The Matt Smith boxset in particular includes ‘An Adventure in Space and Time’, so a UK release of the Smith boxset would offer it in proper 1080i 50fields per second as was broadcast.
Currently you can only find that specific copy of AAISAT on the now long out of print uk 50th Anniversary steelbook that costs an absolute bomb on eBay today. In the BBC’s infinite wisdom they decided not to release AAISAT on Blu-ray in 2014, but gladly let America have it of course, but in the wrong speed and altered audio pitch to 24fps progressive. Instead here in the UK we got a 576p downscaled dvd and that was it.
Tbh, hope I don’t jinx anything here but I’m surprised AAISAT is even included on this range – didn’t BBC iPlayer try to upload it in 2023 before some lowlife idiot threw his toys out the pram, causing chunks of it to get censored before being taken down altogether from the server?
Unless, dare I say it, this *is* the censored cut-down edit on the Smith boxset. If it is then this range can get stuffed. But if it’s the completely uncut original broadcast edit and we get a uk release I’m definitely pre-ordering it just for that special alone.

August 11th, 2026 - 5:18pmI watched a few episodes in BBC iPlayer and I have to.say the quality is not that good even the Classic Series some of the episodes are not very good picture quality these must be uploaded from the original master tapes some are just like watching the old VHS tapes as these were straight from the archives with the warning on the cover ‘due to the nature of the picture quality may very do not adjust your set! so not as good quality as the remastered DVD/Blu-ray versions. The BBC are in very difficult situation at the moment cutting jobs left right and centre as they are pushing towards a online only service by 2034. Now what does that mean for any future physical media releases after everything moves online, will people still buying it anymore then could they eventually cease making physical media altogether.
But the only thing people have to think about is with these online streaming services they can remove or censor a tv show or movie at anytime due to the expiry of contracts as they have to pay royalties to keep them.on their platforms. Where as we still now still can buy Doctor Who on DVD/Blu-ray then it’s yours to own forever no one can take that away or censor any material that may come up later on in the future. As there is always someone that wants to spoil things. I’m quite still surprised that the scene in Remembrance Of The Daleks the sign Ace sees in the window am not gonna say it on here but am sure some of you know what am taking about. Yeah am quite surprised that scene hasn’t been censored on the iPlayer. But that is just an example as some folk are easily offended these days even if they did censor it in the future that wouldn’t bother me as it doesn’t effect the dialogue of the story. But for now that scene stays. So my advice keep your DVD/Blu-ray physical media as long as possible.

August 14th, 2026 - 6:42pmYou’re correct in that there are several pre-dvd copies of serials such as ‘Planet of Fire’ on iPlayer, but they still aren’t anywhere acurate to the original broadcast master tapes. Moreso they could be vhs masters, or repeat masters from the 90’s, 00’s. So copies, of copies, several generations modified, recoloured, distorted, quality lost etc.
I’ve had the luck of being able to watch as-pure-as-possible broadcast masters of EastEnders from 1985, direct via the BBC’s own existing archive as it stands – bearing in mind the technology to digitize the tapes could be a decade plus old – but irrespective of that, those broadcast masters are the very best I’ve ever seen EastEnders look full stop. All the original grain and interlacing fully intact, crystal clear quality for 576p in digitial pixels at 50 fields per second. It felt like I’d given my eyes sockets a good rub and could see everything so much clearer – it put anything on iPlayer to complete shame, let alone the amount of blurring, distortion and waxiness done to the Classic Doctor Who Blu-rays, even as far back as Season 19 + 26 boxsets – when it comes down to video tape quality, these untampered, early EastEnders broadcast masters look a hundred times better, easily.

August 14th, 2026 - 8:43pmBabelbro: AAISAT was also on the 2014 UK and Aus 50th Blu-ray set in 50i, the steel being a reissue of it. You can often find the 2014 set used for under £35 now, and the more recent 50i German BD for less.

August 15th, 2026 - 12:55am@ The Unlicensed Physician – I could well be wrong but it sounds as if you’re referring to the box set with the ‘Day of the Doctor’ poster style artwork of Mcgann, Hurt, Tennant and Smith on the Blu-ray inlays – if so then that’s the American standards video published on UK + AUS discs, so the wrong speed and wrong pitch.
From my own experience that box set is also still relatively difficult to acquire.
Nevertheless the one and only correct broadcast version of AAISAT available on physical disc is from the 2021 50th Anniversary Steelbook, with the Sophie Cowdrey artwork in line with the current range of steel books, with the Chris Chibnall era logo on the front.
Not that I could possibly ever condone P1r@cy except for educational purposes, but there’s not even that route to get a correct copy of AAISAT. It’s always the Americanized incorrect copy every single time.
If the BBC have no intention of making it attainable by legal means then someone with that correct steelbook really ought to just bung it on Internet Archive for historical preservation purposes. It’s ridiculous how difficult and tedious it is to even try to get hold of it.

