Can’t wait to get this! It’s a shame that they aren’t secretly sneaking on a recently recovered episodes 1 and 3 πŸ™ I’m not saying that they’ve found them, I’m saying it’s a shame that they haven’t and aren’t able to sneak them on. Oh well. Still can’t wait to see the animation!! The Reign of Terror wasn’t bad, The Tenth Planet had a slightly improved quality. Lets hope The Moonbase will be EVEN BETTER!

Urm… episode 1 has been out for ages for of course they’re gonna release it

no it hasn’t. They’ve only got episodes 2 and 4, and are animating 1 and 3… unless you know otherwise?

Hey guys! My new username is Doctor, 14th; it used to be Doctor, 14th. Same sofware, new casing. πŸ˜‰

Anyway, I’ve ordered The Seeds of Death (2003 DVD), The Moonbase, The Time of the Doctor (Blu-Ray) and The Web of Fear (BBC Exclusive). These are my final Doctor Who DVD’s that I will be getting. I’m only collecting the DVD’s that I really enjoyed. It’s been wonderful open up my Doctor Who DVD’s and I’ll cherish it when I receive my final ones. :,)

I think the price will drop by release date – they usually start at about the price it’s currently listed and then drop down a couple of pounds (usually, but sorry if that doesn’t happen)

Doctor who archive reporting that underwater menace will be animated and animation is in the early stages http://doctorwhoarchive.com/2013/12/19/underwater-meance-to-be-animated-full-moonbase-dvd-details/

    • THE ERGON

      December 23rd, 2013 - 1:08pm

I thought theyd completed the animation. Its taking long enough to complete 2 episodes considering we,ve been waiting since 2011.

    • gordon

      December 23rd, 2013 - 4:15pm

It was the restoration work of the existingg eps and grading of the extras that is complete. It’s taking so long as planet 55 studios was busy with animating reign 10th planet and moonbase.

    • THE ERGON

      December 23rd, 2013 - 5:52pm

Its a slow process then.It takes quite some time to animate 5 episodes.

  • Radburn

    December 19th, 2013 - 8:22pm

So really all this is a case of ‘Don’t hold your breath’ for the moment – But as the saying goes ‘Never Say Never Again’…

    • Johnny

      December 20th, 2013 - 8:38am

Don’t hold your breath about what?

    • Radburn

      December 20th, 2013 - 11:06am

About what will or won’t be released?

Or what has been found & what hasn’t?

I don’t believe any of it, until it is actually out on the shelf to buy…

    • Some bloke

      December 20th, 2013 - 11:40am

      what makes you say that?

    • booboo

      December 20th, 2013 - 11:43am

this conversion some of which was deleted was about missing episodes

    • Some bloke

      December 20th, 2013 - 11:47am

but it’s silly booboo, we all know what this release is, so why should Radburn speculate otherwise?

    • booboo

      December 20th, 2013 - 11:50am

his comments were about someone else’s speculation on missing episodes, not this specific release, the original posts were deleted as it got out of hand so you arereading this post out of context

    • Some bloke

      December 20th, 2013 - 12:05pm

      oh I see πŸ™‚

    • Radburn

      December 20th, 2013 - 5:15pm

Booboo is quite correct – But let me clarify further: It is quite pointless to say anything one way or the other on any further releases or re-releases as SE – No one & I do mean no one has any definite ‘correct’ information on what will or won’t happen with the DVD line – That lies entirely with the upper echelons of the BBC who can make any decision they want now, in the next 5 years or whenever? ‘The Moonbase’ is done & dusted. The rest is speculation until; as I’ve said before, you can take it off the shelf & enjoy it at home…

    • Anonymous

      December 28th, 2013 - 6:25pm

Actually they’ve said the line is over as of The Underwater Menace. Any further releases will not be part of the main line and are being handled by BBC Worldwide themselves rather than being dealt with by the separate group.

There will not be any more special editions, just repackaged old episodes (and anything that is recovered in the purely hypothetical situation).

