Forthcoming Classic Doctor Who DVD’s including The Tenth Planet, Terror of the Zygons, Scream of the Shalka, The Ice Warriors and more…
Doctor Who: The Tenth Planet
The TARDIS arrives in December 1986 at a South Pole Space Tracking station where the personnel, under the command of General Cutler, are engaged in trying to talk down a manned space capsule that has got into difficulty.
The base is invaded by a force of alien Cybermen. The Cybermen’s world, Mondas, is draining energy from Earth – once its ‘twin planet’ – and the situation will soon become critical
Doctor Who Terror of the Zygons
Another adventure for everyone’s favourite time-traveller.
Answering the Brigadier’s space/time telegraph, the Doctor (Tom Baker), Sarah and Harry arrive in the village of Tulloch, near Loch Ness. A series of attacks have taken place on local oil rigs, and many are blaming the legendary monster.
The Doctor discovers the creature to be the Skarasen – cyborg pet of invading aliens the Zygons. Their own planet having been destroyed and their spaceship crippled, these deadly shape-shifters are now intent upon taking control of the planet Earth.
Doctor Who: Scream of the Shalka
The first official, fully animated Doctor Who story! Starring Richard E. Grant.
The TARDIS lands in a small English village in 2003, where the population are living in fear from a malevolent alien force.
With the help of UNIT and his new friend Alison, the Doctor discovers that a race called Shalka are residing underground, preparing to strip away the Earth’s ozone layer and embark on a full-scale invasion of the planet.
Doctor Who: The Ice Warriors
Doctor Who: The Ice Warriors – The classic Second Doctor adventure – complete at last with two animated episodes!
In the distant future, Earth faces a new Ice Age. While a dedicated team of scientists battle to hold the approaching glaciers at bay, a startling discovery is made deep within the ice… an alien warrior, frozen for millennia.
When the Doctor, Jamie and Victoria arrive they soon discover Earth is under threat from the Ice Warriors – fearsome Martians intent on conquering our planet for themselves…
Doctor Who – The Monster Collection
Take a trip through time and space to meet creatures and enemies that always came back for more…

September 2nd, 2013 - 12:39pmI am thinking of getting the tenth planet or the ice warriors but I’m not sure.

HornsOfAzal
August 23rd, 2013 - 12:28pmInteresting change of style for the covers of these releases theyre almost like classic oil paintings in style cant say Im overly keen on that ice warriors one though….ice warriors had transparent/silvery ‘visors’ in that story if the colour photos from that serial are anything to go by….Pity they didnt base the cover on the classic still of varga by the ice face like the much superior achilleos book cover.

August 22nd, 2013 - 7:22pmif only scream of the shalka was canon
MasterKasterborous
August 22nd, 2013 - 8:05pmEverything can be cannon if you want. Don’t let it ruin your enjoyment of the story. Cannon is something that I think varies from person to person.
The Monitor
August 22nd, 2013 - 9:15pmAny association with the Doctor Who logo makes it valid merchandise. But whether it is canon is a different matter. I will buy it because it says “Doctor Who”. Chances of coming out of the cellophane are minuscule. Dreamland and Infinite Quest are still sealed. Why don’t I watch these? Because there seems more value in rewatching something I have already seen than watching animation.
For me the strongest canonical bond to transmitted non-animated Doctor Who is Big Finish audio, by miles.

August 22nd, 2013 - 10:43pmI would have prefered this to have been the official continuation
HornsOfAzal
August 23rd, 2013 - 12:56amI still think the william hartnell tv comic strip where he met santa is canon and in between televised episodes patrick troughtons doctor took on some sabre toothed gorillas with baseball bats made from a new rubber called squidge…if big finish stuff is canon why not……
MasterKasterborous
August 23rd, 2013 - 9:10amHornsOfAzal; it’s more fun that way, isn’t it!?

August 23rd, 2013 - 9:25amThe shalka doctor should have been the forgotten doctor in the name of the doctor

August 22nd, 2013 - 11:28amIf the restoration team is really standing down after the moonbase . Is steve roberts and the bbc going toput an end to the wild stories of the return of missing stories?

