Doctor Who 12th Doctor’s Sonic Screwdriver

Doctor Who 12th Doctor’s Sonic Screwdriver

This is the same as the 11th Doctors Sonic Screwdriver but with Twelfth Doctor labelled packaging.

Available from www.thewhoshop.com

Also currently for sale by various sellers on www.ebay.co.uk

The Doctor’s multipurpose tool is a Gallifreyan device, with numerous settings, easily controlled at the press of his thumb. The Doctor has had many sonic screwdrivers of different designs throughout his life, and this one was created from within the TARDIS console itself after the previous one was destroyed during a confrontation with Prisoner Zero in the village of Leadworth.

11th_dr_Sonic_Screwdriver_300

This sonic is larger, with a luminous green light but continues to be an essential part of the Doctor’s equipment as he explores the universe.

This faithful copy of the Doctor’s trusty Sonic Device has spring loaded extending action. Pressing the button on the side of the handle activates the LED and Sound FX which operates in CLOSED mode. Flip open the cap at the end of the Screwdriver to reveal an additional button that activates the light and sound effects when it is in full extension OPEN mode.

For ages 5 years and over.

I ordered the Touch Control Sonic on amazon and they sent me this one, the standard release. So I advise to avoid amazon until the Screwdriver is actually properly released :3

you do know they’re releasing a Twelfth Doctor Touch Control Sonic Screwdriver in August? I’s like this one just with one button to extend it and then you grip the leather part to activate it, extended or un-extended so that’s good news.

Do you know what would’ve made this a “worth-it release”?

If Character Toys had fixed the previous issues, instead of just slapping “Twetlth” on the packaging!

I bet you anything that the handle button will still be in the wrong position, and that the handle button will STILL not work in extended mode without some sort of modification! >:-(

I bet it won’t have updated light features either, as seen in the following episodes:
    “Cold War” = Red setting
“Journey To The Centre Of The TARDIS” = Blue setting

    Character Toys, STOP BEING LAZY!!!

      August 29th, 2014 - 7:48pm

Ryan Smith, the review you watched is not of this version.

There are quite a few different versions.
      4 as it happens.

-Basic 11th/12th Doctor sonic (handle button does not work in extended mode)

-Wave 2/3 version (does not have an extending mode)

-One button version (the button on the handle works in closed and extended mode)

-Touch control version (extension button only on the handle. The top and bottom of the black part need to be pressed at the same time to work)

As said, the review you watched is of the one button version. Not this 1

Undoubtedly, the show is still going to have new fans both old and young and when they want to buy a Screwdriver they’d be familiar with the packaginging saying “Twelfth” and will comfortably match it with the Twelfth being their first Doctor. Obviously longer fans are not going to have a benefit with this but still enjoy the same toy, unless you are a strict in box collector.

So let me get this straight. This is basically the Eleventh Doctor’s Screwdriver except somebody stuck a “Twelth” over where the Eleventh should be and that’s it? What’s the point?!

      June 17th, 2014 - 10:16pm

The same reason they released the Eleventh Doctors sonic screwdriver, and every other sonic screwdriver – this is simply replacing Eleven’s screwdriver. If Capaldi is going to use it, which he does, then they NEED to sell it as the Twelfth’s sonic as Eleven is no longer around.

They would have done the same with Nine and Ten’s sonics, if the original toy sold as Nine’s was correct, which it wasn’t.

    • CassiusX

      June 17th, 2014 - 10:28pm

Fair point. But fans are still going to look at this toy as the Eleventh Doctor’s screwdriver and even if this new release has some subtle tweaks like extra sound effects, fans are still going to call it the Eleventh Doctor’s sonic screwdriver. Just watching some videos on YouTube shows how angry some of the fans are about Capaldi not having a different sonic screwdriver. I’m not really that bothered by it but I can see how other people will feel as they were expecting a new screwdriver.

    • Sam Richard Bentley

      June 17th, 2014 - 11:19pm

I don’t think it will matter. Three, Four and Five all had the same sonic, with minor paint alterations, and Nine and Ten has the same one.

And yes, you are right, for some times they will call it ‘Eleven’s Sonic’ – until the next one comes along, or Capaldi gets a new one in Series 9.

I think this re-release makes perfect sense, and I don’t see why everyone has problem with it.

It’s almost like having the Series 8 opening titles sat ‘Matt Smith’ not ‘Peter Capaldi’ – it doesn’t make sense if they don’t change it!

    • CG

      June 18th, 2014 - 2:49pm

9 and 10 had the same but was released many, many times (Still being released) 🙂 but I do like 10s sonic.

    • Kelvin

      June 19th, 2014 - 8:06pm

Nine’s was not the same as Ten’s. 9’s was a Beige no crackle effect. 10′ s version one was Beige with a crackle effect. 10’s version two was Grey with a crackle effect. 10’s version three (Day of the Doctor) is a yellowish crackle version.

    • 100000BC

      June 19th, 2014 - 8:19pm

People refer to 9 and 10’s TARDIS as the “10th doctor’s” rather than the “9th doctor’s” as they do with their screwdriver. If Capaldi doesn’t get a new screwdriver within his first couple of seasons, and if the 13th Doctor doesn’t keep it for the whole of his run, and particularly if he is generally more favoured than Smith was (like Tennant was generally favoured over Eccleston), it will probably end up becoming a “Twelfth Doctor” or “Peter Capaldi” sonic screwdriver. He will be the one we remember more clearly using it.

    • Sam Richard Bentley

      June 19th, 2014 - 8:20pm

Kelvin, I think you are being unnecessarily pedantic; essentially they had the same screwdriver, didn’t they?

    • 100000BC

      June 19th, 2014 - 8:23pm

And before you tell me that 9 and 10’s screwdrivers were different, they are basically the same shape and design, especially to the eye of the public/casual viewer/children/generally people who don’t pay as much attention as us, who also have an opinion and think they look the same.

    • 100000BC

      June 19th, 2014 - 8:23pm

There’s strong implication her NotD appearance has been River’s last (though that’s still up in the air, admitedly), and the Sonic scene may not happen since it appeared Moffat brushed over that final meeting of the Doctor and River in one of the Series 6 DVD shorts.

They fixed the sound chip back when they released it for the second time. But I hoping too that it might have a less powerful spring – it ruins the clasps at the top and looks wrong.

the new release of the screwdriver incorporates a new button, which both works when the sonic is in its extended position and when its closed. They have removed the red button at the bottom making the sonic more accurate to the show. Now all cosplayers will be able to work the sonic easier, so I guess character options have made a good change to a annoying problem, but Im not buying a new sonic screwdriver that is pretty much the same as the one I have and I would rather have it with the red button.

The only reason I MAY buy one of these is because my Eleventh Doctor sonic is a bit worn-out now, the clasps at the top are too out and it just doesn’t look right.

Alternatively I’ll just keep the one I have as these are the most expensive of all the sonics, well – apart from the War Doctors.