    • Radburn

      December 28th, 2013 - 8:16pm

      No

    • gordon

      December 28th, 2013 - 8:58pm

Anonymous is pretty much bang on with what I’ve heard and been told about the future of the dvd line. Pupltd/dan hall involvement ends with underwater mence and all future releases will be handled by bbc worldwide and will be mimimal extras and no more special editions are being planned (rummer is they jjust aarent selling enough copies) . Another point worth making tv centre of the universe part 2 which was hosted by peter Davison has unseen behind scene footage of earthshock will be on the underwater menace dvd.

    • Radburn

      December 28th, 2013 - 10:07pm

      No again

    • gordon

      December 28th, 2013 - 10:24pm

      How no

    • Radburn

      December 30th, 2013 - 5:03am

I read a lot – It does not mean that everything I read is true or correct. Sometimes what is written is an outright lie, some of it is just incorrect, some is only a half-truth, some is wish fulfillment or especially viable is what ‘someone’ want’s to be true? What is said & what is done can be an entirely different matter? Fortunately I don’t want to kill off other people’s wishes or dreams either so I don’t use the crystal ball anymore…

    • gordon

      December 30th, 2013 - 10:55am

Im only reporting what dan hall has been stating at recent conventions so its not as if I got the info from a crystal ball

    • Radburn

      December 31st, 2013 - 3:39am

With the caveat lector “Let the reader beware” reporting what was stated doesn’t imply absolute truth? I have reported many things & to the best of my knowledge they are ‘true’ at that moment in time. Especially if I actually have the ‘item’ in hand or it’s being sent to me – Again some things I can refer to that actually never happen, in particular release dates or production. It doesn’t mean it won’t change down the line?

    December 18th, 2013 - 4:46pm

Since there is not many more DVDs to releases who thinks the video spin offs from the 90s should be released (EG:Downtime,Probe etc)

    • Existent Being

      December 18th, 2013 - 5:40pm

I would like Ian Levine’s edited Downtime to be released, and have other 90’s spin offs edited like this. I would also like Christopher Eccleston’s season to be brought out individually in classic series DVD format, with special features. It seems a bit to soon for David Tennant though.

    • gordon

      December 18th, 2013 - 6:31pm

you can buy a lot of the spin offs including probe from the galaxy4 webshop. Downtime I believe has rights issues preventing a dvd release. You won’t get any of ians projects on dvd excluding Planet of giants recon. Based upon a trailer he put on YouTubeMost are pretty dire with the exclusion of shada which is good but nowhere near as good as some have claimed and mission to the unknown which is only ok.

    • CyberSutekh

      December 19th, 2013 - 8:19pm

Existent Being:Yeah, would love to have single New Series stories. They could do a Weeping Angels box set.

  • drjakeyoung

    December 18th, 2013 - 2:11pm

@Gordon, is it possible that when Dan Hall leaves, another person could take over and maybe continue the range if BBC worldwide would allow it? (god hope it’s not Ian Levine)

    • gordon

      December 18th, 2013 - 3:52pm

Going by how Bbcww handled web and enemy without dan I think future releases beyond moonbase and menace will be handled entirely by Bbcww and will be extraless.

  • Maxp

    December 17th, 2013 - 11:45pm

They should now start animating the Big Finish stories! πŸ™‚

    • gordon

Don’t think they are allowed with their liecence. It’s for audio only.

  • Ben Roberts

Does anyone know if Enemy of the World will be released with features?

    • gordon

      December 17th, 2013 - 11:48pm

No its not as its not a dan hall/pupltd /bbcww produced release. Bbc ww produced it independently without dan hall/ pup ltd. That’s why there is no extras or animation for web part 3 and the artwork is different.

    • Ben Roberts

      December 18th, 2013 - 9:08am

      That is extremely disappointing .-.

    • Johnny

      December 18th, 2013 - 4:18pm

@ Ben Robetrs – You should be grateful to be able to see the story at all.

    • Ben Roberts

    December 17th, 2013 - 10:06pm

Would anyone convince the BBC to release the animated ‘mission to the unknown’ episode.

