Big Finish The Fourth Doctor Storm of The Sea Devils

The Sea Devil’s in the detail for Tom Baker

Tom Baker returns as the Fourth Doctor in March 2024, and is set to face an underwater menace and more in two new full-cast audio dramas from Big Finish Productions. The Storm of the Sea Devils box set features the return of the Doctor’s nautical nemeses, who first encountered him onscreen during his third incarnation in 1972. They appear in the four- part titular story of this set, alongside the two-part Worlds Beyond.

Tom Baker said: “It’s a terribly good story. I absolutely enjoyed this one – we all laughed a lot. The actors were very bravely playing Sea Devils, finding their voices, and whispering and shouting. It’s been wonderful fun.” Plus, there are some familiar friendly faces joining the Doctor, too – his old companion, Surgeon Lieutenant Harry Sullivan (Christopher Naylor) and UNIT secretary Naomi Cross (Eleanor Crooks). Except… this is the first time they’ve all met!

Regular Big Finish listeners will know that Harry and Naomi have experienced a timey-wimey story arc through a number of previous audio ranges, including with Kate Stewart and her UNIT team, and travels with the Seventh Doctor. Now the pieces of the jigsaw finally fit together and the beginning of their adventure is revealed.

Doctor Who — The Fourth Doctor Adventures: Storm of the Sea Devils is now available to pre- order as a collector’s edition 3-disc CD box set (+ download for just £19.99) or a digital download (for just £16.99), exclusively from www.bigfinish.com.

The two stories for the fantastic Fourth Doctor are:

The Storm of the Sea Devils by David K Barnes
Surgeon Lieutenant Harry Sullivan is supposed to be on holiday. But his arrival in Calcutta is intercepted by someone from the local branch of UNIT – a staff member called Naomi Cross. A businessman in the area has mysteriously cancelled the opening of his new hotel… and local villagers have reported sightings of ‘devils’ in the swamps. Devils that look very familiar from the UNIT files… The businessman requires medical aid so UNIT have decided to send him a doctor. Unfortunately, when Harry and Naomi arrive on site they find a different Doctor has got there ahead of them… And that’s just the start of their troubles.

Worlds Beyond by Robert Khan and Tom Salinsky
The Doctor, Harry and Naomi have arrived on a luxury resort world where custom made holidays are provided for every visitor. Their minds are scanned and their ideal getaway is planned.
Naomi gets an activity break by the sea, Harry explores a crumbling ruin and the Doctor ends up playing chess with Alan Turing. All seems idyllic… but every paradise must have a snake… mustn’t it?

Guest stars in this box set include Silas Carson (Star Wars: The Phantom Menace, Doctor Who: The Impossible Planet), Amina Zia (Porridge) and Raj Ghatak (Dead Set, Christopher Robin), with Nicholas Briggs (Doctor Who’s voice of the Daleks and Cybermen). Anthony Howell (Foyle’s War), Big Finish’s Dr David Keel from The Avengers: The Lost Episodes, plays Alan Turing in Worlds Beyond, alongside Amaka Okafor (currently starring in Netflix’s Bodies) as Naomi’s new friend, Abby.

All three of 2024’s Fourth Doctor Adventures box sets (due for release in March, June and September) can be pre-ordered together in a bundle for just £54 (collector’s edition CD + download) or £48 (digital download only). A 15-release bundle (including all the Classic Doctor adventures) is also available to purchase for just £294 (collector’s edition CD + download) or £252 (download only). All the above prices include the special pre-order discount and are subject to change after general release.

Kind of puts me off buying any audios when most of the monsters are played by nicholas briggs. Always sounds like him on a modulator.
