patience regarding the reboot.

The curator is one of the best elements, perhaps the flagship of the reboot but ultimately we need to see the figures first.

There is joy, question, doubt, sadness and hope and much more to be had here, kind of typical of Doctor Who 😀

I personally think we should be blooming grateful for what we have here.. So what it doesn’t have a waist coat? if people don’t buy these figures we will not get a collectors Series or any 5 inch figures! you might need to live with that.

Worse comes to worse – Get some Milliput – Sculpt a Cardigan/waistcoat and put it on yourself! Happy Fans!

Sorry to be like this but it annoys me when I read comments on the line of people moaning about 5 inch figures which Al has fighted to get released.

We shouldn’t really need to feel grateful for a figure, we as the customer shouldn’t need to think ‘I have to buy this figure or blank will happen’. or have to improve it when we buy it. If they want us to buy it they need to make us want to buy it (which to be fair they are sort of doing by showing it at SDCC and the 12% off) but the addition of a waistcoat or an accessory would make me buy this in a flash but for now I’ll wait to see the others.

I have to admit perhaps a poor show on the marketing – the fan art was a bash of a selected costume and I think river songs screwdriver or something like that.

Perhaps some more promo shots on the pre-order page would have abated some of the concerns about the head sculpt.

As we know there were limitations on footage from SDCC

      July 27th, 2015 - 11:45am

Yeah, it’s River’s sonic. Also, when did the Doctor give his sonic to River? It’s a modified version of the 10th Doctor’s, but the only two he had in that style were S1-S2 and S2-S5.

They look better in person. Also, either buy it or don’t buy it. People complain about the 3.75 and say they want the 5″ back,… Then when they start releasing 5″ figures, it seems a lot of those same people start complaining about those. It seems that some people will never be happy.

I must have missed it. I didn’t really see any red lining on the inside of the jacket on the picture of the figure, so that confused me. Either way, I’m disappointed with the lack of a waistcoat.

I find it astonishing and I think that UT and character should be ashamed that in the past they have produced such great figures (war Doctor , time of the Doctor set) and now they have got to the this …… People are even planning to spend there OWN money and figure parts just to make this figure better. But they should not have to . This figure should already be on top form . What kind business produces something that people are going to buy but then spend there OWN money to improve it. The figure shouldn’t need any improvements but sadly it does and we are not the ones who should be acting to this errors , UT and character are.

    • DS

      July 21st, 2015 - 6:33pm

Hopefully, as the 5 inch series is re-established/ the collectors series is established elements will be ironed out.

There are a set of circumstances well captured across multiple posts that have contributed to this state of affairs albeit less than ideal.
CO/UT appear to have adopted a strategy with a view to building & maintaining a 5 inch range, this accounts for some of the differences in quality.
The figure may also be better in person, this remains to be seen.

This is a reboot and I am really pleased to have been able to pre order a 12th Doctor like others for my collection.
Like many I have hopes for the future of this range.