Anyone who has watched it would know that it is a great episode!

    • gordon

      December 17th, 2013 - 10:19pm

It’s ok but nothing special plus its not worth releasing on its own. Also there is nothing suitable to pair it with Plus is it really worth releasing and selling it in shops when its readily available freely online.

    • Connor

      December 17th, 2013 - 10:41pm

I think they should release on DVD! I downloaded the animated episode on a dvd and put a Mission to the unknown cover art on the case and it looks great on the shelf! they should release it in a box set with a story that could get a special edition release like The Dalek invasion of Earth! that would be awesome and it would help sell a special edition of that story aswell as have mission to the unknown on our shelfs! The box set could be a Dalek boxset!

    • gordon

      December 17th, 2013 - 10:44pm

But as I’ve already said dan hall has said there is no more special editions being planed considered or getting commisioned. Once he has delivered menace he is done with the range and is moving on.

    • THE ERGON

      December 23rd, 2013 - 1:18pm

They could release’mission to the unknown with daleks masterplan if they ever get found as it ties neatly in with that.

  • Connor

    December 17th, 2013 - 9:35pm

Will there be special editions for older stories that got released like The Dalek invasion of Earth, Mind Robber, Ghost light and etc. I really would really like one more year of special editions for old relees because there hard to find in Australia nd they stop making copies!

    • gordon

      December 17th, 2013 - 9:57pm

nope. Dan hall said at a recent convention that Green death was the last special edition planned.

    • Connor

      December 17th, 2013 - 10:45pm

they also said Vengeance on Varos would be the last special edition in 2011 so maybe we will get special editions for one more year because of the very few DVDs released for 2014! all we know were getting are the Moonbase, Underwater Menace, Series 8 and Time of the Doctor! so im sure there going to release a few more special editions to fill up 2014.

    • gordon

      December 17th, 2013 - 10:48pm

No he didn’t say that. He said vengeance on varos would be the first in a line of singular special editions.

    • Connor

      December 17th, 2013 - 10:59pm

And if they find more missing episodes of Doctor Who then we wont be finished with the range as of yet. The lack of DVDs for 2014 is a bit pointless and they should (Even though they havent planed it) release the Crusade for DVD for 3 reasons:One its a great story and its one of the brilliant Historical storys of the 1st doctor. Two it will complete the secound season of the 1st doctor DVD releases and it looks better with more 1st doctor stories on the shelf to be honest and Three because animation is the 2nd best thing we get to the lost story

    • gordon

      December 17th, 2013 - 11:19pm

The range was originally going to end in 2013 but with delay with moonbase and the finding of web and mence ep 2 its been extended to 2014 but no way is it woryh extending the range for a whole year over 3 releases. It will be like web and enemy if more eps are found and Dan hall and pup ltd didn’t have any involvlment in those releases as they were entirely produced by Bbcww (thats why the cover is different and are extras free and web 3 won’t be getting animated).

    • gordon

      December 17th, 2013 - 11:25pm

Also sales of reign apparently wasn’t as high as expected so future animations beyond titles already agreed upon (10th planet ice warriors moonbase and menace were the titles already contractually agreed upon) were apparently scrapped. Also web is only missing 1 ep and thats not getting animated so I definitely cant see them animated crusade as that has 2

    • Lachie

      December 18th, 2013 - 8:20am

fellow Australian Classic Who Collector also i can understand how painful it is with running stock, ‘The Two Doctors’ is completely gone πŸ™ can’t be bought anywhere. Although i agree with Gordon on this one, there should be no need for further Special Editions if there’s no further way in which a release can be of better quality. I do however wish for ‘The Crusade’ to be animated and released as Connor says it is the last Season 2 Release. Either way hopeful for more Missing Episodes to be recovered

    • Connor

      December 18th, 2013 - 9:13am

I know how you feel Lachie πŸ™ i really want some of the stories that they dont make and i dont want to buy of ebay! I only buy from the ABC shop or JBHIFI. thats the only reason why i love special editions (and a few other reasons also). And i think there needs to be a Crusade release and i think they will do it anyway for the fans.

