Character Options is pleased to announce the next wave of Doctor Who figures for summer 2022, scheduled to land in B&M stores in September (but down to B&M when they put them out).

Each new addition to this line forms part of the 5.5” figure range and features new decoration as well as multiple points of articulation. The new sets come packaged in the familiar ‘heritage’ style Doctor Who collector packs; though, this time, there are a few changes that eagle-eyed fans might notice.

Fans first encountered the Eighth Doctor back in 1989 after a failed mission to transport the remains of the Master back to Gallifrey. In this three-figure set, he is depicted in all his screen seen outfits from his adventures but with updated decoration.

The first figure is inspired by Doctor Who: The Television Movie, with the Eighth Doctor, in an updated version of the costume worn after he regenerated. The second figure depicts the Doctor in his dark blue leather pea coat and jeans from his audio adventures. The decoration has been revised and, for the first time, this figure also has the brown satchel. The final figure in this set is taken from The Night of the Doctor, minisode where he sported a worn green overcoat, ruffled tie, bronze waistcoat, and US Army Cavalry boots. This outfit corresponds with his overall weary appearance, during the Time War.

Al Dewar Creative Director commented “I think and hope the fans and collectors will really like these new sets. We have really spent time updating the look of the figures to make them different. The Eighth Doctor set, especially the TV movie and NOTD figures are a real delight and have a much more sophisticated look, befitting a modern action figure. I think they are the best yet. The Tenth Doctor sets have a very different and fresh feel and come with two never released variants. The Dalek sets not only feature new packaging, but we have finally brought to the fans the Dalek Supreme and a fully transparent Dalek from Planet of the Daleks! And The Death to the Daleks set is also very close to my heart!”

If anyone had seen them, you wouldn’t need to ask. Everyone would be talking about it.

I was in my local store yesterday and it was just both versions of the Dalek bobble head packs and the single larger versions.

I’m still dreaming of a full on 1.6 Scale Big Chief version of McGann in his NOTD gear.

If anyone who makes decisions on what gets released, from B and M or character is looking over these pages, if you continue down the 3 doctor/companion in changing costumes route, i would like to make a plea for rereleases of peri and leela. And please can we get Adric, Nyssa, Tegan, Turlough and Mel and even more of the 60s companions. For the 60th anniversary we would like the full original TARDIS crew if if its not too much to ask.

Oh Bessie, we can but dream mike. That would be some acharacter exclusive.

Actually Mike talking of Bessie, if you are interested, in a 3D print version, i recently put it to a guy who makes these,on a closed pagebook group with regards to doing a Bessie and he seemed more than enthusiastic when i put the request to him. If it happens ill let people know from my collections page if permitted. Id say a capitol guard is a possibility without full retooling..That a fourth doctor in gallifreyan robes and a decomposing master rerelease. Voila! The Deadly assassin set.

CO have already said that their is no chance of new sculpts or play sets, expect maybe 1 a year now.

There is no way we’d get several in one year.

The glory days are over I’m afraid.

It’s probably going to get worse not better each year as they run out of characters they can make from existing parts. B & M are only interested in making quick money so won’t splash out on all new sculpts.

The scalpers always do that. I always hope they don’t manage to get any, and get a load of negs in their feedback.

Unpopular opinion but this one originally disappointed me more than the 10th set, because at least that one had 1 new figure, and I already have all 3 of these, 2 of the rarest one actually. So this didn’t appeal to me either, as it’d only be for the sash, but I’m moderately tempted for the better paint jobs…

I would have loved a “shirt sleeves” no coat Eighth Doctor that reflected some of the promotional photos McGann took for the TV Movie. A reworking of the Yana/Regenerated Master sculpt could have made it work.

    August 14th, 2022 - 3:24pm

Wouldn’t be an 8th Doctor figure without coat colour controversy.

  • Jamie D

    August 11th, 2022 - 10:02pm

I have all these figures so its not that exciting for me but unlike the 10th Dr set they do make sense to rerelease. These are all sought after figures. Its nice to have the bag this time and the new paint job makes the TVM 8th look better than ever. I may still get this set just for that reason.

Character will have to put out a bonus pack of sundry items to fit into the moulded character hands, especially the Dr’s Sonic screwdrivers, 8th Dr Chalice, 1st Doctor cane, 2nd Dr Recorder…etc!

I’d assumed the Night of the Doctor figure was new but seeing people’s comments I’ve realised it’s not. When was that version released previously?

      August 11th, 2022 - 9:23am

2016, in the days of Underground toys and Toys r us, became quite rare hence people asking for a re-release,

      https://merchandise.thedoctorwhosite.co.uk/8th-doctor-night-of-the-doctor/

an “injured” version was also in the 13 Doctors set, Toys r us Exclusive in the UK

      August 11th, 2022 - 9:28am

It was on its own and in the 13 (?) Doctors set

    • booboo

      August 11th, 2022 - 9:39am

The 13 doctors was a variant covered in cuts.

This B&M new version doesn’t come with sash and challis either like the original.

      August 11th, 2022 - 12:14pm

And the new one is a blue coat

    • booboo

      August 11th, 2022 - 12:53pm

Its green but darker and more weathered, The Blue is another Big Finish Dark Eyes figure.

The final figure in this set is taken from The Night of the Doctor, minisode where he sported a worn green overcoat, ruffled tie, bronze waistcoat, and US Army Cavalry boots. This outfit corresponds with his overall weary appearance, during the Time War.

Thank you for clarification! I’d drifted a bit from Who and collecting Who stuff around that point so makes sense I’d miss such a limited release. I’m a big 8th Doctor fan so I’m really pleased to be able to add this one to my collection.

Really pleased to see the Night of the Doctor figure getting a re-release. I missed out on a fairly cheap one on Ebay a few months ago (the seller put a low buy-it-now price but it had gone by the time I got the search alert) and it goes for very silly money even when loose – much more than the price of this set of three. I’ll forgive it the lack of chalice and sash just to get another McGann figure. 🙂
