Doctor Who 12th Doctor’s Sonic Screwdriver
Doctor Who 12th Doctor’s Sonic Screwdriver
This is the same as the 11th Doctors Sonic Screwdriver but with Twelfth Doctor labelled packaging.
Available from www.thewhoshop.com
Also currently for sale by various sellers on www.ebay.co.uk
The Doctor’s multipurpose tool is a Gallifreyan device, with numerous settings, easily controlled at the press of his thumb. The Doctor has had many sonic screwdrivers of different designs throughout his life, and this one was created from within the TARDIS console itself after the previous one was destroyed during a confrontation with Prisoner Zero in the village of Leadworth.
This sonic is larger, with a luminous green light but continues to be an essential part of the Doctor’s equipment as he explores the universe.
This faithful copy of the Doctor’s trusty Sonic Device has spring loaded extending action. Pressing the button on the side of the handle activates the LED and Sound FX which operates in CLOSED mode. Flip open the cap at the end of the Screwdriver to reveal an additional button that activates the light and sound effects when it is in full extension OPEN mode.
For ages 5 years and over.

August 20th, 2014 - 1:53pmI ordered the Touch Control Sonic on amazon and they sent me this one, the standard release. So I advise to avoid amazon until the Screwdriver is actually properly released :3

June 25th, 2014 - 8:55pmyou do know they’re releasing a Twelfth Doctor Touch Control Sonic Screwdriver in August? I’s like this one just with one button to extend it and then you grip the leather part to activate it, extended or un-extended so that’s good news.

June 25th, 2014 - 9:24pmits been on the site for days

June 25th, 2014 - 9:31pmI must admit – it is a little but odd how they are releasing the two versions so close together – now I don’t see the point in the re-release. I did before – but not now.

June 21st, 2014 - 11:02pmMy mother after hearing he keeps 11’s , she said its an insult. I am a huge fan of 11. But my God this is shocking.

June 20th, 2014 - 11:58pmGuys, don’t complain! WHat’s the point of selling it as the 11th doctor’s sonic when he isn’t around anymore?
GallifreyanKnight
June 20th, 2014 - 3:03pmDo you know what would’ve made this a “worth-it release”?
If Character Toys had fixed the previous issues, instead of just slapping “Twetlth” on the packaging!
I bet you anything that the handle button will still be in the wrong position, and that the handle button will STILL not work in extended mode without some sort of modification! >:-(
I bet it won’t have updated light features either, as seen in the following episodes:
“Cold War” = Red setting
“Journey To The Centre Of The TARDIS” = Blue setting
Character Toys, STOP BEING LAZY!!!

August 25th, 2014 - 3:15pmTheres a review on youtube of this sonic and the button works in extended and normal mode with no button on the bottom 😀
Angry Buyer
August 29th, 2014 - 7:33pmI bought it… apparently this and the one button one are different. This is 11’s
GallifreyanKnight
August 29th, 2014 - 7:48pmRyan Smith, the review you watched is not of this version.
There are quite a few different versions.
4 as it happens.
-Basic 11th/12th Doctor sonic (handle button does not work in extended mode)
-Wave 2/3 version (does not have an extending mode)
-One button version (the button on the handle works in closed and extended mode)
-Touch control version (extension button only on the handle. The top and bottom of the black part need to be pressed at the same time to work)
As said, the review you watched is of the one button version. Not this 1

