Stocks have now arrived. Comments on this item be now be left in the Stocks Arrived Post.

Character Options is pleased to announce the next wave of Doctor Who figures for summer 2022, scheduled to land in B&M stores in September (but down to B&M when they put them out).

Each new addition to this line forms part of the 5.5” figure range and features new decoration as well as multiple points of articulation. The new sets come packaged in the familiar ‘heritage’ style Doctor Who collector packs; though, this time, there are a few changes that eagle-eyed fans might notice.

Fans first encountered the Eighth Doctor back in 1989 after a failed mission to transport the remains of the Master back to Gallifrey. In this three-figure set, he is depicted in all his screen seen outfits from his adventures but with updated decoration.

The first figure is inspired by Doctor Who: The Television Movie, with the Eighth Doctor, in an updated version of the costume worn after he regenerated. The second figure depicts the Doctor in his dark blue leather pea coat and jeans from his audio adventures. The decoration has been revised and, for the first time, this figure also has the brown satchel. The final figure in this set is taken from The Night of the Doctor, minisode where he sported a worn green overcoat, ruffled tie, bronze waistcoat, and US Army Cavalry boots. This outfit corresponds with his overall weary appearance, during the Time War.

Al Dewar Creative Director commented “I think and hope the fans and collectors will really like these new sets. We have really spent time updating the look of the figures to make them different. The Eighth Doctor set, especially the TV movie and NOTD figures are a real delight and have a much more sophisticated look, befitting a modern action figure. I think they are the best yet. The Tenth Doctor sets have a very different and fresh feel and come with two never released variants. The Dalek sets not only feature new packaging, but we have finally brought to the fans the Dalek Supreme and a fully transparent Dalek from Planet of the Daleks! And The Death to the Daleks set is also very close to my heart!”

Shame they can never release a Sixth Doctor set, due to issues with the paint app mentioned a few times. I’d love a Frobisher Penguin figure.

After i’ve had a day to look over this, i guess it’ a good move to include that bag, because now we’re all going to be buying it again for one accessory 🙂

Well I’ve lost my “O.G.” 11 Doctors set 8, so ironically I might be getting it for that. I’m happy for folks who’ve previously struggled to get hold of the NOTD figure. I had a hard time getting hold of the Dark Eyes figure, and I personally prefer the first release with the gold buttons.

Regarding the bag, I’ve been using the Marvel Legends “satchel” accessory, specifically the one from the Luke Cage/Claire Temple 2 – pack. It scales well (sits nicely on the hip when looped over the opposite shoulder), it’s got silver detailing on the buckle and catches, and it’s currently on Amazon for £31.99.

I don’t know how much these forthcoming packs are retailing for (still £19.99?), but if you’re going to incur postage or petrol costs JUST to get the bag, you might want to consider this set as an alternative. And you get two action figures you might not already have – including a little plastic Rosario Dawson, which is a big plus in my book.

I have all the CO ‘Primeval’ figures. The bag is the one included with Connor Temple. I just used that with my 8th Doctor.

Yep, and when the Dark Eyes Doctor was originally released in 2019/2020 there was a massive rush to find that figure, or at least the satchel, on eBay. Cue certain eBay sellers flogging the satchel alone for more than the current RRP for the multi – figure packs. It’s still quite hard to find that accessory for a reasonable price.

I’d imagine it’s the most sought after a figure in the Primeval range, mostly for that accessory.

Not exactly mind blowing, but worth it for the Night of the Doctor 8th Doctor figure alone for anyone who didn’t manage to pick it up. I only have the 13 Doctors pack one so it’ll be nice to finally get a clean version. I don’t see the need to release the Dark Eyes figure in a B&M pack again though.

Does anyone know around when these will actually be stocked in stores?

I hope Character will eventually re-release the TV Movie Eighth Doctor figure in a Doctor/TARDIS set, I think the TARDIS toy would look great in that really dark, glossy blue that it was in the Movie. But I intend on getting this set regardless, SO GLAD to finally see a re-release of the rare TV Movie variant.

I almost bought a loose Eighth Doctor figure from the Eleven Doctors Set on eBay several times, but I could never find one that didn’t have ”crazy eyes”, the paint apps on the face look much better on this re-release.

    August 9th, 2022 - 10:33pm

Ahh, now this is the set I’m after as I don’t have two of these figures.

  • Kal1221

    August 9th, 2022 - 10:25pm

This is quite a lovely set! Yes, we have seen these all before, but they are the most screen accurate offerings in terms of paint. The faces also look wonderful.