    • gordon

      December 18th, 2013 - 10:07am

Bbcww are a business and as a business its their job to make money so they won’t do it for the fans. Dan hall said at the recent radio skaro podcast that DVDs sales of the classic series are hemoraging and are dropping year on year and how the range will probably head to more iTunes and on demand. He also said that menace was in the embrionic stage (the wording suggests animation isn’t far along) with the amount of animation time required which suggests to me menace will be very unlikely completed until mid 2014 at earliest. Add on another 6 to 9 months for crusade we are looking at 2015 earliest for it and will have probably switched to iTunes and on demand services by then as its more profitable .

    • gordon

      December 18th, 2013 - 11:03pm

Pretty sure that tweet about a wheel in space commentary was false and fake.extras for for daemons was recorded April 2011 (look at Chris chapmans tweets at that time) not years in advance. Considering the restoration team Twitter posted in September about grading the last extras for the range (for underwater menace and moonbase) its looking obvious that there ain’t more se in the works. Also isn’t it better to wait and see what’s announced instead of anonomysly claiming things have been found without evidence.

  • drwho10

    December 17th, 2013 - 5:36pm

Why haven’t they done the covers like the enemy of the world and web of fear?

    • the war doctor

      December 17th, 2013 - 5:39pm

Because they were special because they were recently found ones but the moonbase is just like the tenth planet and is animated

    • gordon

      December 17th, 2013 - 5:42pm

It’s because web and enemy was not produced by pup ltd/dan hall/Bbcww and produced entirely by bbcww. That is also why there is no extras for enemy and no animated ep for web 3.

    • Drjakeyoung

      December 17th, 2013 - 5:45pm

Can we expect a special edition of those releases in a couple of years with full extras and animated ep 3?

    • Radburn

      December 17th, 2013 - 5:56pm

I wondered why Enemy had no Special Features & I’m also disappointed that Web is not being animated. As Drjakeyoung say’s above – We can only hope for a SE further down the line?

    • gordon

      December 17th, 2013 - 5:58pm

Very unlikely going by dan halls comments on a recent convention . He mentions dvd sales have been dropping year on year and its looking more likely they are taking the range more to more digital downloads and on demand services. With web and enemy being released on iTunes and web being available on virgin on demand before dvd its looking like they are heading that direction.

    • Son of Skaro

      December 17th, 2013 - 6:05pm

I’m pretty sure special editions are in the works, they may even appear by the end of 2014. It takes time to compile commentaries, interviews, documentaries, animations. Picture and sound mastering. I hope we get the crusade released also. πŸ˜€

    • gordon

      December 17th, 2013 - 7:26pm

There is no special editions in the works. Restoration team member and dan hall have both said theree isnt any more special editions in the work. Dan hall/pupltds (same company that produces the extras) last commisions were moonbase and underwater menace.

    • Anonymous

      December 17th, 2013 - 7:28pm

Yeah that restoration team member was same one who said they had found no more episodes when everyone knows they have

    • gordon

      December 17th, 2013 - 7:47pm

But Steve was contractually and legally bound to say they had no more eps even if they had. He has no such legality clause on future special editions.

    • Anonymous

      December 17th, 2013 - 8:24pm

How do you know that same as you don’. Know the web 3 is not there it’s obvious God I give up same as Ian and David you people have nor a clue what’s coming everyone said web was not back but hey it’s here and it’s the same with people who actually shot Phil down in 04/05 Ian had faith and how come only these two serials where found they bought whole of that season in one block apart from fury but that was sent and not aired at time.

    • gordon

      December 17th, 2013 - 8:31pm

Why on earth would Steve and both lie about no special editions in the works. It serves them no purpose to lie if they were working on future special editions why would they say they are not. Makes no sence considering they will be expecting fans to buy them.

    • gordon

      December 17th, 2013 - 8:35pm

As they are not willing to producer extras for stories that have recently been found and not had a dvd release yet I can’t see them commissioning extras for DVDs that was released about 10 years ago.

