Figure Set: 5th Doctor & Masters Tardis

Action Figure Collectors Set: 5th Doctor Castrovalva

Due 20th August 2012 Price £19.99

Contents:
1 x Post-regeneration Fifth Doctor action figure.
1 x Shrunken figure accessory.
1 x Master’s TARDIS as a Stone Column.

The newly regenerated Fifth Doctor escapes with his companions back to the TARDIS. Suffering from post-regeneration trauma, he only narrowly manages to save the ship from destruction as it plunges back to Event One, the hydrogen in-rush that preceded the creation of the universe.

He then seeks sanctuary in the peaceful domain of Castrovalva, only to discover that it is an illusory, dimensionally paradoxical trap set for him by the Master with the unwilling aid of a kidnapped Adric.

The Doctor eventually wins the day by enlisting the help of the Castrovalvan people who, although also part of the Master’s creation, are nevertheless able to exercise free will.

The Master’s TARDIS
Whilst on the planet Traken the Fourth Doctor discovers that the Master, his long time nemesis, is trying to take control of a complex Traken bio-electronic power known as ‘The Source’. The Source would allow the Master unparalleled power, and the ability to regenerate his dying body. When the Master’s TARDIS is destroyed by the power feedback of The Source it is revealed he has another and thus he escapes to encounter the Doctor again. Their next encounter finds the Master’s TARDIS, with its fully functional Chameleon Circuit, disguised first as a Police Box and latterly on the planet Logopolis, as a sandstone Doric column. The Master’s TARDIS stayed in this favoured form during several encounters with the Fifth Doctor, before changing once again.

The Masters Tardis
Collection grows… Only a horse-box, fireplace, Concorde, iron maiden and several others to go!

Will you be buying this set?…

No Shipping email from FP but mine turned up this morning. Still it’s probably the strangest set from CO/UT released, when you compare it to the original Master Version Mock-Up picture that was due for release? Still a nice set though….

Great set can’t wait to get it.
I think they really should make a Tardis Playset of the Master Tardis also there should be a Playset of one the Classic era Tardis. Give them working lights and sound like the 9th/10th Doctor’s Tardis Playset. Also a Bessie would be cool. It could come with the 3rd Doctor and Liz Shaw. Be like the Christmas boxset of 11th Doctor that came with Amy Pond in the police costume.

You can get a micro figure of Bessie from CORGI. They’re really cool. They’re like vintage figures which makes them feel special and cool.

Why I would really like for a good toy one that you can use with the classic Doctor Who figures.

    • Judooning

      August 21st, 2012 - 12:48pm

Mine hasn’t either. The only reason it says it’s sold out is because they have not had their shipment delivered. This set would have been delayed like most classic sets get delayed. They will add a new pre-order date soon. It should only be delayed by a couple of weeks if that.

So don’t worry, we’re all in the same situation 🙂

The last four or so classic sets have really been a let down.

This is inaccurate and cheap beause the 5th Doctor didn’t have the boots in Castrovalva, the Remembrance Davros because his eye is still the same when it should be green and without the wires going in, the Seeds of Doom set because the Doctor’s coat is unchanged and it should be darker.

The Attack of the Cybermen set I like though, but I will already have two other Peri’s.

I will get the Melkur set, the Invasion of Time, and the Sharaz Jek with Peri. 🙂 Those are good ones. 🙂

WHAT A WASTE OF TIME AND MONEY!Certainly will never buy this set unless it was 50p!Where on earth(or Gallifrey)has the master got to. We still do not have a proper Anthony Ainley Master, just Kamelion(don’t get me started on him)as the master, which in itself was a money saver because it used the same sculpt as the John Simm master!

    • Anonymous

      July 17th, 2012 - 9:49pm

I think the 5th doctor in this set looks good.
However CO why release this with the masters TARDIS seriously?!

maybe CO might be waiting for something with that master figure (I may be wrong here and this may sound stupid but) like they may release him with his fireplace TARDIS.

Am I the only one who thinks they should do a time and the rani 2 pack with the master (in normal suit) and the rani?

    • McGann is The Doctor.

      July 21st, 2012 - 1:59pm

Hey you guys. I am quite annoyed they are holiding off on releasing a proper Anthony Ainley Master in his proper outfit. He’s my favourite incarnation of the Master ! ❗

Anyway, the Master wasn’t in Time and the Rani, that’s Mark of the Rani. If they make a Mark of the Rani set I hope it has the 6th Doctor in his waistcoat like in the story when he took his coat off.

I also would like a Rani figure from Time and the Rani, with Mel and the Doctor in his Sixth Doctor clothes.

    • andrew

      August 20th, 2012 - 4:02pm

Yes, a Rani figure is much appreciated, and with all these famous 2 packs, they could release her with her cabinet TARDIS? It would go well with the Master’s TARDIS collection as CO seem to get all the TARDIS’ right.