  • Liam

    August 9th, 2022 - 8:56pm

How much are they now? With the price increase? They both say £55 on eBay when you search. Surely they haven’t increased it that much in a time where cost of living is at a high.

    • booboo

      August 9th, 2022 - 9:09pm

      £21.99

People buy at full retail to sell on ebay at a profit,

Given the cost of living you mention you might see more of this with people trying to top up their income

    August 9th, 2022 - 8:07pm

Oh! Like others a bit disappointed by these will prob only get 10th Dr set if in sale as have couple of them also have all the 8th Dr figures so don’t really want to purchase again for the sake of a bag pleased for mothers who don’t have them as great opportunity to get them hopefully other sets later in year might contain a new companion on plus side no mad rushing around for me yet!

  • Judooning

    August 9th, 2022 - 7:33pm

Is the bag a new sculpt or was it released in another range of figures like Primevil?

  • Ian

    August 9th, 2022 - 6:17pm

Lazy releases. Repaint coat on 8 and on other give him a bag. I’ll wait till the sale.

  • Nicholas

    August 9th, 2022 - 5:04pm

A little disappointing after all the promising companion figures of the few years. A Lucie (new head, primeval body) or a Charley would have been amazing. Re-release a Doctor by all means, but I think they need re-painted Daleks or a companion alongside to sell

  • Alan Silvester

    August 9th, 2022 - 4:06pm

Lazy, lazy, lazy. So many companions that could have been included, but they’ve opted for the lazy “three of the same doctor” in a box. And a box that has no background card but does come with a price increase. Very disappointed – CO really need to re-think their sales strategy, because you can only take the proverbial for so long.

    • Kenny

      August 9th, 2022 - 7:07pm

Ridiculous. Do you know the costs involved for creating new sculpts for companions? Budgets are tight this year.

    • Alan Silvester

      August 9th, 2022 - 7:46pm

Everyone’s budgets are tight, which is why these needed to be a bit special to encourage people to part with their money. Without background cards these will look very bland on the shelves and this, coupled with lazy remoulds/repaints (all the 8th Doctor figures have been released before), I fear will impact sales and jeopardise the range. Perhaps they should have skipped this year and pooled the budgets for 2022/2023 together so they can produce some brilliant figures for the 60th anniversary.

    • booboo

      August 9th, 2022 - 7:57pm

If B&M want to buy CO will produce, its business, its what they do.

  • Whovian

    August 9th, 2022 - 3:51pm

I’m not angry, I’m just disappointed

The only figure from this set that is of any interest to me, is The Night of the Doctor figure

    • Mr penguin

      August 9th, 2022 - 6:05pm

      Same

  • pupbenny

    August 9th, 2022 - 3:26pm

If they’d made the coat more distinctly green, my thoughts on this set would be far more positive, cause that’s a really hard variant to get.

But this one just feels like they’re claiming it’s from one thing (TNOTD) while it feels like it’s a variant from another (TLV).

  • Robert W

    August 9th, 2022 - 3:24pm

The Daleks are fine, the McGann set will sell as the middle “Night of the Doctor” figure is so hard for fans to come by, but I’m really confused why the sets have multiple Doctors. It’s a bit disappointing really

  • Col

    August 9th, 2022 - 3:15pm

Aww so excited for these I don’t have an 8 even those he’s my second fave doctor can’t wait to nab this

  • Dalekz

    August 9th, 2022 - 2:46pm

I have the original 8th Doctor movie figure, the Night of the Doctor figure I don’t have but the one from the audios is the one I will be less intrested in

  • Drwhofan12

    August 9th, 2022 - 2:34pm

It really is a 8th dr set

  • pupbenny

    August 9th, 2022 - 2:12pm

Hmmmm, I’m not sure what to make of this one. Can’t tell if I like it or think it’s rubbish.

Surprised they’re calling the middle one the ‘Night of the Doctor’ one, instead of justifying the different paint job by saying it’s ‘The Timelord Victorious’ variant. Maybe it’s just the lgihting but the coat definitely looks more blue than green to me.

The TV Movie one is kind of interesting. Nice to have a different variant of that outfit, but also one that, colour-wise, might actually be more accurate to the film, maybe? I’m not sure, looking at pictures and it might be. Only downside I can tell is loss of detail in the waistcoat, as might be expected with B&M, which is unfortunate.
The Dark Eyes one is meh to me, already released that variant so much.