August 22nd, 2013 - 1:25pmOf course it’s not. The DVD team didn’t know last time until the announcement itself.
Besides, if there had been a recovery, what would they be saying? They wouldn’t be shouting out that there’s going to be more DVDs when there couldn’t possibly be any, are they? It would raise suspicions greatly.
We won’t have a clue if there is any truth in these rumours until either an announcement happens or the DVD range does actually come to an end.

August 21st, 2013 - 11:58amIt’s a bit pointless buying Scream of the Shalka for £16 when you can go to the classic Doctor Who website and watch it for free.
bryan simcott
August 21st, 2013 - 3:54pmIts considerably less at BBC shop (with 10% off code its even better)
RP0813)
Plus the extras will be seen for the first time and a new making of too.
Not too shabby IMHO
MasterKasterborous
August 21st, 2013 - 6:21pmI think it’s really that you get the features and that you can watch it on TV that make it worthwhile. I think it’s great from a completest view that it’s on DVD.

Anonymous
August 20th, 2013 - 7:55pmMoonbase has been delayed until next year.
pathdw98
August 20th, 2013 - 8:13pmYes, DWM confirmed in a tweet that The Moonbase has been delayed until 2014 to give them more time to finish the animation.
Mark
August 24th, 2013 - 9:45amThere’s also a small chance they have found the 2 missing episodes for this story. But we won’t go into that on here 🙂
lee moone
August 20th, 2013 - 7:12pmI wish they would release a box set of the Sarah Jane adventures with the 10th & 11th Drs and the Brig episodes, as im not keen on buying the whole series just for these episodes. Anyone out there listening? For add extra how about including those Dr Who and Sally-Anne Maths Spoof? I’m sure you would make money on it for those who wouldn’t ordinarily have bought the Sarah Jane Series.
Cheers
driftwooddrwho
August 20th, 2013 - 9:19pmThe one with the 11th dr and Jo Grant is on The Green Death: Special Edition
lee moone
August 21st, 2013 - 12:23amYeah I know about the 11th Dr/Jo release on Green Death, but won’t be re buying it just for that or other tweak of the extras, but would like to see the other SA as mentioned, in a boxset together. Why not? After all they are doing monster collections.
Doom Dalek
August 20th, 2013 - 7:02pmThese DVDS all look great, so going 2 get them! 😀
The Supreme Dalek
August 20th, 2013 - 6:06pmWho thinks every episode from ‘Rose’ onwards should be released in the Classic DVD style? It means the New Series wouldn’t look different to the Classic DVDs.
Trenzalore
August 20th, 2013 - 6:18pmMEEEE!!! But that would take a while and cost a lot so I doubt they will
Nicholas
August 20th, 2013 - 6:35pmI would. And as they are re-releases they wouldn’t be as expensive as a brand new DVD.
Doom Dalek
August 20th, 2013 - 7:03pmYes they should plz BBC if you can see this do all the new eps like this 2, I’m begging You! Plz

