B&M 2024 History of the Daleks Set #19

Character Options’ Christmas Doctor Who new offering for B & M stores unveiled

The new sets will make the perfect gifts for fans of the legendary Time Lord

Just in time for the big day and due to be at B & M Stores throughout the UK, Character Options is proud to reveal two new Doctor Who figure sets. Each comes in the ubiquitous celebration packaging designed with the fan collector in mind.

The first set is a trio of 5.5” (14cm) scale figures entitled: Friends & Foes of the Doctor.

This set comprises Professor River Song as seen in the 2010 episode The Pandorica Opens, the Cyberman with Heavy Weapons as seen in the 2011 episode A Good Man Goes to War, and the Gold Clockwork Droid from the 2006 episode The Girl in the Fireplace.

The River Song figure comes decorated in her black ‘stealth’ outfit briefly seen in the part where she is breaking into Liz 10’s secret archive to locate a Vincent Van Gogh painting. She sports a revised head sculpt with ponytail which appeared in that scene, and completing the outfit is her utility belt and holster with detachable blaster accessory.

The Cyberman is presented in the standard livery of a silvered armour over darker silver joints and come with the somewhat incongruous ‘Reaper’ heavy blaster weapon seen in this episode while the ‘Gold’ Clockwork Droid is a variant never released before but has as usual the removable mask with hair, arm mounted utility weapon, and the internal clockwork parts as seen inside the transparent clear head.

The next new set is the 19th in the history of the eminently popular History of the Daleks series.

This new chapter for the series is a celebration of black and bronze and features Daleks from the 2005 episode featuring the Ninth Doctor called Parting of the Ways.

In the episode, Rose Tyler has been captured by the Daleks and the Doctor must do some fancy flying to find her. Emerging from the TARDIS, he taunts the Daleks to find out information and is staggered to find them worshipful of something or someone. The source of this enthral is revealed to be the self-proclaimed ‘Emperor of the Daleks’, a survivor of the Time War. This set includes a black and bronze Imperial Guard Dalek and a fully bronze Dalek – all part of the massive Dalek army that has been created by the Emperor over the centuries.

The two new Doctor Who sets will be available from B & M Stores from early December.

They are due in stores the week of 16th December according to the Facebook B&M group.

But will probably depend on if there is any empty shelf space to put them out per store.

Where are people seeing pictures of the assault variant on the brinze Dalek no matter how hard I try I just can’t seem to find an image of it in box or out of box as it is the only real variant I am interested in buying as I already have 3 of the bronze crucible daleks form the stolen earth set which have a very similar shade of bronze to the new drone and I don’t really want another bronze Dalek with a plunger.

Is it a reuse of the original sculpt or a new more accurate one?

    • Ben

From what I could tell it’s a new more accurate one, although as Jamie said they weren’t great quality

    • Dalek fred

      November 26th, 2024 - 7:56am

I looked at batmanmarches review where he has both varients but sadly it looks to be a re use of the old sculpt.

    • HS

      November 27th, 2024 - 3:58pm

Why would they use the old incorrect sculpt lol

Of course it’s with the new Dalek sculpt.

    • Dalek fred

      November 27th, 2024 - 4:12pm

I ment for the assault claw cutting tool thing (would be awesome to see that Dalek return and actually use it as a claw by the way) I am pretty sure that it is just a re use of the claw with different paint apps

    • Walter Hardback

      November 27th, 2024 - 5:07pm

I think they’re asking if the claw is more accurate. And it sounds like it ain’t.

    • Ben

      November 28th, 2024 - 7:51am

Having now also seen the video review by Batmanmarch I’d agree with Dalek Fred and say that the claw attachment is a reuse, it certainly looks chunkier than the regular plunger, but without seeing it in hand it’s still hard to fully gauge. The Dalek itself it 100% the new sculpt though.

This Black Dalek in The Parting Of The Ways, I’ve just watched that episode again this morning, unless it’s in the background somewhere I just can not spot the Black with Gold Spheres Dalek. But it look great in this New Set that’s coming. Can someone tell me if you have spotted this Dalek in the episode because all I can see is just the Bronze Daleks even in the background. or was it not used or cut from the screen.

I think they are seen on the Dalek ship in the background, and maybe around the emperor in the shadows, though those may be a different variant. It could also be based on concept art that was not included in the episode.

You know what? While the bronze Daleks have dominated New Who, I still feel as though there are enough variants to make sets representing every modern Dalek story without getting too repetitive. Most of these already exist, my only worries would be Rusty and the Defense Drone.

