Is the new big finish app supposed to be a bit broken, is it common knowledge while everyone waits for it to be sorted out or do I need to get in contact with someone to tell them all my stuff is missing. I appreciate it’s brand new

It’s not working properly for me. Not all my purchases are available and some of the ones that are, aren’t working. E.g. I can’t download the chimes of midnight! of all things. Already missing the old one

I see Sixteen12 now has a page dedicated to models that never went on to be released, including pictures of a very nice classic TARDIS console.

      July 28th, 2024 - 1:23pm

50 years ago, I was lucky enough to win a Sun newspaper prize in a ‘Design a Dr Who monster’ competition. The prize was a visit to the BBC studios in Shepherds Bush to watch Dr Who being made.
Was there when the scenes of the Doctor and The Great One for Episode Six of Planet of the Spiders were being recorded.
Ysanne Churchman was in the studio, doing spider voices.
I still have the old autograph book that I took with me on that day in which she signed: “Best wishes from Ysanne Churchman (Alpha Centauri’s voice)”.
Autograph’s also collected from Jon Pertwee, Maureen Morris (“Doctor Who’s final adversary – The Great One”), Kismet Delgado (“Queen Spider”), Gareth Hunt, and Ian Scoones (“special effects”). And Elisabeth Sladen, who gave me her personal BBC script for the day (Wednesday 1 May 1974), which I still have.
Sadly, after 50 years, I don’t remember much about that studio visit and have only vague memories of meeting Ysanne. But will never forget that she was part of making it such a special day.

That’s a lovely story, simon.ss1. How old were you at the time?

    • simon.ss1

      July 30th, 2024 - 1:36pm

      Thanks, 76 Totter’s Lane.
      I was 15.
Still have all the stuff that I kept about the competition, including the original Sun newspaper (March 23, 1974) in which the win was announced, my original monster drawing sent to the Sun which they returned, and letters confirming the win and arrangements. And still have the model that the Sun made of my monster which was part of the prize. It’s about 11 inches high. (Monster had lots of tentacles and the model-maker used toy rubber worms for them!) Plus a photo of Jon Pertwee, in full costume, taken during a break in filming, with me and the three other winners.
      It was an unforgettable day.
Except I have now forgotten most of it!
But having been a Dr Who fan since the very beginning, it was the very best thing ever that could happen to 15-year-old me. And now at age 66, even though I don’t recall much of it, still remember it as one of the stand-out days of my life.

This brings back memories: When I was much younger I saw the filming of the Jon Pertwee story with the Sea Devils. As a youngster then it was absolutely magical to see Doctor Who actually being filmed. Happy days indeed!

Happened to find a Seveth doctor German dvd while on holiday for a few coins. Its called seventh doctor volume 2, five discs, includes all stories in season 25, and was made 2015. Am getting the new bluray collection set anyway but am wondering, does it include the vhs extended version of silver nemesis and/or is it restored a little from the normal dvds?

I don’t have this myself so I can’t say whether there has been any further restoration from the UK DVD releases, but I do know that the VHS version of Silver Nemesis was included in this set.

    • Gordon

      July 23rd, 2024 - 6:08pm

It wasn’t included on the separate german season releases however It was included on the complete 7th doctor German release. The version that was included in the German release however used a mix of the dvd restoration and vhs footage due to the extended master tapes being lost at that time. However a couple of months after the release the master tapes were discovered as it had been mislabeled so the version on the collection set will be using the rediscovered master tapes.

Many thanks for the responses. Have gotten home and looked at the dvds. The release, as you’ve said, isn’t the same as the complete 7th doctor boxset sadly, and doesn’t have the extended version. The picture quality looks like the normal dvd. Obselete soon anyway with the collection box. Was just curious

Black tree design are the people who sell the harlequin figures nowadays, but since I only got into buying them under black tree, that’s what I always call them, but fans are probably more familiar with calling them harlequin miniatures.

Grahame Mallard as Harg (not Harry, as the listing would have it, and not Davison era – someone at the auction house didn’t check wikipedia…).

I’m particularly looking at the Cyberman head, as that looks like a pull from the original mould or at least a new mould taken from a genuine prop, what with how the grooves are made.

This is what I don’t understand? How can a book that has just been released, already be on a second printing? Surely they can’t have sold the full first print run? Something doesn’t add up here?

    • Mrs Croot

      July 2nd, 2024 - 10:42am

Gonna assume that all the first editions where at that doctor who convention there (mom comic con was it?), you could see them on display. Maybe they sold really well and were onto a second run, and any first editions are left overs. Maybe they didn’t sell well but first edition was a smaller run only made for the convention, so there’s going to be less. Just some theories.

    • anon

      July 2nd, 2024 - 2:11pm

I contacted the Publishers to find out & they told me they did 2 small print runs of this title. Obviously the First Edition is now harder to get hold of. This is the first time in buying many Doctor Who books, that I have had difficulty in getting hold of a First Edition copy. So leaving a gap in my collection!

Never mind, you can go elsewhere on the net and see the two still images stretched out into a fifteen (fifteen!) minute video. Editing is a dying art…

Precisely, no level playfield, “go elsewhere on the net” will eventually kill this site as i have often said.

It’ll surely be a while before that happens. Going elsewhere on the net is too painful for a lot of people, those who still like facts and conciseness. What kind of person is going to endure a fifteen minute video (fifteen!) so that they can see two iffy images and hear tons of waffle? I’d rather just come here and read facts, see good pictures, and find useful info. One stop shop, no BS = great.

One of the perils of going on X, which I’m doing less and less now, is the number of muppets childishly posting spoilers and unwanted reveals – I just barely avoided Sutekh spoilers before the BBC aired the final episode, and now I cannot unsee the new B&M wave the algorithm just plonked on my screen. I was really enjoying the anticipation of the official reveal, and its gone just because some twit wanted to show off and feel big for 5 seconds… :O(

the social media generation has no respect for embargoes or copying and spreading images that dont belong to them if if asked no to (and never giving credit as to where they came from either) x is full of clickbaiters all wanting to get the news out first regardless of any consequences, This problem has been growing for years and is now uncontrollable.

I’d like to post my thoughts about social media, but I’m having a pleasant day and don’t want to spoil that. And I don’t want to get banned for being an angry potty mouth.

I’m astounded to discover that my one time favourite choice to play the Doctor – Robert Powell – provides the voice of the ‘Time Lord Immemorial’ in the audio release of the same name. As someone who has always found the audios to be something of a let down, I’m curious to know if this one is considered to be any good. It appears to be a ninth Dr. story and I never much cared for Eccleston’s era. So is it worth a listen ?

It’s part of an arc so you may find yourself lost, especially considering there are other audio original characters included. Granted, I did enjoy this one but I do love Liv and the Lumiat and Nine a loooot.

Thanks for the info. Really wish Robert had got the role when Tom left – would have changed the course of the show for the better I reckon. If I bought this it would be on the basis of wanting to hear him.