    • Anonymous

      December 17th, 2013 - 9:41pm

Because to do extras takes time uptown twelve months sometimes daemons was done years before plus some people involved May blab on Twitter like padbury did about doing a commentary for wheel now answer why would she do that

    • Some bloke

      December 18th, 2013 - 10:20am

She’s done a commentary for ‘Wheel’? Can we hope for it’s return?

the last one because there are no other episodes to release until anymore missing episodes are recovered. (so let’s hope it’s not the end) A Troughton quadrilogy to complete the collection.

Its true a lot of the historicals weren,t that popular according to viewing figures during the 1960s as you know. Its a wonder nobody considered the ‘pseudo’ historical even back then. I personally consider the crusade to be the best of its kind. Even if your a new fan, i believe eventually you,d seek out these stories, just out of curiousity alone.

“The Massacre” is a terrific story – one of my favourites in fact.

If you can get hold of a copy, the Target version expands on the TV version by quite a bit.

Haven,t read the target range in ages. Its true the massacre is a good story. I listen to the soundtrack every now and again. Peter purves’ favourite story as well.

Sales of reign just weren’t high enough. They were using that as a test to see how well animated historical stories do. Dvd sales of classic series in general are also dropping year on year. Also bythetime animated underwater menace is done (bear in mind moonbase is just finished last month) it will be well on to 2014 and that won’t be completed till 2015. Also worth pointing out every other story has something going for it. Reign was the lure of first ice warriors has ice warriors 10th planet

Underwater Menace won’t be completed till 2014/2015! :O Oh My God! So what will they do in the mean time. Will there be any re-releases or anything else?

    • gordon

      December 16th, 2013 - 2:47pm

It will be released next year but if they decide to animate crusade we wont see that till late 14/early15. That was what i was refering to in my comment.

      December 16th, 2013 - 5:17pm

It’s been fairly well announced that Underwater Menace will be out around April time in 2014. Unless we get lots more re-releases (or any future ‘found missing episodes’ then the dvd range will likely be few and far between from now on.

    • gordon

      December 16th, 2013 - 6:20pm

People are just assuming it is due about April time. Dan hall mentioned in the current radio skaro podcast (my source) that it would be released some point 2014. As he did not specificlt state when in 2014 It will be releasedI’d be suprised if its not been determined yet as its not yet ready. Moonbase has just been completed (the eps just cleared by the bbfc in the last couple of weeks) which suggests animation on meance will have just have began.

    • matparks08

      December 16th, 2013 - 8:00pm

I’m sure sometime around Sept/Oct I saw a picture of the dvd team signing off the Underwater Menace with a caption (signing off the last Dr Who dvd) before the Web of Fear/Enemy of the World appeared in October. I can’t imagine that two years after they were found that they’d only just be animating it.

    • hobbit dalek

      December 16th, 2013 - 8:33pm

is the web of fear getting animated or will get another release later on

    • gordon

      December 16th, 2013 - 10:27pm

The reason behind the wait for menace is because menace was at the back of a que as contracts had already been agreed upon for animated reign 10th planet and moonbse between dan hall and planet 55 studios. Moonbase and menace are the last pupltd/dan hall/Bbcww co produced releases and the tweet was for the extras/vam. Web won’t be animated as its not a dan hall/pupltd produced release. According to dwa we won’t be getting menace till after April http://doctorwhoarchive.com/2013/11/08/underwater-menace-dvd-not-to-be-released-until-after-april/

    • Johnny

      December 17th, 2013 - 9:21am

@ Gordon – So your comment that “UM” witll be released “…won’t be completed till 2015..” is an assumption on your part as Dan Hall said nothing in the posdcast – all he said was that it would be sometime in 2014.