Remembrance of the Daleks Part 2
Imperial Dalek and Special Weapons Dalek

Daleks in Manhattan/Evolution of the Daleks
    Hybrid Sec and Damaged Thay

    The Stolen Earth/Journey’s End
    Supreme Dalek and Crucible Dalek

Victory of the Daleks Part 1
    Ironside and White Supreme Dalek

Victory of the Daleks Part 2
Blue Strategist Dalek and Orange Scientist Dalek

    The Pandorica Opens/The Big Bang
Yellow Eternal Dalek and Stone Dalek

    Asylum of the Daleks
Red Drone Dalek and Dusty Bronze Dalek

    Into the Dalek/The Witch’s Familiar
Rusty and Blue Neck 60’s Dalek

    Resolution/Eve of the Daleks
    Recon Scout and Executioner Dalek

    Revolution of the Daleks
Defense Drone and Death Squad Dalek

Well here we go again let the search begin, yeah I don’t see the point with the bronze Daleks, they have never changed much since it came back, I can’t remember the black and bronze Dalek in The Parting Of The Ways but still a nice lovely design. Maybe they could have maybe done just that with a Ninth Doctor or Rose figures instead of the Bronze Dalek. I think if they do carry on with the Series that is what were gonna get is a bronze Dalek in each future set. Apart from the bulky coloured Daleks from the Victory Of The Daleks and also the ironside Daleks..But than we have the odd classic Daleks appeared in odd episodes. So they might mix them up with the classics. And then is the worst design of them all in my opinion from Jodie Whittaker’s Revolution, which is probably why they went back to the bronze Daleks. So that said these sets are just gonna go on and on for at least another 20 or so sets. I think am gonna need to get a bigger cabinet soon.

Lol, I was reading all your comment and near the End I could have sworn you were going to say they’ll go on and on for another “20 Years” LOL again. (I was thinking the same).

    • Andy Dodds

      November 23rd, 2024 - 2:20pm

Well Snoman, that might just be true 20 yrs lol, 20 or so sets 2 sets a year about 10 years before we start seeing some of the recent Dalek Sets, than the Series is still on going. So yeah maybe 10 – 20 Years quite a possibility. But I think people might get sick if they were to just go on and on. For me the Classic Daleks are still the best sets from the range. But from here on in we are gonna see a lot of the bronze Daleks In the future sets probably with a slight difference like the damaged Dalek from Series 3 were we had Dalek Sec, Dalek Con, Dalek Thay, and correct me if am wrong I think is it Dalek Jus or Just I can never remember the fourth ones name. So there is at least 2 or 3 sets from that Series, than you have maybe 2 or 3 more for Series 4, Davros, Supreme Red Dalek, and again probably mixed with bronze Daleks. Than we have Series 5, were they are 7 Different Daleks, Bronze yet again, Ironside Army Style Daleks, and the of course those bulky coloured Daleks, White, Blue, Red, Orange, and Yellow, and the Stone age Dalek from the end of Series 5. That would probably be at least 4 – 6 sets. So that would probably take at least another few years before we start seeing any of these. Unless they start speeding up so just maybe which would be silly 20 or more of these Dalek Sets, 20 years lol, mmm yeah maybe, I would probably be well in to my 60s by than with my walking stick lol.

It was literally years later when I realised the Emperor’s guards had a probe instead of a sucker arm. They are so small on the screen. Probably be cheaper to pick one up 3D-printed and stick it on a standard bronze…though then I’d have to paint the dome. Hmmm…

This was the set I was most excited for, but this is a pass from me. I get these are budget sets, but they’ve been significantly reduced since last year, least they could do is give the Guard Dalek the one thing it needs to be accurate (and interesting), a saw arm. SO MUCH potential with this story and they really wasted it tbh. Why a standard bronze Dalek? There’s PLENTY of stories where they HAVE to do that later down the line due to lack of options. Instead they waste it on one of the few Dalek stories where they have an abundance of choices???? I’m reading now that it’s a chase variant swapping with an Assault Dalek, but why include the standard drone at all!? Bizarre.

I know I’m being harsh but they’re going to have a lot of trouble doing future sets in this series if they have to include a bronze drone Dalek in THIS set lmao.

    • THE CAPTAIN

      November 21st, 2024 - 11:23pm

You don’t sound harsh at all and I totally agree with you they’ve done a bronze Dalek not so long ago and they can easily be brought on Ebay for God knows cheap prices they should’ve done different arm varieties or even done a mutant reveal!!

    • The Outcast

      November 22nd, 2024 - 4:52am

Actually, the black “Emperor Guard” Dalek in this set only had the regular plunger onscreen. The buzzsaw was an unused CGI model made for the episode, but which never made it in.

As for the choices, it seems pretty clear that the reason we’ve got a standard Dalek here at all is entirely due to CO having no budget to work with anymore, unlike the B&M packs of previous years.

    • pb

      November 24th, 2024 - 6:47pm

Exactly Outcast, it is obvious which is why I was saying it doesn’t bode well for the future of this series.. standard bronze Daleks are seemingly going to be included in every set from now on until Victory.

Yes, HOTD 16 had the gold band around it’s midsection (only seen on a bronze dalek in the episode Dalek) and had oil streaks down it’s side.
The new ones are clean and the revised design without the gold band seen here on the guard.
