I hope they use the cover shown here. If you click through to FP or Amazon, its a different cover which isn’t as nice. (In my opinion )

The other cover you’ve seen is the temp art, which was also on this page originally. So you’ll get the cover you prefer – I wonder who the artist is?

Interesting that they’ve taken Alan Moore’s name off it, but par for the course with him these days.

Wonder if that means the two uncollected strips are not included. Any info on what’s included?

He is distancing himself from the comic world. Which essentially means no reprints of his work

He is distancing himself from the comic world which generally means he won’t allow reprints of his old work

David Lloyd still listed, so his story will be included. He typically requests to have his name removed, or to be credited as “The Original Writer”.

Panini are also offering a free art print of the cover – though they are the most expensive place to buy from.

It would be great if this and the Dalek ones were sold digitally through Pocketmags. Not sure why they arent.

Just put in my pre-order. This was a definite get for me because the only strip in this collection I think I had read was the Kroton one and, if it’s there, the one strip where the 4th Doctor encounters a Tenth Planet style mashup Cyberman. I think that strip may have been called Junkyard? Not sure.

Junkyard Demon, no? I don’t remember it being mashup and not just Mondasian, but then it’s decades since I read it…

    • Bookcollector

      June 28th, 2023 - 9:30pm

Junkyard demon features mondaisian cybermen. Kroton was a later style cyberman who starred in two backup strips before (many years later) joining the 8th doctor and izzy on their travels

I used the term mashup because though the basic body design was Tenth Planet, its arm mounted laser weapons were more from The Moonbase. But, it’s been a decade since I read the strip, so my memory could be off. Though the Wiffle ball type mounts on the Moonbase Cyberman arms were never shown firing, it can be inferred they were intended to be weapons. As I believe they were depicted in Junkyard Demon. Although, The Moonbase Cybermen had some kind of wand type weapon they wielded in their hands.

Kroton was the Throwback: The Soul Of A Cyberman story, right? I am familiar with that strip because it got reprinted in Marvel US’s Doctor Who comic. I remember buying it off the stands new in the 80’s. Junkyard Demon also got reprinted in the US comic.

For those in the US looking to order one, this is currently available for pre-order from either PreviewsWorld’s web site or ComicHub. Depending on how your local comic book store operates, they accept orders from either one of those sites. It’s scheduled for a November release date, but the release schedule for the 2 Dalek comic strips collection put them about 2 months past the solicited release date. Which is normal for import stuff.

I’d buy reprints of all of the TV Comic/Action strips.

If they could throw in the 8th Doctor Radio Times strips that’d be fried gold.

This sounds gorgeous even if it’s collecting stuff. I wonder if Panini are holding off 13th Doctors final book by putting 14th Dr inside it too. as it’s linked at the start and we don’t yet know how it’s going to finish, but there will be 13 episodes, bumps up the 13th Doctor who had a blip of missing months due to economic factors.

Cybermen : it’s £28.75 at Hive books who support independent bookshops around the country.

I jmahine the Amazon price will fall in time. I got both Dalek books from books Etc for £12.99 each when first released.not up there yet.

I imagine the plan is to do a Liberation of the Daleks graphic novel, since that comic would be the most marketable one to stick on the front. Presumably the 13th Doctor comics would come within, as well as Monstrous Beauty and Doom’s Day and Peter Cushing ones.

Somebody from Panini said on Facebook that a new 4th Doctor set was coming in November – so I’d imagine it’ll be:

      August – Ultimate Cybermen
November – 4th Doctor Collection (inc. The Star Beast?)
Early 2024 – Liberation of the Daleks
Mid 2025 – next Ultimate book (generic returning monsters?)

The 4th Doctor volume could also feature Alan Moore’s stuff if he’s now allowing Marvel UK material to be reprinted. The old collection of Weekly material is now OOP I think, so I’d be very happy with a new, more complete version to tie in with the 60th’s use of the comic characters.

Hmm…mistress of Chaos hat 18 issues – The missing 13th Dr DWM Strips + Monstrous Beauty + cushing + liberation would be 36 issues – so i don‘t get it what Keeps Them from releasing a 13th vol. 2

@Anthony G I Wonder if the 4th Doctor Book maybe an indication that they are producing “Special Editions” of Any Doctor Who Graphic Novel not including the Commentary Section that became regular to graphic Novels from The Eight Doctor Adventures onwards (eg, “The Iron Legion”, “Dragon’s Claw”, “The Tides of Time”, [the three prior to EDA1: “Endgame”] and “Voyager” and “The World Shapers” which followed EDA4: “The Flood”)
I Have Wished this would happen for a While…

My Theory, based in what still has not been published yet, was this:

      Doctor Who – Hydra’s Gate
      Thirteenth Doctor Volume 2

      The Piggybackers – 549-552
      The White Dragon – 559-562
      The Forest Bride – 570-571
      It’s Behind you! – 572
      Hydra’s Gate – 574-577

      Doctor Who – Monstrous Beauty
      Multi-doctor volume 5

      Monstrous Beauty – 9th Doctor – 556-558
The Man in the Ion Mask – 3rd Doctor – Winter 1991
City of Devils – no Doctor, with companions – Holiday 1992
      Are You Listening? – 1st Doctor – Summer 1994
      Younger and Wiser – 7th Doctor – Summer 1994
      Plastic Millenium – 7th Doctor – Winter 1994
      The Seventh Segment – 4th Doctor – Summer 1995
Daleks vs the Martians – Dr Who – Spring 1996
Dr. Who & the Mechonoids – Dr Who – 578
      Fear of the Future – 13th Doctor – 579
      The Everlasting Summer – 13th Doctor – 580-583

Doctor Who – Liberation of the Daleks
      The complete Fourteenth Doctor

      Liberation of the Daleks – 14º Doutor – 584-596

Hive don’t exactly *support* local bookshops.

They’re Gardners who are (with the fall of Bertrams) the only book distributor left in the UK. Hive is their ‘friendly front’ and really weird because they supply the books themselves.

As a once bookshop owner I couldn’t really figure out where the benefit was for us in using Hive since we got 15% for a sale through them or 30% for a direct sale through our own shop.

Well that’s a big price tag. Unfortunately it puts this very much in the nice but unaffordable bracket. I know it has a huge page count (380 apparently) but it’s just too expensive. Especially as the majority of the material will have been released in books I already have. There are only four backup strips. Soul of a cyberman and ship of fools have been collected before. Deathworld and black legacy are the only uncollected strips and much as I want them, at £34.99 I can’t warrant it for just two strips equalling around 48 pages. I have to say I’d rather panini did the next Jodie book than reissue material we have already bought.

I was wondering when the Cybermen strips would turn up & look forward to seeing which strips will be in it? Hopefully this won’t be the final cover as it’s awful!. At least they made an effort with the 2 Dalek Books.

The Dalek covers were so beautiful! I’d be really surprised if this is the final cover… half those Cyber-designs haven’t even been in strips, whereas the Dalek covers were quite specific about featuring story-specific designs, including the Dogs of Doom Daleks in their US reprint colours.

      June 28th, 2023 - 4:45pm

Wow, I’d missed that – Alan Moore always used to block his UK Marvel stuff because he didn’t like how the UK boss had been treated. So either there’s a loophole or he’s softened his stance. (Someone told him it’s 100% Panini now?)