    • gordon

      December 17th, 2013 - 1:42pm

I was referring to crusade not menace. My mistake

    • gordon

      December 17th, 2013 - 1:44pm

And that’s if and at the moment its a big if they decide to release crusade

    • WFK DVD Collector 13

      December 17th, 2013 - 3:58pm

So if the last Pup ltd releases of the range are The Underwater Menace and the Moonbase, and the reason that Web of Fear 3 isn’t getting animated is because of this, then is it possible to release a missing story like Power of the Daleks etc, by just using telesnaps? Surely reconstructing them this way is much cheaper then animation, and is possible?

    • gordon

      December 17th, 2013 - 4:21pm

Possibly but it all comes down to if Bbcww are willing to do so.

Go to Dr who recons there excellent.

As for web 3 why would they annimate something they already have. It just needs more work than the other 9.

    • gordon

Web 3 is missing. Rumours of its find is just that rumours.

      December 12th, 2013 - 10:55am

Whats with just the middle picture?.They did exactly the same for enemy of the world. There should be more moon and gravitron or did they think it would clutter the picture?.Hope there not doing the range again, with this new look. Hope its just for the remaining releases.

    • Some bloke

      December 12th, 2013 - 11:12am

Where would Lee have put the gravitron? And I think that the full cover design thing was just for enemy of the world and web of fear. Besides, they have reverse cover which matches the past releases. So there’s no need to worry about that

    • WFK DVD Collector 13

      December 13th, 2013 - 8:33am

I have to say that now we all know for sure that the new covers are reversable to blend in with the other releases, I’m starting to like these covers even more!

One thing that still gets me though is why that changed the covers with only about four more releases to go!

The Enemy of the World Out Now
      The Moonbase 20/01/14
      The Web of Fear 24/02/14
      The Underwater Menace TBC

    • gordon

      December 13th, 2013 - 9:46am

They haven’t changed the cover. This is how lee binding always shows the covers on his facebook page. The actual r2 cover will have the roundels. The web and enemy covers were a special case.

    • Some bloke

      December 13th, 2013 - 1:37pm

Yeah, Lee designs a full length and slightly wider image, and then they just cut it down to fit into the gap in the DVD cover

    • the ergon

      December 16th, 2013 - 12:30pm

They could have put the gravitron at the back of the picture and they cant do reversible for the moonbase as its only available as 2 parts onthe lost in time release.

  • JaffaCakes

    December 12th, 2013 - 8:19am

Wow that cover! I really think they’ve done miracles with the artwork for these last few stories that are coming out – does anyone know what else is coming afterwards (I heard about ‘The Underwater Menace’, is this really the end of the line?)?

    • the ergon

      December 12th, 2013 - 11:06am

The underwater menace, web of fear and possibly an animated ‘the crusade’ with any luck.

    • Johnny

      December 12th, 2013 - 3:07pm

It’s not been confirmed how or when The Underwater Menace will be released.

The last we have on Web of Fear is that it’ll be out on Monday 24th February.

There has also been no confirmation that The Crusade is getting annimated for a re-release.

    • JaffaCakes

      December 13th, 2013 - 8:30am

Hm – I have to say I don’t know much about the Crusade. First Doctor and Richard the Lionheart, right?

    • Some bloke

      December 13th, 2013 - 1:38pm

yeah, you’re right. It’s not all that bad to be honest.

Wouldnt get your hopes up on an animated crusade release.

    • gordon

Going by the comments by the restoration team. They pretty much have said after menace they are done for the moment with doctor who.

    • the ergon

      December 16th, 2013 - 12:25pm

I cant see why they wont animate it. They filled in with the reign of terror and it is only a four parter after all.

    • gordon

      December 16th, 2013 - 1:58pm

Sales of reign just weren’t high enough. They were using that as a test to see how well animated historical stories do. Dvd sales of classic series in general are also dropping year on year. • gordon

      December 16th, 2013 - 2:02pm

10th planet had cybermen and regeneration moonbase had cybermen and menace has an unreleased episode. Crusade has not got any major lures (scifi elements or classic monsters) which would give a boost in sales

    • gordon

      December 16th, 2013 - 2:50pm

Also web 3 isnt being animated so it certainly isnt a guarantee that crusade will be getting animated.
