February 7th, 2019 - 7:21pmHaven’t they run out of ideas for bookazines by now?

February 8th, 2019 - 10:54amapparently not. due out in a week or so strange not to have an image yet

February 8th, 2019 - 11:03amhad seen this cover a while back but they keep changing them from the previews https://www.previewsworld.com/SiteImage/CatalogImage/STL108001?type=1

February 8th, 2019 - 1:54pmWhat even is this one? The cover and title make it seem about the TARDIS (which they’ve already done) and the tagline makes it sound about stories set in the future (which is the last issue). The Essential format has been done to death and the features and interviews in them would be much better suited to the main magazine, which could do with more of the type of journalism seen in the Essentials. Please, please let this format rest.

February 8th, 2019 - 2:30pmWhere theres a will theres always another way.Just as long as they can justify stretching it out with different content. I agree that they have covered just about all bases and it is starting to feel less ‘essential’. I think i,ll make this my last.
James Guthrie
February 8th, 2019 - 4:15pmThat’ll be a place-holder cover I suspect, in the posted link – after all, the TARDIS interior doesn’t look like that any more.
Relative Dimensions could be about the Doctor’s family (what little we know about it), or companions’ relatives (about which we know rather more).
But the likeliest subject is the dimensions that are relative to Time (Essential #12) and Space (Essential #11) – where are set stories like:
The Celestial Toymaker,
The Mind Robber,
Inferno,
Warriors’ Gate,
bits of The Trial Of A Time Lord (and by extension, any other Matrix-based adventure),
Rise Of The Cybermen /The Age Of Steel,
Turn Left,
The Girl Who Waited,
Heaven Sent,
It Takes You Away.
And covered in loads of books, comics and audios.
No inside knowledge, mind – just speculation – but gosh I’m getting excited for it now!

February 8th, 2019 - 4:26pmI’d rather have updated editions of early issues like the Daleks, TARDIS, Cybermen, actual ESSENTIALS, than stuff like sideways story analyses which stretches the format to breaking point. Do these actually sell? There are still copies of number 8 in my local WHS, and other desperate sci-fi bookazines (i.e. the SFX 100 Greatest Characters made up largely of opinions and pictures, and the Annual which is reprinted promotional materials) also clog up the shelves. It’s unneeded and a desperate grab for money. Who would casually spend £10 on a magazine, no matter how glossy the cover?
Demdike@CultLabs
February 9th, 2019 - 1:27pmI never even saw the Dalek one in the shops. I went looking for it several times so i would love a reprint of that, possibly updated to feature any tv appearances since.
I don’t know which year it actually came out but it’s possible Into The Dalek, Magicians Apprentice and certainly Twice Upon a Time and Resolution weren’t featured.

February 9th, 2019 - 2:02pmIt was published before day of the doctor.

February 9th, 2019 - 5:46pmI don,t think they would republish something that far back but would rather include aforementioned stories in an appropriate theme as an updated continuation.

February 6th, 2019 - 6:16pmNot a vast fan of Tom’s last season…but I wouldnt mind seeing the Foamasi the Melkur and Meglos produced as eaglemoss figures. Ive stopped having the magazine but I will concede the cover makes that edition more tempting that the 13th Doctor and her chums.

February 5th, 2019 - 4:20pmNever quite understood the obsession with covers for doctor who. Whether it’s the books, videos, DVD, bluray, CD or the magazine someone always has to complain. You know there is a reason why the expression “never judge a book by the cover” became a cliche! What matters is the content not whether the cover is “good” something so meaningless as for everyone that hates the cover there will be an equal number that love it. Shame we have reached a time in the world where people feel the need to Express their feelings about everything publicly. Me, I just shrug and move on if I don’t like something. Try it. You’ll feel better…
The Flying Shark
February 6th, 2019 - 8:47pmI completely agree. Obviously the cover is important to sell it (and for the record, I think this is a beautiful one) but equally a prospective buyer would look at the contents first to see if it’s worth £6 (and please let’s not open up that can of worms right now). Doctor Who content isn’t skin deep. And don’t get me started on people moaning about the new logo being on everything. The 80s logo was on everything too and probably ruined people’s collections then too. It isn’t a new thing by any means.

February 7th, 2019 - 12:05amThe logo thing does make me laugh. Between 1973 and 1990 the target range had variations on four logos. The pertwee logo, the logo with doctor curved above the who, the neon tube logo and the McCoy logo. And it made no difference whatsoever to the most important aspect of the books – the writing!
The Flying Shark
February 7th, 2019 - 9:12amSpot on! The superb Myth Makers adaptation was no worse for having the neon logo on, and the very first Dalek story never changed whether it had the Pertwee or Baker or even Cornflake logo on!

February 9th, 2019 - 8:58pmAmazing that we are getting comments about the macra cover that completely illustrate my point from above!

February 5th, 2019 - 12:28pmI do rather like Season 18. The only weak story for me in that season is ‘Meglos’. I greatly enjoy all the others, even ‘The Leisure Hive’. I might buy this issue of Doctor Who Magazine. I haven’t bought it for a while. Well not since the dire Series 11 started.

February 4th, 2019 - 10:09pmWhat a horrible murky cover. Least said about the bizarre 90s techno font the better.

February 5th, 2019 - 7:49amDoes it ever get boring being negative?
Because it’s getting boring reading negative comments all the time without real constructive criticism.
Ollie
February 5th, 2019 - 12:50pmI see Melkur, Meglos, a Marshman, a Foamasi and the Gateway to N-Space in the background… Should have gone to Specsavers, Anonymous! 😉

February 5th, 2019 - 4:07pmApparently being negative is the new thing…

February 4th, 2019 - 6:10pmWhat does everyone think the next blu ray box set will be because hopefully they will announce it in this issue, im hoping for season 10

February 4th, 2019 - 7:19pmI’m expecting season 10 next but not expecting it to get announced till next issue.

February 6th, 2019 - 11:34amNope nothing there

February 4th, 2019 - 4:25pmA poor cover full of rubbish monsters. Not a fan of Season 18 ( the fun and enjoyment has been sucked out of the show) so don`t hold out much hope for the content.
James Guthrie
February 4th, 2019 - 9:48pmConversely, I think it’s a brilliant cover full of great monsters. I’m a huge fan of season 18 (plenty of fun and enjoyment to be had) so I think the content will be right up my strasse. Opinions, eh? Love ‘em! ❤️

February 4th, 2019 - 2:59pmI’m not entirely sure the wisdom of putting a Foamasi on the cover. They look pretty cheap, and its inclusion might put off new fans of Doctor Who from buying the magazine.
