Big Finish The Third Doctor Adventures The Quintessence
A Cyber threat for the Third Doctor and Jo
Tim Treloar and Katy Manning battle an old enemy in The Third Doctor Adventures: The Quintessence, a thrilling new audio adventure due for release in October 2024.
The Third Doctor (Tim Treloar) is travelling once again with Jo Jones (Katy Manning) – previously known as Jo Grant – after they were reunited in last year’s box set The Return of Jo Jones. In their next story, The Quintessence, the pair will face one of the Doctor’s oldest enemies – the Mondasian Cybermen.
From the writing team of Stewart Pringle and Lauren Mooney, The Third Doctor Adventures: The Quintessence is an epic six-part audio drama told across one box set, in keeping with the format of the classic Doctor Who TV stories starring Jon Pertwee as the Third Doctor.
What begins as a gothic mystery tale, with a bizarre Victorian manor populated by an unusual family, soon turns into a showdown between the dapper Doctor and the devious cyborgs from Earth’s twin planet Mondas.
Doctor Who – The Third Doctor Adventures: The Quintessence is now available to pre-order as a collector’s edition CD box set (+ download for just £22.99) or a digital download only (for just £18.99), exclusively from www.bigfinish.com. Please note: the collector’s edition CD box set is strictly limited to 1,500 copies and will not be repressed.
The Doctor and Jo Jones arrive at ‘Always’, a Victorian manor house perched impossibly on the distant storm-world of Nethara Reach.
Greeted by the peculiar Pepperdines, a couple frantic with worry about their ailing daughter, they discover terrible secrets hiding within the panelled walls and gruesome oil paintings.
Secrets that will bring the Doctor face to face with one of his most ancient and implacable enemies, and put his relationship with Jo to the ultimate test.
The Quintessence also stars Chris Larkin (Outlander) as Arthur Pepperdine, Emily Joyce (My Hero) as Lucy Pepperdine, Felicity Cant as Emmeline Pepperdine, Gary Turner (Emmerdale) as Drexel, and Big Finish executive producer Nicholas Briggs as the Cybermen.
Producer Heather Challands said: “This production has me very excited. Not only do we have the return of Katy Manning as the amazing Jo Jones alongside Tim as the Doctor, but we also have the Mondasian Cybermen.
“Stewart and Lauren have written a terrifying, gothic script that goes from a Victorian House on an alien wasteland to the depths of Mondas. The Doctor and Jo come across the Pepperdine family, who are hiding quite a few secrets, but even they don’t know the true extent of the danger they are in.”
Big Finish listeners can save money by purchasing this box set and The Third Doctor Adventures: Revolution in Space, which was released in February, together in a bundle for just £44 (collector’s edition CD box set + download) or £36 (download only).
Alternatively, listeners can buy this series as part of a bundle of all 15 Classic Doctor Who box sets released in 2024 for £318 (collector’s edition CD box set + download) or £264 (download only). Similarly, a bundle containing 12 Classic Doctor Who 2024 box sets is available from £216.
All the above prices include the special pre-order discount and are subject to change after general release.

October 1st, 2024 - 3:08pmI intend to buy this cd of the 3rd Doctor versus the dreaded Cybermen, it will make up for the missed chances of the 3rd Doctor not meeting the Cybermen on screen when he was the Doctor onscreen for 5 years.

June 20th, 2024 - 5:36pmGiven that cover, I was expecting a Dalek story (I thought that circle was possibly a Dalek eye stalk lens.) until I expanded the image and saw the hand. Plus, the solicitation pleasantly surprised me with the Tenth Planet Cybermen.
I’ll be getting this one.
