Big Finish – Return of the Sontarans

Return of the Sontarans

From www.bigfinish.com

The Sontarans are to make their debut in a Big Finish Doctor Who audio production in 2011. Executive producer Nicholas Briggs has revealed that the squat clone soldiers, which first appeared in the 1974 TV story The Time Warrior, will do battle with the Fifth Doctor next April.

“It’s strange to think that, in over 140 monthly Doctor Who plays, we’ve never featured the Sontarans,” Briggs told DWM. “However, Alan Barnes has written a storming story for them, and Steven Moffat was kind enough to give his blessing for us to use them.

“These are definitely the Sontarans of old, dressed in their black armour, and from the same brood hatching as Commander Linx. Of course, casting the Sontarans is going to be an interesting challenge – they’re a monster with a very specific voice quality, and I’m very keen we get actors who can capture the stark military mindset.”

The Sontarans featured in four stories during the classic TV series: the aforementioned The Time Warrior, The Sontaran Experiment, The Invasion of Time and The Two Doctors. This as-yet-untitled adventure will be the first time that the Fifth Doctor has confronted them – although his companion Tegan met them alongside the Sixth Doctor and young Gareth Jenkins in the Jim’ll Fix It skit A Fix With Sontarans. “Yes, it’s unlikely that we’ll go there,” laughs Briggs

-My favourite is the sour-juicy apple flavoured one. Oh soory! Thought you were reffering to sweets or lollipops or sumthang there, I see you are infact debating about those brightly coloured Chunk-Bots of painted pots designed by Mark gatiss and distributed by the Beeb to make little children be fixated and spend truckloads of cash on them.
Fixated by them are you? Shame on you. An orange Dalek? Howabout the proper ones?!! Bronze and made of real metallic casing, that shined. It was real battle-armour. These are just coloured plastic 👿

I think it’s a very good idea to use the Sontarans
in an auidio and i definly hop they do more. I would
love a Big Finish with the eighth Doctor battling those
potato heads from outta space. By the way booboo out
of the white cased Supreme, the mysterious yellow cased
Eternal, the blue cased Stratagists, the orange cased scientists
and the red Drones – which is you favorite? My fave is the
    Stratagist! 🙂

I think they might hire a recent Sontaran actor like Christopher Ryan or Dan Starkey to do the voice.

    I think that’s unlikely.