June 18th, 2014 - 7:52amUndoubtedly, the show is still going to have new fans both old and young and when they want to buy a Screwdriver they’d be familiar with the packaginging saying “Twelfth” and will comfortably match it with the Twelfth being their first Doctor. Obviously longer fans are not going to have a benefit with this but still enjoy the same toy, unless you are a strict in box collector.
booboo
June 18th, 2014 - 9:05amyes i think some people forget that their are new fans each year who may not have bought the original
Jason Walker
June 18th, 2014 - 7:44amI just bought the Eleventh screwdriver. It had the same packaging as this, but said Eleventh Doctor instead of Twelfth Doctor. I feel like I need this for display purpose.
CassiusX
June 17th, 2014 - 10:07pmSo let me get this straight. This is basically the Eleventh Doctor’s Screwdriver except somebody stuck a “Twelth” over where the Eleventh should be and that’s it? What’s the point?!
Sam Richard Bentley
June 17th, 2014 - 10:16pmThe same reason they released the Eleventh Doctors sonic screwdriver, and every other sonic screwdriver – this is simply replacing Eleven’s screwdriver. If Capaldi is going to use it, which he does, then they NEED to sell it as the Twelfth’s sonic as Eleven is no longer around.
They would have done the same with Nine and Ten’s sonics, if the original toy sold as Nine’s was correct, which it wasn’t.
CassiusX
June 17th, 2014 - 10:28pmFair point. But fans are still going to look at this toy as the Eleventh Doctor’s screwdriver and even if this new release has some subtle tweaks like extra sound effects, fans are still going to call it the Eleventh Doctor’s sonic screwdriver. Just watching some videos on YouTube shows how angry some of the fans are about Capaldi not having a different sonic screwdriver. I’m not really that bothered by it but I can see how other people will feel as they were expecting a new screwdriver.
Sam Richard Bentley
June 17th, 2014 - 11:19pmI don’t think it will matter. Three, Four and Five all had the same sonic, with minor paint alterations, and Nine and Ten has the same one.
And yes, you are right, for some times they will call it ‘Eleven’s Sonic’ – until the next one comes along, or Capaldi gets a new one in Series 9.
I think this re-release makes perfect sense, and I don’t see why everyone has problem with it.
It’s almost like having the Series 8 opening titles sat ‘Matt Smith’ not ‘Peter Capaldi’ – it doesn’t make sense if they don’t change it!
CG
June 18th, 2014 - 2:49pm9 and 10 had the same but was released many, many times (Still being released) 🙂 but I do like 10s sonic.
Kelvin
June 19th, 2014 - 8:06pmNine’s was not the same as Ten’s. 9’s was a Beige no crackle effect. 10′ s version one was Beige with a crackle effect. 10’s version two was Grey with a crackle effect. 10’s version three (Day of the Doctor) is a yellowish crackle version.
100000BC
June 19th, 2014 - 8:19pmPeople refer to 9 and 10’s TARDIS as the “10th doctor’s” rather than the “9th doctor’s” as they do with their screwdriver. If Capaldi doesn’t get a new screwdriver within his first couple of seasons, and if the 13th Doctor doesn’t keep it for the whole of his run, and particularly if he is generally more favoured than Smith was (like Tennant was generally favoured over Eccleston), it will probably end up becoming a “Twelfth Doctor” or “Peter Capaldi” sonic screwdriver. He will be the one we remember more clearly using it.
Sam Richard Bentley
June 19th, 2014 - 8:20pmKelvin, I think you are being unnecessarily pedantic; essentially they had the same screwdriver, didn’t they?
100000BC
June 19th, 2014 - 8:23pmAnd before you tell me that 9 and 10’s screwdrivers were different, they are basically the same shape and design, especially to the eye of the public/casual viewer/children/generally people who don’t pay as much attention as us, who also have an opinion and think they look the same.
100000BC
June 19th, 2014 - 8:23pmHaha, we both said essentially the same thing at the same time!
Aspire
June 17th, 2014 - 9:45pmNo chance of a new sonic for Capaldi then. 🙁
booboo
June 17th, 2014 - 9:47pmcould be later on in the series, we just don’t know
Kelvin
June 19th, 2014 - 8:12pmI am curious when we will see The Doctor giving Riversong his Sonic Screwdriver. It did say that he actually gave her his Sonic Screwdriver but Riversongs Sonic looked more like David Tennant’s Sonic than Matt Smith’s.
Drewsko
June 20th, 2014 - 4:53amThere’s strong implication her NotD appearance has been River’s last (though that’s still up in the air, admitedly), and the Sonic scene may not happen since it appeared Moffat brushed over that final meeting of the Doctor and River in one of the Series 6 DVD shorts.
The Holographic Doctor
June 17th, 2014 - 8:27pmWrong logo to be the Twelfth Doctors , Character Options have become so cheap !
booboo
June 17th, 2014 - 8:37pmno doubt this will appear in series 8 packaging at some stage
The Living Shadow
June 17th, 2014 - 6:30pmHopefully this will have a fixed soundchip, less powerful spring and £12 or under. I’m kinda disappointed that there’s no new box art or anything, just 1 new word. :/
Sam Richard Bentley
June 17th, 2014 - 6:32pmThey fixed the sound chip back when they released it for the second time. But I hoping too that it might have a less powerful spring – it ruins the clasps at the top and looks wrong.
Docta Who Fan
July 25th, 2014 - 10:20amthe new release of the screwdriver incorporates a new button, which both works when the sonic is in its extended position and when its closed. They have removed the red button at the bottom making the sonic more accurate to the show. Now all cosplayers will be able to work the sonic easier, so I guess character options have made a good change to a annoying problem, but Im not buying a new sonic screwdriver that is pretty much the same as the one I have and I would rather have it with the red button.

June 17th, 2014 - 6:28pmAnd so people can buy this screwdriver, if they don’t have it already. All this is doing is simple replacing the Eleventh Doctor sonic toy. That’s all. They aren’t selling both at the same time as different products.

June 23rd, 2014 - 4:55pmPeople have had 4 damn years to get 11’s screwdriver. Character is just after money (a bit like apple nowadays.)

June 17th, 2014 - 5:11pmAnyone else get the feeling that they’re getting desperate?
Sam Richard Bentley
June 17th, 2014 - 5:21pmWhy? This makes perfect sense. Now, people can buy the 11/12th Doctors sonic screwdriver, if they missed out the first time, and didn’t want to buy the one from the Wave 2 of the Sonic Screwdriver range.

June 17th, 2014 - 9:38pmTbh no, it’s just a replacement for the previous sonic to go with Tje new doctor

June 17th, 2014 - 4:56pmshould be very very soon
Sam Richard Bentley
June 17th, 2014 - 4:49pmThe only reason I MAY buy one of these is because my Eleventh Doctor sonic is a bit worn-out now, the clasps at the top are too out and it just doesn’t look right.
Alternatively I’ll just keep the one I have as these are the most expensive of all the sonics, well – apart from the War Doctors.
