Has anyone found the new CB “Lego” sets in a chain store yet. I have seen dealers selling them for more than 6 weeks, but have yet to see them for myself. I quite fancy the twin pack. I thought it might be John Lewis, but my one has cut back to almost nothing Who-wise.

It was a great British legacy, and had something of everything. There has been nothing since to touch it. When you stop to think about it, there was loads of Doctor Who stuff in there over the years. Videos/dvds, clothing, stationary, toys, Easter eggs, gifts. Some even remember Target paperbacks in there.

The back is horrific. Even less a reason to buy it. (I am not wasting money on something like this, which is in scale with the likes of the hp figures. After a couple of months, they were dirt cheap, so if I finally decide to get these ‘figures’ I think I’ll wait til they are like, three pounds or something)

Oh dear that is rather small isn’t it! I’m not really interested in the action figures at the moment but I had the matt smith 5 inch Tardis and some figures before and I can see that this is clearly a step backwards. I just wish we’d see some announcements of the release dates for the character building summer stuff: Series 7 Tardis interior, multipacks and the 11 doctor set version 2.I saw two of the new multipacks on eBay and it said they were importer preview sets. They were the dalek paradigm and angels in Manhattan farewell pack.

    • Doctorpond393

      May 26th, 2013 - 5:14pm

How exactly in any way is this a step forwards?

    • Scott the Raptor

      May 26th, 2013 - 5:43pm

I have the product and here are the reasons:

1: Without the telephone, the doors can open fully.

2: Much better console insert. (You actually get to see the console this time)

3: The free spinner you get with it.

4: Better detail and more of a wooden effect.

5: When lit, the light has a more effective colour. (White rather than a purpley blue)

6: It is smaller and that means less weight when playing with it.

7: It doesn’t need those small batteries anymore. It uses triple AAA’s.

8: Less of a blue ‘glossy’ paint effect.

      There you go.

    • doctorpond393

      May 26th, 2013 - 7:06pm

      1. Fair enough but i always liked the little door.
      2. You could never see the console when the doors were open in the series so thats down to the set designers not character. Plus on this one the console is way too close to the doors.
      3. ok
      4. I’ll take your word for that.
      5. The light has always been white.
      6. Alright but also means its more brittle and would break easier.
      7. It’s always used AAA’s. Its the sonic screwdrivers that use the small batteries.
      8. Again, I’ll have to take you word for it.

    • Scott the Raptor

      May 26th, 2013 - 7:25pm

The light hasn’t always been as white as it is. The console has always been a part of the TARDIS and for the toy to miss it out wasn’t very nice. Even though you couldn’t see it in the show it would’ve been nice to include it. And it’s not too close to the doors. You just can’t see the railing leading to the console. It doesn’t break easier. It’s just exactly like a smaller Flight Control TARDIS. Only better in my opinion.

    • doctorpond393

      May 26th, 2013 - 7:32pm

All my flight control tardises lights are white. The backdrop is too close because in the show you can see all 3 of the rings at the top of the time rotor. On this you can only see 3/4 of one of them. And if character had included the console in the 2010 one it would have been inaccurate. When the doctor opens the doors in day of the moon you cant see the console so it would have been very wrong and people would probably moan because its inaccurate. And what colour are you FCT lamps then?

    • Scott the Raptor

      May 26th, 2013 - 7:38pm

I told you what colour mine are. And also, it’s not a TARDIS if you can’t see the console. It is merely Bits’s and Bob’s car. You can’t really see any inaccuracies on the rings on the time rotor unless you are looking for them. I think this is a very good product and better than the FCT. It’s just a personal opinion though and it is OK if you disagree.

    • doctorpond393

      May 26th, 2013 - 7:46pm

Yh, I thought it was stupid how in the show you couldnt see the console but i understand why they didnt put it on the toy. And i should have made myself clearer by what i meant by rings. I meant the bits at the top that have the gallifreyan text that spins

    • Andrew

      May 27th, 2013 - 10:55am

In reply to Scott Raptor’s “step forward” post, ahem, interior lighting? Character have been taking steps back since 2010.

    • the astronaut of death

      May 27th, 2013 - 11:04am

yeah I agree it took them 2 years to release a Rory figure . a rather bit of the series 5 figures we did not need they were just random characters. we got barley any series 6 part 2 figures . and the 2010 flight control tardis lost loads of good feachers it had in the 2005 one . and then they change the scale ruining loads of peoples figure collections and now most people are waiting for a 2013 tardis play set witch we will probably have to wait for ever for.

    • Andrew

      May 27th, 2013 - 11:09am

I don’t necessarily think its the reduction in size that is the problem, I think its the reduction in detail.

