This September,BBC Books will publish Doctor Who: The Women Who Lived, a beautifully illustrated collection of inspiring tales ofthe women of Doctor Who. It will be the first official book published to accompany the new series, celebrating Jodie Whittaker’s debut as the Thirteenth Doctor.
Written by Christel Dee, former presenter of Doctor Who: The Fan Show, and Simon Guerrier, the book will featuremore than 75 inspiring talesof remarkable women of the Whoniverse, both real and imagined. From historical figures such as Agatha Christie and Queen Victoria to fan favourites like Bill Potts and River Song, each woman has made a unique contribution to the world of Doctor Who.
Whether they’re facing down Daleks or thwarting a Nestene invasion, these women don’t hang around waiting to be rescued – they roll their sleeves up and get stuck in. Scientists and soldiers, queens and canteen workers, women from outlandish science-fiction and those steeped in real history, they don’t let anything hold them back.
Illustrated throughout with specially-commissionedartwork by a team of female artists – including Gwen Burns, Valentina Mozzo, Sonia Leong, and more – the book also features new companion Yasmin, and an extended entry on the Doctor herself.

Written by Christel Dee, don’t get me wrong, it’s fine but as a person and running the Fan Show no one really likes her. And it’s new series companions…not getting the book

July 20th, 2018 - 8:21pmFunny really. River Song is far and away a poorly created female character, constantly flirting and overly “sexy”. There’s Bill Potts who had constantly keep reminding other characters and the audience of her sexuality. Then there’s Idris, not really a female character at all. Oh, and of course “Missy”, another flirty character who, quite frankly is you count Television bodies, is still an over whelming male character (as is the Doctor). Also, “women are the beating heart of Doctor Who”? I don’t think so. They are some of the beating hearts but what about the Brig? What about Ian? What about Jack? Lets not forget the male characters and those behind the scenes, such as Sydney Newman, RTD or even Tom Baker.

July 20th, 2018 - 8:44pmDid Amy and Rory go around telling everyone, just to hammer home the point, that they were a straight couple every episode? No. Did Captain Jack go around telling everyone about his sexuality? No. It was just part of his character and left at that. I didn’t say females don’t flirt, but River Song and Moffat’s Master were built largely on them being so. A character should not be defined by their sexuality which Bill largely was in many cases.

July 20th, 2018 - 8:09pmHate to point this out but the reason this is called the women who lived is because for women life isn’t equal. Woman have been ignored and sidelined for centuries, unfortunately for most people equality doesn’t mean a thing. It’s all very well saying it should be people and where’s the book about the men who lived, but look at even just the last 55 years of who. How many female writers? How many female directors? There was one female producer in the first 26 years and she was chaparoned for most of her time. And look at the blind hatred for a female doctor – a doctor who people are dismissing and criticising on the strength of one teaser trailer and a short season trailer! Every girl i know has suffered sexism from school through to work in many forms. So yes, this is called the women who lived. And quite right too.

I don’t see a The Men who Lived, nor do I want one.
I would like a book that represents all of humanity not just 50% of it.
A “The People Who Lived” would be a better choice.
Then again this is my silly opinion and you don’t have to agree with me.

Honestly, I don’t see any The Men Who Lived, I am Don’t want a Me who Lived. I would like a book about the People Who Lived. I Hope for a book that celebrates all of humanity and not only one 50% of it.
I have no problem with the doctor being female. It’s just there is such a big fuss over it. This is just my silly old opinion and you don’t have to agree with me.

As in, it’s short stories that aren’t necessarily following each Doctor 1-12, rather it’s just a group of short stories featuring female characters? But it’s got Missy, so I’m down.