  • Doctor Stu

    August 9th, 2022 - 2:12pm

Remember when people were saying they think we might get Dan or the master in the 13 set? You may as well lower every expectation down to about minus 17

    • Anonymous

      August 9th, 2022 - 9:00pm

I don’t think the 13th doctor set could have 3 doctors. I mean what would they do? One Navy, one pink and one blue?

    • Gareth Pugh

      August 9th, 2022 - 10:40pm

I think the 13th set could comprise of – for example – a reissue of the mid-blue jumper / standard pale blue coat version (which I think was import-only in the UK?), ‘Time’ (the character) from the Flux – which is basically the standard 13 figure with the coat paint scheme reversed to be navy blue with pale blue detailing – and then either a coatless white shirtsleeves version which we’ve seen sometimes (particularly in some Tardis scenes) – or – if they have any budget for a bit of new tooling / kit-bashing, they could maybe fashion a new soft-vinyl chest piece with white shirt and bow tie, paint the standard culottes and coat black, and you’d have a passable Spyfall 13. (not perfect – the Spyfall coat is I think a bit shorter and a bit more tailored like an elongated tux. But in line with some of the other trade-offs like the Talons 4 being an adaptation of bits of a 3rd Doctor base, it would work).

When it was first announced I’d hoped this set might have brought us Dan, but after todays announcement I get the feeling three variants of 13 IS indeed what we’ll get.

  • Callum Eales

    August 9th, 2022 - 1:58pm

All been released before also a 3 pack of the same doctor really. Was hoping maybe a lucie or graice.

    • Alan Silvester

      August 9th, 2022 - 4:20pm

Absolutely, Callum. All these 8th Doctor figures have been released before. Very lazy set of 3 of the same Doctor, no background card, no companions – but a price increase. Feels like we’re being taken for mugs everywhere, and CO have joined in now!

    • booboo

      August 9th, 2022 - 4:30pm

It is B&M that commission these, set the budgets, set the selling price and ultimately say whats in them.

There is a lot of disappointment around, perhaps understandably, but i think its being directed at the wrong people.

    • Callum Eales

      August 9th, 2022 - 9:55pm

@booboo do we have any info on any more tardis releases

    • booboo

      August 9th, 2022 - 10:24pm

only a 1st Doctor Electronic later in the year, no new info

  • Anonymous

    August 9th, 2022 - 1:53pm

Was really hoping they’d do a Charley or a Lucie, not just three 8th Doctors. Incredibly disappointing

  • Lewis frisby

    August 9th, 2022 - 1:44pm

You have made a mistake in the description you put 1989 instead of 1999

    • Mrs Croot

      August 9th, 2022 - 1:51pm

1996 could also work, whether it’s a story perspective (set in 1999) or tv perspective (1996)

    • Luke

      August 9th, 2022 - 1:55pm

I’d say 1996 as it says from a fans perspective. But it’s from the press release, so could be the same on the packaging.

  • Fitz

    August 9th, 2022 - 1:42pm

Disappointing. They might at least have used the Dark Eyes head from the War Doctor set, which is far and away the best of the McGann sculpts.

  • Anonymous

    August 9th, 2022 - 1:38pm

I like the Bag Accessory, but won’t buy this just for an accessory. I’ve marked both the 10th./8th. Sets off my list. Both Dalek Sets will be an immediate ebay purchase though!

    • Rex Farrel

      August 9th, 2022 - 1:46pm

I think this set will be popular with those who split them up for ebay, so you’ll be able to get the bag no problem – even with the figure it’s not going to be the priciest thing from the set (I’m predicting £30 Night figures, and people will buy them despite the rest of us crying, “please don’t encourage the scalpers”).

  • Mrs Croot

    August 9th, 2022 - 1:31pm

It might just be lighting but isn’t that more of a TLV 8th doctor? At least the daleks sets are good.

  • Anonymous

    August 9th, 2022 - 1:06pm

They could have done so much more! Waited all this time for these, I will pick them up but disappointed ☹️

  • Alex Oswin

    August 9th, 2022 - 12:55pm

I was hoping for some Big Finish companions but very happy with this set.

    • AlexOswin

      August 9th, 2022 - 2:26pm

This one is good if you missed out on any of these variants previously and don’t want to pay scalper prices. They are all rarer figures.

    August 9th, 2022 - 12:54pm

    I thought this was a joke…

I really didn’t think they would ACTUALLY do this…
