Yes, there where Rumours of a Late September Release, But probably with the B&M Releases just Coming out I wonder if Character Options has Delayed the Vortex Set for a Week or Two so as not to Clash?

      It’s stuck in a chronic hysteresis loop……

A little disappointed to hear Harrops are now focusing more on nu Who rather than continuing on the classics.

They are just diversifying the range a bit, there are still more classic figures to come and releasing “modern” (some of these are still twenty years ago bear in mind) monsters is hardly anything new for them.

If they just include a nu Who character once maybe twice a year thats fine but with so many classics not yet touched, they really need to increase their annual releases.

I reckon the BBC have imposed this on Harrops, the lads at Harrops have always professed theyre classic fans. The odd nu who at christmas but 5 figures which will take up more than five months worth of slots. I’d have much preferred to have seen Harrops diversify into Who vehicles space crafts and buildings rather than nu who items. In fact before nu who Id have preferred to have seen the Gerry Anderson range resurrected.

And Thunderbirds being in its 60th year as well. Gerry andersons daughter was just on breakfast tv.

Yes several notable Anderson birthdays this year which I’d like to have seen Harrops commemorate…. I’m told the BBC have nothing to do with the decision nu Who items. I’m glad to hear that although this seems like a swerve from what Harrops have always said was their preferred area. Even I might not have minded seeing a few of the new monsters based on the classic series spread over several Christmases (as has been Harrops previous practice) but in my book there are still way too many classic aliens – and other items from the classics – waiting to be done. I don’t think I’m giving anything away be saying Sil is proving a complex piece to complete and I think it was confirmed on site that several other classic figures are waiting in the wings. As always I look forward to seeing what those are. My interest in classic Who continues to build. My interest in nu Who is all but dead.

Bearing in mind that they only make a couple of hundred pieces per figure, perhaps they’ve hit a couple of hundred emails from people saying they’d happily buy new series stuff and aren’t interested in classics? They could potentially do better business with a big villain from New Who versus a lesser-known classic villain with more tangled rights and clearances, or more technical production needs. (The other possibility is that a number of classic fans have completely abandoned the series and its merchandise, but let’s avoid going into reasons why there and getting the thread deleted…)

Rex if I remember one piece which took longer to sell than usual was the Ood – I remember I couldnt decide whether to buy and actually got it a few day after release. Unheard of with most classic pieces.

Probably not the right time or place, but i was very sad to (belatedly) hear that Christopher H Bidmead had passed away……

He wrote three excellant Dr Who stories Logopolis, Castrovalva and Frontios, which i watched at the time…..

And on video, many times since……and which will now get watched again, in memoriam………

It was sad Douglas. I enjoyed the stories he wrote and I enjoyed the stories done under his script editing run.

Pretty much all the 1980s Dr Who writers were brilliant……

I always laugh derisively, remembering how a teenage Chris Chibnall dared to critisise Pip and Jane Baker…..

Unlike him, they knew how to write excellant, humourous stories……

Even the worst thing they ever wrote (Time and the Rani) was over a hundred times better than anything Chris could ever do, or ever did…..

      September 28th, 2025 - 1:33pm

Have to disagree about 80’s writers. Most were good but some like pip and Jane Baker and Eric saward were not.

    • Douglas

      September 28th, 2025 - 3:36pm

      You jest, Missy…

      Eric Saward…..? Earthshock, Resurrection, Revelation……

      Timeless classics…..!

Not joking his stories are very much style over substance. His stories have huge plot holes in and in terms of revelation the doctor is an afterthought who has so little to do with the story. Also in that story the people who torture and beat up a woman are used as comic relief and get rewarded at the end when the doctor tells them how to use the plant. Both his dalek stories are over complicated with too many plots and too many plot holes. And before you say I’m too young to appreciate them I saw them as a teenager on first broadcast. You are entitled to your opinion mine is that saward is not a great writer and was a terrible script editor. In an interview in dwb he stated “50% of the stories in my time were cr*p.” well it was at his door for that as his job as script editor was to fix them!

It was certainly different times, back in the 80s…..

Orsini stabbing Kara…. you couldn’t do that today….!

But with such great characters as Lytton, say, the Doctor should be occasionally sidelined..

Rather than with non entity characters today…..Danny Pink, or River Song….

Is lytton a great character? I always found saward massively overrated

    • Douglas

      September 30th, 2025 - 9:53am

I use the term ‘today’ rather loosely…..

I thought Lytton the second best Dr Who ‘villian’ ever……after the War Lord…..!

But regarding massive plot holes in 80s Dr Who….here’s the one that’s driving me bezerk….

Why did the Brigadier only forget about the Doctor’s female companions, but remembered all the male UNIT ones……?

    • Amypondfan

      September 30th, 2025 - 11:47am

Also how is the brig retired in 1977 when invasion is meant to be set around 1977 and Sarah Jane says she is from 1980 meaning the time warrior unit sequence must be set around then.

    • Amypondfan

      September 30th, 2025 - 11:51am

Oops invasion is, set around 1975/6 Abominable snowmen is circa 1935 and web is forty odd years later and invasion is five years after web so invasion is somewhere between 1974-1979

      September 30th, 2025 - 1:05pm

      The UNIT timeliness, Amy……

Many people have tried to get their heads round them…..

      Can’t be done…..

Just accept all the inconsistencies, sit back, and enjoy

Proposed Season 21 Collection extra, ‘Eric Saward in Psychoanalysis’ – Matthew Sweet finds himself out of his depth and hands over to the most popular television psychiatrist the budget can stretch to. (“So, Eric, do you think you subconsciously put out Attack of the Cybermen to embarrass the producer?”)

Another two 1:6 figues up for pre order by Master Replicas.
4th Doctor and 12th Doctor. It feels wrong to put these up for pre order before the first two have arrived. Nobody wants a repeat of Big Chief

Well That’s Fantastic The Fishmonger. That Master Replicas Signed Edition of the Tom Baker 12 inch Figure looks like the One I had Fully Payed for on Pre-Order for about 3 Years from Big Chief Studios. Since I payed for it I wonder if Master Replicas will send it to me when its in stock?