      So do I.

Time and the Rani ? Or Mark of the Rani ?

I hope it’s Time and the Rani, even though it’s not as good a story.

With a Tetrap, or Melaine (both their heads are removable so they can have the Rani in disguise).

OR the 7th Doctor in his predecessor’s outfit ! 🙂

    • andrew

      June 30th, 2012 - 11:34pm

I would like her like this set, with her TARDIS, like as a cabinet from her fist story, I think it was mark of the Rani? Correct me if Im wrong, but I’f like her with her TARDIS, or as you say, a tetrap would be nice, as Dapol released one and it would be interesting to see the differences. Obviously COs would be better, lol.
I’m looking forward to the Jo Grant figure, you think the 3 docs one will be released in a set, or a two pack?

    • McGann is The Doctor.

      July 21st, 2012 - 2:01pm

A set probably. I hope it comes with the Third Doctor because then we will have all the Doctors as they appeared in that story ! (the Eleven Doctors set has the 2nd and 1st Doctor from the Three Doctors story). 🙂

It will most likely come with that gel-guard thing.

What ? Horns of Niimon is aweful, I have seen clips of it, the jokes are aweful, that guy “My Dreams of CON-QUEEST !!” is hammier than a pork factory, Creature from the Pit is better.

I’m going to take the scarf from the City of Death Doctor and put it on the Destiny of the Daleks Doctor, so it looks like him from that story (Creature from the Pit). Once I get it, that is. 🙂

They should also release a web planet set with the zarbi, monoptra, lava gun and the primative grub like creatures in the story!!! and its a chance for them to release a 1st doctor companion! also the idea of a warriors of the deep set would be heeps alsome!!! when will CO think about these things.

One thing I just thought of, I know this was initially going to be a master set, but if they changed the Master to the Doctor, why not make it a whole doctor set and include a Zero cabinet? That would be a cool set and diorama, I really want CO to focus on companions now, mainly, Jo (who we are getting soon), Jamie (<same), sarah jane, Tegan, Nyssa and Adric. Maybe even Ace would be cool. Plus a Rani is needed.

True they are missing out on companions! but they should release a set with all the classic series companions in it like they did with the eleven doctors box set! I know it would be expensive but it would be worth it! and they should release a tardis set too now we have all the doctors what do you guys think?

    • David

      June 28th, 2012 - 5:28am

I think as a company they are kind of ‘conservative’, i mean they make amazing figures but it feels like they don’t want to risk too much, they prefer to do things step by step, slowly. They don’t understand though how many people like doctor who and would buy other new figures (series 6: how successful would be a Series 6 set including Handbot, Minotaur, Sea Siren, Rory, Madame Kovarian..5 new figure in one set..on forbidden planet shelf..80pound..how many would buy it? LOADS!!!)

  • KORSAIR

  • Lady Macbeth

Admittedly, I’m a little confused (or a little behind, or both). What is Character Options? Is it a production company or a vendor? I thought the 5-inch “Doctor Who” figures (classic and modern) were manufactured and distributed by Underground Toys…

    Reply
    • booboo

      June 27th, 2012 - 9:19am

Character Options hold the master licence to produce both classic and new series doctor Who figures and other items.

Character for a while have only produced new series figures and marketed them themselves.

Underground Toys are a separate company and distributor who commission Character Options to make these figures, mostly classic, for them on their behalf.

Without Underground Toys commitment to this most of the classic figures would not exist.

If you had enough money you could probably go to Character and ask them to produce a figure of your choice subject to numerous approvals.

    • Lady Macbeth

      July 4th, 2012 - 10:22am

Thank you so much for clarifying, booboo! I’d waited my entire life for a company to produce decent classic Dr. Who figures (sorry, Dapol), so I’m grateful to both Underground Toys and Character Options for their commitment (though, admittedly, my wallet isn’t so thrilled).

Usually i like classic sets better than the other sets, this set would be cool, but frankly i don’t need another 5th Doctor figure, and probably a few others might not like varients. But my attitude would change if the figure was the master instead. All probably a new figure all together, like Adric.

    • andrew

      June 27th, 2012 - 7:18pm

In what way do you mean a zero room? Do you mean a diorama? Like half of it, or the whole room? If so, it would certainly be good, plus if they did release one, if or when they eventually release a classic TARDIS set, it would go well with it.

    • Steven Price

      June 28th, 2012 - 1:26pm

I am highly suspicious of this release. I think that shortly after this set is released then they will release the same set again, only this time it will contain the Master and they will call it a Logopolis set. After all, if a Master set came out first, who would buy this set, with ANOTHER doctor cobbled together from previous releaes? Not nearly as many people I reckon. Very sneaky, underhanded marketing. I hope Character Options is not going to screw the public AGAIN. I will definitely NOT be buying this set.