August 16th, 2026 - 6:50amNo, it’s 50i on that set – I picked one up myself. Day of the Doctor itself was 24p, with faulty sound to boot, but there was a replacement 50i disc made with fixed sound which they were still replacing fairly recently. Cex regularly have copies of the set, currently £40 plus postage but it does go cheaper.

August 16th, 2026 - 1:13pmMany thanks for the quick reply, this sounds like a box set I’ve yet to find in that case.
Ideally I would want to make my own singular Blu-ray from the ISO file from that specific box set. I am a purist when it comes to unedited broadcast versions of shows but it really pains me to this day that they left out the Delia Derbyshire scene in the sound room. It’s brief, but Derbyshire’s one of the ultimate icons of Doctor Who. It’s shocking that Gatiss etc. made that cut.
Nevertheless, to this day AAISAT is by far my favourite thing that the 2005 revival have created. The soundtrack is utterly gorgeous, I still get chills hearing it in my head. The whole thing completely blew Day of the Doctor out the water for me in 2013.

August 16th, 2026 - 3:42pmPerhaps you previously found a copy where some naughty person had swapped out the 50i disc for their American version? It wouldn’t be the first time a Who fan did something like that…
5051561002717 is the barcode UPC you need. It is the version with the four Doctor pictures on the individual cases, so you could keep that disc/case and flog the others to someone who’s only interested in the new series (if we can still call it the “new” series now?).
As for the Delia scene, it’s so short that I can’t figure out why it was removed either as it’s not really long enough to throw off the pacing. Maybe they felt the programme was too front heavy, biased to pre-broadcast events.

August 5th, 2026 - 5:08pmApart from The Circuit Breaker Black Archives due this month everything seems silent at the moment nothing mentioned of any new releases in U.K., and I would have thought that they might have been a announcement for the next collection set. Unless they have these U.S.A. releases planned for U.K. In the coming months. But nothing else seems to have been announced maybe after the Black Archives is released we will have to wait and see whats next.

August 5th, 2026 - 10:27pmNo Season 25 hasn’t had a Standard Release yet October 2024 was when the Limited Edition was Released as Fred has mentioned I presume the Season 25 Standard Edition will probably be next after The Black Archives. I mean it’s early days yet they might have something up their sleeves. And it’s been over a year since we had any Animations of missing stories.

A new deal had to be finalised (which could take months) then it would take roughly another year beyond that to do the next one. I’ve heard enough to know for certain there are more animations on the way. Toby Hadoke has said he’s given animators heights to work with and David Busch has said there are many releases in the pipeline including one that he’s involved in. David’s contributions to bbc in the animation front (shada and macra terror as well as the dads army animations) which kind of makes me feel it’s obviously for an animation

Waging a one man campaign to have the labelling changed obviously makes him happy, so I suggest letting him get on with it.

August 6th, 2026 - 9:27amStandard Edition should be around October, so expect to hear soon about this. I think there will be a December release of either The Smugglers (or another animation), or possibly a collection set. I doubt AI will be removed from S13 and S21, or even taken off S16. If the BBC admit it’s an error, then they would have to issue replacement discs, which I cannot see them doing. I doubt they would rework the assets for the SE S13 and S21 either. I hope to be proved wrong.

August 6th, 2026 - 2:17pm@RobW The BBC were able to release stories like Resurrection of the Daleks and The Caves of Androzani twice via the Revisitations marketing, amongst plenty of other dvds that were re-released as special editions. Not just that but the re-releases involved spending on fresh rescans and digital work on all the episodes.
Also the Blu-ray standards have often corrected previous errors on the Limited sets that just didn’t get addressed via replacement discs for whatever reasons.
With Seasons 13 + 21, they can potentially just release the standards while avoiding the Ai filtered renders, involving none of the costly work of the dvd special editions, and would simply follow the same practices of previous standard blu-rays.
The one reason this could be impossible is if the Restoration Team or the BBC have deleted the non-Ai digitized masters from their own archives, which I would doubt given Paul Vanezis is currently scanning HD surviving material of The Daleks’ Master Plan for a future Season 3 boxset. There’s too much money and time involved for someone to turn around and say “yup Ai it then bin the raw scans”.

These would look great in Collection style. Never got why they did the Tennant book style release for uk but smiths/capaldi and Whittaker only got us release.

August 5th, 2026 - 5:11pmThat set had the benefit of actually fixing the vast majority of the errors with the previous BD releases. There is nothing to indicate that any of the errors from the previous releases from this era have been fixed for these ones.