    • Scott the Raptor

      May 27th, 2013 - 1:41pm

Erm, Andrew, this console room shouldn’t have lighting. The light came from the sides and the time rotor in the actual BBC set.

    • Andrew

      May 27th, 2013 - 5:01pm

So you’re saying it was accurate to have a bright white-blue light in the original and best Flight Control TARDIS? No, but it made it A LOT better.

And that is where you are wrong. The interior lighting in the original FC TARDIS was added to make the windows and “Police Box” lettering light up, as it does in the actual show (and as it has done on this series, so therefore your point is invalid).

    • Scott the Raptor

      May 27th, 2013 - 6:45pm

But you see, you don’t have the product. Until you have the product, I will not reply to you. It is pointless arguing with you when you don’t have anything to talk about.

So, until you have the product, the Spin and Fly TARDIS is the best one CO have produced in my opinion.

    • Andrew

      May 27th, 2013 - 9:42pm

Okay first of all, how would you know if I did or did not have the product? Exactly, you don’t.

And why should I need to have bought this product to know what is has and doesn’t have? I can read. I can see pictures. I can watch videos. I know exactly what this product looks like and what features it contains, I don’t need to buy it. That was a very dumb statement.

Its easy to see that this is just the 2010 Flight Control TARDIS but smaller and with a new interior background. That’s it.

    • Scott the Raptor

      May 27th, 2013 - 9:53pm

But you don’t have this product, do you?

You need to have the product in hand to see the wooden effect. It is much better than the previous TARDISes.

And altogether, calling me dumb is very stupid. I don’t mean to be offensive, but I don’t really care about those pointless remarks or yourself acting like a little child. I don’t know why I am wasting my time squabbling with you like we are two years old to be honest.

And how is this ‘just the 2010 Flight Control TARDIS but smaller)?

      1. This comes with the spinner

    • Scott the Raptor

      May 27th, 2013 - 9:57pm

      (Continued)

      2. A different font for the ‘Police Public Call Box’ sign

      3. A more wooden effect

      4. A different kind of blue paint

      5. I don’t know what it is, but this TARDIS seems to have a much better feel to it.

    • Andrew

      May 27th, 2013 - 10:07pm

While that all looks nice standing on a shelf while its doing nothing, you gotta admit that it looks boring after a while when switched on and all that lights up is the lantern, when in the show (if I recall correctly, I could be wrong and the windows may not have been lit up since Series 3 or 4) the windows are lit up as well.

    • Scott the Raptor

      May 27th, 2013 - 10:12pm

Although you are right, I think CO had a certain budget to stick to on this. For what it is, I think it’s a good product.

    • matt9982

      May 27th, 2013 - 10:17pm

I agree with scot the raptor

    • doctorpond393

      May 27th, 2013 - 10:23pm

I agree for the size its good but the step backwards is the scale change.

    • Andrew

      May 27th, 2013 - 10:26pm

Although you are right, personally I feel that CO should allow bigger budgets to create better quality toys. Maybe I sound like I’m clinging to the past, but I’m sure that most people would rather buy the 2005 TARDIS control room over the 2010 TARDIS control room, purely for the fact that the 2005 one was electronic, and the 2010 one wasn’t.

Again, personally I feel that the original Flight Control TARDIS was far superior to the later ones purely due to the interior lighting. Maybe its just me, and other people can take it or leave it,

    • Andrew

      May 27th, 2013 - 10:27pm

      (continued)

but I feel that the original is truly superior to the later two.

Just reading these comments from yesterday makes me wonder why we are acting like little children in a childish squabble over something as minor as the aesthetics. I apologise for my behaviour.

My first ever Doctor Who figures were from woolies.

I remember in 2011 it took ages before the 2011 figures appeared in stores, now, normally there is a delay in my town, but this was rediculous.

Finally I got a Silent in argos, and Cybermatt’s in sainsburies for 3.99, but that was after January and they were the only stores but FP and TRU who had them.

Oh, character have annoyed me very much! First they tell me that there is a door release button on this when there isn’t and then they go and call the doctor figure “doctor who” on their website. False advertising

Great vid. And I have a question. When I emailed character asking about this they told me there was a button on the interior for the spring loaded doors. Is there and if so where is it?

    • Jamie

      May 25th, 2013 - 11:01pm

There is no button inside for the doors, you have to pull the doors themselves.

My independant toy store just in the city centre, it always seems to get stock in early, got the End of Time wave early when it was released as the store got them in, hoping the same is going to happen with the new figures. But the guys that run it are lovely fellas, and are more than willing to order figures in for me, which I really love!