August 20th, 2013 - 8:10pmIf it really bothers you that they don’t match up there is always the DVD Files.
pathdw98
August 21st, 2013 - 12:38amyes. there is a lot more extras they can do as well if done in the classic style like production subtitles, new commentaries, full confidentials, new documentaries, series 2 tardisodes, and of course to have matching covers.
MrWho63
August 20th, 2013 - 5:57pmi think they should do rose foward in classic style. i would buy
Trenzalore
August 20th, 2013 - 5:27pmWhat’s the ‘more’ part, It says “The Tenth Planet, Terror of the Zygons, Scream of the Shalka, The Ice Warriors and more…” so what else is coming out?
booboo
August 20th, 2013 - 5:30pmthe monster collection, it refers to more in the article
Trenzalore
August 20th, 2013 - 5:41pmOh okay, do you like the monster collection booboo?
The TARDIS
August 20th, 2013 - 5:25pmWill The Moonbase (when it finally makes it out) have The Underwater Menace episode 2?
Anonymous
August 20th, 2013 - 6:27pmNo, it will be a separate release with animation.
The TARDIS
August 20th, 2013 - 6:56pmHas that actually been confirmed?
Anonymous
August 20th, 2013 - 7:08pmIt was sorta announced on Twitter
Anonymous
August 20th, 2013 - 7:57pmThe separate release was confirmed by DWM. Animation comes from comments by the people in charge of the range.
The TARDIS
August 21st, 2013 - 8:55amI think it will look quite good with animation, the fish people are just perfect for cartoons!
Trenzalore
August 20th, 2013 - 5:25pmGetting them all as my shop near me usually get’s them all as they come out, not getting the monster collection as it’s just a pointless excuse to re release the DVD’s
the 13th Doctor
August 20th, 2013 - 5:00pmI think i will try and get them all except for the monster collection mainly because i have all those stories all ready.
bryan simcott
August 20th, 2013 - 4:39pmApparently Moonbase has been delayed till Jan 2014. (according to DWM twitter a week ago)
and Steve Roberts of the restoration team have infromed us that they are standing down and have no more dvd`s planned to work on after the moonbase. the series has come to s natural end .
I ownder if collections in slip cases at value for money prices is the way now. as the team have no budgets to even do commentaries/making off`s/ etc
Rooners
August 20th, 2013 - 4:34pmCool…that just leaves Moonbase and then all surviving stories would have been released on DVD…I think….so next year will see special edition versions of those that were released a few years back.
Anonymous
August 20th, 2013 - 5:27pmNo, its The Moonbase, The Underwater Menace and then that’s it for the range. Done forever, there’s some debate going on over The Crusade, but by the sounds of things they aren’t going to do it because it could be seen as offensive (due to actors of one race wearing make up to look like members of another race to put it politely, they’d need to animate the actors like this and it could cause all manner of problems).
LG
August 20th, 2013 - 5:38pmI’m sorry but that’s just a bit silly, people should put things like that behind them, it was a whole part of that era. We have learned from those times and we now have some really great Black actors and comedians and so forth.
MasterKasterborous
August 20th, 2013 - 6:40pmThat’s just a fan assumption and has never been said. All we know is that The Moonbase is coming out with animation next year and that Underwater Menace 2 is also. It is most likely going to have its own release with animation.
If you want to support a release of The Crusade join the campaign on Twitter and Facebook at #AnimateCrusade

August 20th, 2013 - 8:01pmIt has been confirmed by the people in charge of the DVD range, although there hasn’t been an official announcement yet.

August 20th, 2013 - 8:12pmSorry, what has?
Anonymous
August 20th, 2013 - 8:14pmAnimation of The Underwater Menace.
MasterKasterborous
August 20th, 2013 - 9:28pmWhere has it been confirmed; do you have a quote?
Anonymous
August 20th, 2013 - 9:37pmUnfortunately not, I had the information passed onto me, but it was on Gallifrey Base I believe (or whatever it’s called now). I heard on the third of May so it will probably be around that point if you want to try and find something.
Sorry I can’t be of more help.
MasterKasterborous
August 21st, 2013 - 8:35amIt would have been on May 2 (for DWM subscribers) that the news of The Moonbase animation was confirmed. However, as far as I am aware, no such animation has been confirmed on The Underwater Menace. All we know is it’s getting a release with it’s third episode and restoration has taken place.
Anonymous
August 21st, 2013 - 10:34amSo it would make sense if they’ve gone online and announced that as well (or somebody asked them about it and they’ve confirmed it because of The Moonbase news).
“It would be more acceptable than it was on ‘Lost in Time’, but it’s never going to be perfect. That said, given that there’s no alternative, I don’t think that would stand in the way of a re-release if there was a commitment to animate the other two episodes. I’m not aware of that being the case however.”
That’s about The Crusade, which is far more recent but you can see from that
Anonymous
August 21st, 2013 - 10:36am*continued*
The Underwater Menace would surely follow the same procedure and the third episode would only qualify for a re-release if it was accompanied by animation.
Not quite the quote I was looking for (or indeed confirmation) but unfortunately it’s the best quote I can offer unless you want to do some digging yourself but it is out there.
